‘Hey Girlfriendddddddddd’ came Jay’s voice from the end of the hall as I shoved my books into my locker roughly.
It was now Monday morning and I had spent the entire weekend agonising over what had happened between Wade and I, or to be more accurate, what didn’t happen. I am so confused, the bad boy was . . . . fun, what the hell?
‘Hey boyfriend’ I sighed back, turning to smile at him stiffly.
Jay’s face fell as he studied me, ‘what’s up buttercup?’ he asked, crossing his arms over his chest, and narrowing his eyes at me.
‘Nothing’ I replied immediately, I mean, what can I say? The school bad boy tickled me on Friday night and then it got awkward? Umm, that would be a no!
‘Uh huh, going to play hard to get are we baby girl? Don’t make me tickle you’ Jay huffed, his hands reaching toward me.
‘NO!’ I shouted, much louder and more panicked than I had meant it to be, ‘I uh . . ‘ holding out my hands instinctively, I turned around and sprinted away from my confused best friend, ignoring him as he called out to me.
Rushing down the hallways I collided with the door to the girl’s bathroom, shoving it open and stumbling into one of the stalls, locking the door behind me.
Taking deep breaths, I calmed myself down, what is going one with me? I need to sort whatever this is out!
The bathroom door swung open, and I heard laughter as three girls walked in, the tap running for a few seconds as their voices drifted through the door to me.
‘O.M.G girls did you see Wade today? Leather looks good on him’ came one voice that I realised belonged to one of the populars, Valerie, or Vee as her friends referred to her.
‘Didn’t you reach third with him last semester?’ came the excited voice of one of their groupies, the girls who want to be a popular but aren’t quite rich enough.
‘Third? Please, let’s just say, I saw what he was packing, and I was not disappointed’ Vee replied loftily.
Giggles echoed around the walls as the girls pushed for more information about Wade’s ‘package’. I shuddered, I do not need to know anything about what may or may not be in Wade Simmons’ jeans!
Finally the group of girls exited the washroom and I slowly opened the door, walking to the basin to wash my hands before exiting the room and heading into the now deserted hallway.
Glancing down toward my first lesson, I sighed as I turned my feet the opposite way and walked toward the double doors that led outside. I was already late, was an absent really worse than a tardy?
Heading out into the cool autumn breeze, I head toward the bleachers and climb up to the middle of the stands, slumping down and pulling out my library book.
Flicking through to my bookmark I am soon lost in a world of a strong kick ass she wolf triplet taking no crap from anyone.
I’m so lost in the story that I don’t even hear someone approach until a deep voice says, ‘playing hooky? That is not really your style Reynolds.’
Letting out a small scream of fright, I crash the book to my chest as I flick my gaze to the bad boy who is looming over me, his signature smirk on his face.
‘How would you even know my style?’ I replied quietly, ‘maybe I often skip class.’
Wade snorted as he sat down next to me, ‘no princess, I skip lessons, you take notes even when it’s not necessary and get straight A’s’ he retorted, leaning back against the seat and pulling out a cigarette packet.
Wrinkling my nose, I glare at the small oblong box, ‘those are really bad for you’ I mutter.
Wade looked from me to the pack, ‘and?’ he asked with a shrug.
‘and they will kill you!’ I reply, ‘don’t you even look at the photo’s on the side of the box? Your lungs look like those!’
He flicked the packet around to look at the photo, raising an eyebrow at the graphic photo of blackened lungs, ‘never noticed it’ he replied as he turned it back and flipped open the lid, pulling a stick out and placing it between his lips.
Inching away, I scowl, ‘at least sit away from me, I don’t want your second hand smoke’ I grumble, shivering slightly as those cold grey eyes flicker to me again.
Sighing deeply, Wade removed the cigarette and places it back in the box, stowing them back in his jacket as he huffs. ‘Happy now?’ he asked in annoyance, as I nodded immediately.
Peeking down at my hands, he points at the book I’m holding, ‘what are you reading?’ he asked curiously.
Flinching I go to shove it in my bag, ‘nothing!’ I reply quickly, cursing under my breath as he easily plucks it from my grasp.
Flipping it over, he raises an eyebrow at me, ‘Dominating the Alpha?’ he reads in surprise, ‘sounds a bit . . . kinky, is that what you are into Reynolds? You secretly like to be dominated? Maybe the good girl isn’t so good after all.’
Flushing, I grab the book back and shove it into my bag, ‘if you must know it’s the woman who dominates the man’ I mutter.
Wade’s eyes widen even more, that smirk back on his lips as he leans toward me, ‘really?’ he whispers, ‘you like to take charge do you Reynolds? You surprise me.’
Blushing deeper, I avoid his piercing gaze, ‘it’s one of a series, it’s a werewolf book, it’s not something I’m in too, it’s just a good book’ I defend myself.
‘Whatever you say princess, but I think there is maybe more to you than the goody two shoes personality you put out there’ Wade whispered in my ear making me tremble.
Looking up, I watch as a group of boys run out onto the pitch in front of us, it looks like second period has started and the football team have a practice booked.
My breath hitches as I spot that familiar blonde hair of Archer Jones, my eyes trace over his muscular body as he stretches out whilst talking to his friends.
‘What are you staring at princess?’ came the bad boy’s voice beside me, dammit, I had forgotten he was there! That tends to happen when perfection enters my vision.
‘Nothing’ I mutter as I drag my eyes away and start to do up my bag preparing to leave.
Peeking to my right I let out a small squeak as I realise that Wade is studying me. ‘You were staring at the school heart throb’ he said, his eyes hardening slightly as his eyes flicked to Archer.
‘No I wasn’t!’ I defended myself, man I sound fake even to me!
‘You were literally undressing him with your eyes’ Wade grinned, ‘I think you actually drooled on your uniform’ he added, his gaze flickering down to my leg.
I couldn’t help it, my own eyes gravitated to my leg that was completely dry as I self consciously wiped my thumb across my bottom lip, scowling as Wade laughed loudly.
‘Jerk’ I grumbled under my breath, scrambling to my feet and trying to step over him as he stretches out his legs and hooks them over the chair in front of us blocking my way. ‘Can you move?’ I gritted out, ‘I have a class to get too.’
Wade laughed louder drawing the attention of a few of the footballers below us, ‘please Reynolds, you have already missed half of second period, why bother going now?’ he asked.
‘Because I care about my education?’ I offered tartly, trying to decide if I can clamber over the seats in front of us without embarrassing myself.
Wade chuckled, ‘OK princess, you keep telling yourself that’ he retorted.
Glaring at him I plonked my self back down into my seat, ‘what is that supposed to mean?’ I demanded.
‘That you are not as dedicated as you like people to believe’ Wade replied with a shrug as he glared down at the jocks who were lining up to throw passes.
‘Excuse me’ I scoffed, ‘I am very dedicated! I have plans for my future I’ll have you know, some of us didn’t get a rich daddy to buy our way through school.’ I snapped my mouth shut as soon as the words left my mouth, my face paling as those scary grey orbs swung toward me. I’ve pissed him off, oh God, or any deity that can hear me, please save me!
‘You think I get a free ride because I have a rich daddy?’ the bad boy whispered, his face taught as he glared at me.
‘I . . I . .’ I stuttered in panic, not even sure what I was going to say, but feeling that I needed to try and diffuse this situation I had created in a moment of complete madness when I forgot who was sat across from me.
Standing up, Wade yanked the cigarette packet out of his pocket, pulling out a stick and placing it between his lips as he scowled down at me, ‘you know what, go f**k yourself Reynolds, you don’t know s**t’ he growled before turning his back on me and storming away.
Shaking, I watched him leave, his language and uncontrolled anger terrifying me, I didn’t know what to do. Part of me wanted to chase after him and apologise, the other half terrified of what he would do if I caught up to him when he was that angry.
My phone beeped in my pocket, sighing, I pulled it out to see Jay’s name scrolling my screen.
Unlocking it, I was met with an all caps message, ‘WHERE ARE YOU? WHY ARE YOU NOT IN MATHS? WADE IS MISSING TOO, TEACH IS ASKING ME ABOUT YOU!’
Typing quickly I replied, ‘sorry, bad cramps, I have been outside for most of the morning, tablets are not helping, thinking about going home tbh’
A message flashed up, ‘baby girl, you know that I know you are not due for two weeks, but I’ll tell the dragon lady your lame ass excuse and get you a pass, I want to truth later though, you are acting weird today.’
Standing up, I glance once more at the field, allowing myself a few seconds of watching perfection run the line, his muscles flexing as he reaches for a pass that is thrown his way before heading back into school just intime for the bell for the end of lesson.
