2. Detention

I wouldn't say I wasn't nervous when I knocked on the Principal's office door and asked for permission. Although I was used to being called to the principal's office once in a while in my previous schools, this was a totally different case. This was my first day in a new school, that too a school so many miles away from my home, and I know it was so much trouble for Dad to get me admission here. "Come in," the Principal, Mr. Morris said in a not-so-pleasant voice. And I felt more nervous. What have I managed to do within the first hour of my first day in this school? I slowly walked in. A girl and a guy were standing there in front of Mr. Morris, facing their back to me. The guy had his arms crossed over his chest. Wait! The same green t-shirt! And Blonde hair! Is he the snow prince? Yes, he is! I confirmed it after I reached near him and looked at his side profile. Who is the girl? His girlfriend? So did he just complain to the principal that I collided with him and ruined his surprise for his girlfriend? What is happening? I frowned at him but then the Principal started speaking to me in a cold voice. "Caroline Ann Turner. New student, right?" "Yes sir," I nodded. "So, Miss Turner, where is the money?" The next second he growled at me. "Money? What money?" I uttered confused and nervous at the harsh look he was giving me. He was looking at me as if I pickpocketed him on my way to the classroom. Oh! Did I do that by any chance? "Miss Turner, stop acting and confess already. Or I'm going to call your parents right now! How dare you do such a thing on the first day itself? You can't continue here one more second. We don't want thieves inside this campus," Mr. Morris sneered. I was more than shocked. "Sir, I can't understand what you are talking about. I didn't steal any money," I tried to voice confidently. I can't even understand what is happening. What am I gonna tell my parents if I get dismissed on the first day itself? "That's it. I'm calling your parents." Mr. Morris said and stood up from his chair but then the pale face uncrossed his hands and started talking. "Sir, wait a minute before you call her parents. I'll ask her," Mr blonde guy said in such a sweet and calm tone, which was entirely opposite from the attitude he showcased in front of me less than half an hour ago. Then he tilted his face and looked at me. "Where is the envelope and pen I gave you? Why didn't you give it to her?" he asked pointing at the girl. "You gave it to me ?" I questioned. "You walked away dropping those..." "What?" he cut me off before I could complete my sentence. "You agreed you'll take the envelope and safely deliver it to Claire. I was ready to take it to her but you insisted you'll deliver it, so that I can reach the meeting of Science club members on time. I didn't know your intention was to steal the money." "What!?" I gasped. Look how efficiently he is lying. This b***h! I turned to the principal. "Sir, he is lying. I thought it was a love letter and he is asking me to take the letter to his girlfriend. I refused to deliver it and he just walked away leaving the things on the floor." "I told you clearly that it was the prize money and gift for the second prize winner in the Maths riddle competition," the b***h said calmly. "You! Why are you lying!?" I sneered at him before turning to Mr. Morris. "Sir, this boy is lying. I honestly didn't know there was money inside it. Please believe me." "I know who is lying," Mr. Morris growled. "Mr. Carter has never done such a thing. So you don't need to try to convince me that he is lying. Now, say where is the money and the gift prize." I was awestruck. Also, I realized he was the new villain in the freshly started chapter of my story. And he is a villain with standards and is definitely gonna be a trouble. Look how much trust the principal has in him. It's better I don't try to contradict him right now. Cause It's clear I won't be able to convince my innocence to the principal. So, I quickly fished the cover and the pen out of my pocket. The principal yanked it from my hands, angrily. "Sir, I wasn't planning to steal or anything. I just thought it was a love letter. Because he even had a red rose poking out of his bag. And I didn't hear him properly when he spoke to me. He was talking fast and was in a hurry, probably to go to the meeting. And I didn't know where to take this. I was actually thinking to find him during the break. I'm really sorry." Mr. Morris furrowed his eyebrows and looked at the Malfoy of my story who was gawking at me, looking kinda impressed. He quickly wiped away the stupid smirk from his pale face and uncrossed his hands. "Yeah, I had a rose with me. I received it from someone this morning." Mr. Morris didn't say anything and went on checking the money inside the envelope. He left an annoyed sigh once he found there wasn't any money missing. The jerk beside me then cleared his throat, again crossing his hands. "I think there was a chocolate along with it." Oh, b***h! "Sorry, I'll pay its cash," I said. "You ate it ?" The bastard chuckled and raised an eyebrow. I didn't say anything as I figured it was best for me to keep my mouth shut. The principal again sighed. "Anyway, I need to talk to your parent because I don't believe you. This is your first day and if you did such a thing on your first day, I don't know what all things you are gonna do next," he said and bent down to look at his computer. Oh no! I can't let this happen. Currently, my guardian is my uncle and I can't let the principal call him on my first day itself. He'll be so disappointed in me. Moreover, my parents will be so disappointed. "Sir, please don't. I promise I won't do something like this again. I'm really sorry. Give me any punishment. Please just don't call my parents." Mr. Morris just ignored me and started tapping on the keyboard. But then the jerk spoke. "Mr Morris, I request you to forgive her this time. Maybe she didn't hear me properly. I was indeed in a hurry. There's fault on my part too. It was my responsibility to take the prize to Claire Wilson. I shouldn't have asked her to deliver it. I'm sorry. I didn't know she was a new student. " "Oh you needn't apologize for her mistake," Mr. Morris said affectionately. "So what do you think I should do about this ?" "Sir, I think you shouldn't call her parents on the first day itself. Please just give her a smaller punishment," he replied politely. "Miss Wilson, what do you think about this?" he asked the girl who was staying quiet the whole time. "I think he is right," she replied timidly whilst looking at the guy. "Okay," Mr. Morris nodded before looking at me. "Miss Turner, I'm letting it slide for once since Mr. Carter requested me. But it won't happen again. If I happen to hear a complaint about you again, you'll be dismissed. Understood?" "Yes sir," I nodded. "However you will be having one-hour detention for one week starting today," he said. I thought for a moment about arguing but then I nodded. "Come here evening and I'll give you a list of topics to write about during your detention." "Okay sir," I nodded. "You may leave now," Mr. Morris sighed. I nodded and walked out of the office, not before shooting a glare at the bastard who was standing beside me. I decided he is currently the person I hate the most in the world. The bell rang soon after I got out of the office. So I walked towards the Maths class angrily, cursing the Carter guy in my head. I got detention on the first day at this school without doing anything. Just because of him! Ahh! I hate him so much. Why did he do this to me? What an arrogant jerk! But why does Mr. Morris like him so much? He seems to be an evil b***h who pretends to be really good and kind in front of teachers. He doesn’t really know whom he messed up with! He will surely pay for this! I was still very angry when I reached the maths class. I saw Ty sitting at a desk in the third row. He had reserved the seat near him. I walked in and again a few people looked at me in confusion. I didn't bother to smile or explain I'm the new student. I just walked towards Ty and slumped down on the chair next to him. "Carrie, Is everything alright?" Ty asked me. So, he already understood there was something wrong with me. He always does. I don't know whether I should tell him about this or not. He won't be very happy heaeing it. He is just gonna scold me. But still, I need to tell him. "I got one-week detention starting from today," I blurted out. "You got what?" Ty asked in bewilderment, his mouth wide open. "DETENTION! Are you deaf?" I scoffed gaining attention from a few people sitting around. The boy who was sitting behind me tapped on my shoulder. I turned around annoyed to meet with attractive blue eyes that looked somewhat familiar. I couldn’t help but freeze for a second and admire those beautiful ocean blue eyes which I am very sure I've seen somewhere before. Yet I couldn't remember where. "What's the problem? Why are you yelling at him?" the owner of blue eyes asked in a cold tone. He was now staring at me with scrunched-up eyebrows. "Aaron, you don't need to interfere in this. What if she yells at me? You don't need to f*****g care. And why are you sitting here? Go sit somewhere else!" Ty spat at him. Oh wait, what's happening? Ty just cursed! Why is he so angry? "Dude, what's your problem in me sitting here? I like to sit here, so I sit here. And who are you to tell me to change my seat?" The Aaron guy asked. Oh wait a minute! Is he that Aaron? Yes! It's his eyes itself I've seen before! "Ty, is he.." Before I could finish my sentence Ty cut me off, grabbing my hands and standing up from his chair. "Come, let's go sit somewhere else," then he practically started dragging me towards an empty desk in the back. "Wait, Is he your childhood sweetheart, the little bunny?" "Shut up! He isn't my anything," Ty huffed and rolled his eyes before slumping down on a chair, pulling me down to the seat next to him. "You didn't tell me the bunny boy was here. I thought he was in some other school," I said, glancing at the blue eyed boy, our childhood companion who was still staring at us. "He was. He joined here last year after he got dismissed from his previous school for entering into some fight. I didn't tell you cause he doesn't concern me anymore. That's all you need to know. And also, I don't talk to him, I hate him. Now stop looking at him and explain me how you got detention on the first day itself? And for one week? What did you do?" I let out a sigh, once again reminded by my brother about what situation I was currently in. I had forgotten it for a second after meeting Aaron again after so many years. I now turned my gaze from Aaron and gave Ty a sad look, "Ty, please it's not my fault." "Okay, tell me what happened," he said somewhat calmly, giving me an understanding nod. I quickly started explaining to him the whole thing and he too was angry once I finished. "Carrie, why couldn't you tell the truth to the principal?" he asked me. "I tried but he had endless trust in that bastard. Ty, please don't tell this to your or my parents." "Okay, I won't," he nodded. "But who is that guy? Is he a senior? How does he look?" I was about to explain his appearance but then the teacher walked in. I didn't want to get one more detention or punishment. So I quickly stood up and greeted the teacher. Ty remained silent the whole hour as he was carefully doing the problems Mr. Jacob had written down on the board. I on the other hand was watching Aaron who was occasionally turning around and looking at us. I frowned at him once and he did the same. I bet he still hasn't recognised me. I changed a lot from how I looked in 4th grade. He too changed a lot. Who thought he would become something like a fashion model? I wonder where all his chubby cheeks went. Oh, wait, I haven't really introduced Aaron. Yeah, so he is Aaron Morris..., Uh- no that's not his last name, that's the principal's name. Okay, I forgot his last name. Let's just say he is Ty's childhood bestfriend and his bunny boy. But sadly, Ty now hates him or atleast he claims so, although I don't fully believe it. The thing is, Aaron stopped being friends with him in middle school when he got selection on the soccer team and got new friends. Ty was a meek kid and a little bit of a nerd in the past. After Aaron stopped talking to him, he was completely lonely and people started bullying him. And Aaron simply let it happen. He didn't do anything even when his own friends started bullying Ty. He even stood with them and watched sometimes. At last, Ty changed schools in 7th grade. And the worst thing is, Ty had a huge crush on Aaron. Yes, Ty like boys. And I think Aaron knew it and that's the actual reason why he started distancing from Ty. Now you might be wondering how I know Aaron. Aaron was Ty's neighbour. He and his family used to live in the huge house nearby Ty's which had a tree house in the backyard. During summer vacations, I would come here and the three of us used to play in his tree house. His family sold the house and bought another house in the city when we were in 4th grade. I've never seen Aaron after that. The rest is what I've heard from Ty and his Mom. But I honestly didn't know Aaron was here in Harbinger. And I too don't like him. Whatever his reason is, he shouldn't have left Ty to be bullied and hurt his feelings like that. Afterall they were bestfriends since diapers. Ty had loved him so much. I believed he too genuinely loved Ty. I don't know how he could change like that. After the maths period, I had Geography. Coincidentally I shared the class with Aaron. He was sitting in the back when I reached there. I too walked to the back and occupied a single desk on the other side, near the window. After a moment, I felt a tap on my shoulder and I turned to find Aaron now sitting on the desk beside me. "You joined school today?" he asked. "Yeah.." I nodded. Although I had once taken a decision not to talk to him again, I couldn't now help but stare at his face and think about the young Aaron. "How do you know Ty? Are you friends?" he demanded to know. "Yeah, best friends," I replied. "Best friends?" he scrunched his eyebrows. "And also sister." "Wait!" His mouth suddenly dropped open and eyes widened in surprise. "Are you Ann!?" The next moment he squeled, jumping up from his chair. "Oh my God! You are her! You are Carrie, right?" He laughed looking at me, a pair of cute dimples soon made their appearance on his cheeks. And I found he still have those bunny teeth. He was looking more and more like his younger self as he laughed, the boy who gave me wild flowers and said 'I love you' to me first. Everyone was now looking at us. "Damn! Girl, I couldn't recognise you. How come you became so thin? You were fat!" "Stop it! I know what you did to Ty," I muttered with a blank face. His face instantly dropped and mouth closed shut. "I'm not happy to meet you again, Aaron," I scowled with my hands crossed across my chest. He bit on the side of his lip and sat back in the seat, turning his face to me. "I'm sorry." "Why are you telling me sorry? Have you ever apologised to Ty?" I asked. "I have," he mumbled. "He never accepted my apology. He now hates me. And I guess you too hate me." "Yeah." I snapped. "I know I was a jerk back then." "You were." "But I'm really sorry. I didn't know what to do." "What do you mean you didn't know what to do?" I asked. He looked down in lack of an answer. And when he finally looked up and opened his mouth to say something, we were interrupted by two girls fighting for the chair beside him. "C'mon get up! This is my seat," one of the girls scoffed. "Shut Up! I sat here first. And how is this your seat? You can't make the seat beside Aaron your seat every day. Now, get lost!" the other girl who was currently sitting on the seat said. I see, so he is the heartthrob of a lot of girls here. "God! Can you both stop bickering now?" Aaron asked before the other girl opened her mouth to say something. “Gianna, please go sit somewhere else." "Aaron, it’s not that I want to...," the girl sighed pausing her speech halfway. Then she walked away after shooting a glare at the other girl. He turned back to me and was about to speak again but then the teacher, Mr Williams arrived. He started teaching about the longitudes and I listened, although Geography isn’t one of my favorite subjects. "Hey Ann.." Aaron called while Mr. Williams was writing something on the board. I tilted my head to him. “Can I call you Ann?” he asked. "or shall I call you Carrie?" I didn't say anything. He used to call me both 'Carrie' and 'Ann' during childhood, although his favourite was 'Ann'. “So, er..you got a detention?” I groaned inwardly at the mention of detention but didn't give him a response. "I too have detention today." Oh? That means I'll have to see him again at detention. "By the way, how you managed to get a detention on the first day itself?" I kept quiet. So he finally shut his mouth. But that was only to open it after a few minutes. "Hey, so you now stay at Ty's home?" "Can you just shut up? I don't like to talk to you." I scoffed turning to him only to find the girl sitting beside him glaring at me. "Where was your home actually? I forgot." He then said. "Perellard," I realised I replied him only after I uttered the word. For a moment I was distracted shooting a glare back at the girl beside him. "Oh yeah,” he muttered. “Why you transferred to here now?" "Mr. Miller!" Mr. Williams suddenly shouted, almost making me flinch. "What great wisdom are you sharing with the new student over there?" "Sorry," Aaron mumbled, sitting up straight. Mr. Williams sighed and continued his teaching. He didn't try to talk to me after that. He dedicated his whole attention to the class. He might be a rival to Ty, judging by the way he listens carefully to the class and nods to the teacher. But I was surprised to find him sleeping peacefully after five minutes, resting his head on the desk. Sorry, my bad. He just said he has a detention today. I should have judged better. The girl beside Aaron had her whole attention on him now. She was staring at his side profile with a light smile on her face. I scowled at her and averted my attention back to Mr. Williams. After an hour, the bell rang indicating lunch break. Mr. Williams walked out of the class after leaving a sigh, looking at the still sleeping Aaron. The girl near him gently tapped on his arm and woke him up. "Class ended?" he asked her, sitting up and rubbing his eyes. It was kind of cute. "Yeah, it's lunch break," she smiled brightly. "Aaron, can I join you guys for lunch?" "Yeah..okay." he nodded whilst yawning. Then he stood up and looked at me. "You are having lunch with Ty, right?" This time he didn't wait for a reply from me. "Bye then, see you at detention. Have a nice meal with the basketballers." With that, he walked away with the girl.
