Liam's POV
"Where are you going, Liam," Lana's annoying voice reached my ears and I automatically pulled my spine stiff at the sound of it.
I didn't expect her to just walk into my room, catching me off guard packing for my trip.
Douglas had given in to having a peek at our true mate. We need to see if she is still safe before our transition.
"I'm leaving on a quick trip," I answered, annoyance clearly in my voice, "I'll be back by Monday..." I answered, hoping that it would be enough for her to leave me alone.
"Liam..." she went and stood beside me, "you do know tonight is the last full Moon before your transition. The next will be a blood moon, which falls on your twenty-first birthday..."
"Yes, and your point is?" I asked, irritated as I turned my head and faced the old witch.
She didn't look as young as the day she found me, the darkness had rejected her as his servant, taking her beauty over the years.
Her long red hair had winter streaks in them and her green emerald eyes had become lighter with every passing year. Her smooth completion had made way for soft wrinkles around her eyes and lips.
You could see she was once a beautiful woman, but the years had started to eat at her once pretty face.
I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding and continued with my packing.
"As from tonight the transition will start..." she answers and concern laced into her voice.
I stopped what I was doing for a second, thinking. Was there any way to stop it..?
"How will it influence me... and how do I control it...?" I asked.
That was all I needed to know.
This will be my last chance to see her.
I will not change my plans.
I will not back down.
When my father passed away, his magic automatically moved over to me, his only living child...
My brother and sister were... killed... by my father's true mate. My father had hidden me before she could find me...
I could feel the darkness roam inside me... waiting for it to be released... I had no control over it...
The thing is, the darkness will be locked up inside me until my twenty-first birthday. Just like the wolf gene kicked in on a wolf's seventeenth birthday, the wizard gene will fully kick in as well... the only difference was, that half-breeds like me... carrying the original witch genes will only find their full potential at their twenty-first birthday...
I had received my normal wizard magic with my wolf on my seventeenth, which I knew very well how to use...
I was, as the old scripts would say... talented... with my transition, I would be more... Uhm... brilliant and accomplished...
The only thing I know about the magic that roamed inside me is that its magic powers are incredibly strong... dark... and evil.
It might change me... and I might follow the darkness like a puppy following his master... or I might turn out like my father, fight against it...
My father tried to find a way to break the evil chain and released himself and our family from it...
But he died... having no say about his body or his wolf...
He had even lost his family and his true mate in the process...
I had no idea how the whole ritual worked.
I assume Lana knew.
She has been buzzing around me like a fly the last couple of months, asking questions, dropping by unannounced, and sending trackers after me as soon as I set foot outside of our boundaries.
But... she has been very reluctant to share information with me, which gave me the idea that she had a hidden agenda.
Did she raise me as her son, just to take the dark magic from me for herself and to become young and powerful again, or did she have other plans that she didn't discuss with me..?
Whichever reason she had, I was not just going to sit there and hand it over to her on a silver plate...
As much as I wanted to just get rid of the magic, I still needed it for one little quest...
Revenge...!
"What will happen?" I asked.
"It depends..." she started.
"Don't start with that bullsh*t, answer the damn question, Lana," I growled at her.
My posture changed from annoyed to aggressive and she took a few steps back.
I once jumped her and left her clawed because she p*ssed me off, she knew very well what I was capable of.
"You will get hints of headaches, flashes of the past and future, and spur of moments where magic could overpower you... you might black out and have no memory of it... the problem..." she kept quiet.
"You better tell me what the problem is..?" I warned her.
"Your wolf might go a bit..." she hesitated and I lifted an eyebrow at her and I could feel my eyes turning black as Douglas took over.
"What will happen?" Douglas demanded to know as his aura filled the room.
"I... I..." Lana stuttered.
"Tell me!" Douglas roared. Thanks to soundproof walls, the rest of the building couldn't hear what was going on there.
Most of the members that stayed in the block of flats were from my father's old pack. The whole little city was our packland.
The downside was, that we lived with humans around us... we couldn't just go out and use magic or shift whenever we wanted, we needed to be discreet and careful doing so.
The nice thing about all of this was, while hiding from the outside world... packs had no interest in coming to cities much... so we could roam the city in peace...
Don't misunderstand me, we don't live far from the forest.
We still owned land that belonged to our half-breed pack. The land was secured and hidden under spells. We still use the packland for rituals and gatherings. I grew up there, and that is where Lana found me and raised me.
I just wanted to stay in the city.
"You might lose control... and kill..," she swallowed hard, "whoever is in your way..."
Did she see it happen?
Did my father...?
I shook the thought off.
If he did, it was long ago... there was more to it than what she was saying...
"But..." yeah, I knew there was something.
"But what...?"
"I need you to go live in the packland for the next month until everything is over. It would be safer for everyone... In the meantime, while we wait for the transition stage to pass, you can find a mate there... and start to work on making the next generation..."
I laughed at that... was she seriously considering this?
"You want me to find my mate?"
"No, no, I want you to pick a chosen one, like your father, and his before and... to keep the line going..." she tried to reassure me.
I scrunched my eyes together... confused at her words... did none of my family ever take their true mates?
Were they forced to pick one?
"Explain!" I ordered.
"We will choose the strongest for you..."
"We?"
"The elders..."
"You are not serious?"
"It's tradition. The elders would choose all the best she-half-breeds that would be fit to give you enough strong offspring to ensure the line to survive and you chose one or two and start the process..." there was some worry in Lana's voice. She wasn't very fond of the idea.
"What are you not telling me..." I asked.
"I suggest you choose more than one to mate with because in the next month you might kill more than one mate..."
