From the corner of my eyes, I caught the man watching me with an amused expression.
“You forced me into your bed last night,” I continued swallowing hard. “I didn’t plan for this to happen,”.
“I know,” he said softly “And I’ll make it up to you, I promise. Just tell me what you want and I’ll see to it,”.
“I want nothing,” I said quickly avoiding his piercing gaze “We’re both adults and we’ll forget about last night. Let’s pretend it never happened and go our merry ways. Don’t worry, I can take care of myself,”.
“You can’t be serious,” he scoffed.
He rose from the bed and padded barefoot to the window in his nakedness. He stood a while at the window before leaving the room into what looked like a closet. He returned wearing a robe and disdain in his eyes.
“I’ll take it that you have no idea who I am and I’m willing to forgive you for that because I had so much fun last night but you should be grateful, I allowed you on my bed. So, Cassidy, take back what you just said,”.
I tilted m head in confusion as I stared at him…
“H-how do you know my name? I’m pretty sure I didn’t tell you,”.
“I am Chad West and I know everything. Besides, Cassidy… no one dictates to me how to care for my woman… not even the woman herself,” he smiled.
Chad West! Kept ringing in my brain as I stared at him slack-jawed. Chad West was old money and the heir to the West Empires. The West Empire is a multi-international business that had its strongholds in entire America, Europe, Asia and recently Africa. They recently ventured into the entertainment industry and it skyrocketed the business empire putting them on the top list unrivalled and Chad as the new President of the Empire.
Also, this is the same Chad that Liam has been vying for an appointment for nearly six months now. The Fullers wanted to cement their relationship with the West family since they recently ventured into the entertainment world and they were scared that their business might go under. Aside from that, the West family is like a bulldozer that takes everything out of its way.
People who dared challenged them either disappeared or their businesses went under overnight. They were not just influential but controlled 60% of the wealth distribution and decision-making in America.
My heart was beating wildly with excitement as I stared at him trying to jog my brain with what the magazines described him as recently. ‘A handsome rake who always gets what he wants’. Certainly, Chad wasn’t someone I want to offend.
“I’m sorry,” I smiled brightly at him “I would never suggest that we forget about last night especially since I was the one who barged in here,”.
He narrowed his eyes staring at me sceptically.
“Please, can you point me in the direction of the bathroom? I need to freshen up?” I beamed my number one smile at him hoping it melts the frown on his face.
I’ve been told severally that I had a smile that could melt the coldest of hearts in the universe and that was what I was trying to do.
It worked.
I heard his sharp intake of breath as he relaxed his stance “The bathroom is that way,” he pointed.
“Thank you,” I crooned sweetly.
I left the bed and stooped to pick up my already ruined dress as I walked past him towards the direction of the bathroom with the smile still in place. As soon as I entered the bathroom, my legs wobbled to the ground as I let out my breath which I was holding in.
“This is your only chance to escape, Cassidy. He knows your name because you may have mingled with the Fullers and nothing else. You’re a daughter to a nobody, so it’ll not be easy,” I tried to convince myself.
I placed my ears on the door of the bathroom, listening for movements and waiting for the perfect time to make my move. I heard the shrill ringtone of a phone and then the door opening then nothing else.
Carefully, I opened the door of the bathroom and poked my head outside listening for sound but after a few minutes, I didn’t hear anything. Satisfied, I walked out of the bathroom and tiptoed to the bedroom and still, there was no sign of him.
I scanned the room with my eyes, trying to look for something more suitable than my torn dress. Immediately, my eyes fell on the discarded robe at the foot of the bed. Without thinking I reached for it and slipped it on my body then made a small run for the door.
The corridor was empty when I opened the door; satisfied that no one saw me, I slipped out of the room and made a beeline to the elevator while praying slightly that I don’t bump into Chad or Liam. My prayers were answered when the elevator opened in front of me and I entered. I ignored the surprised look on the faces of the people already in the elevator and got in. I got out on the ground floor without no drama and hit the street immediately. There were a lot of stares as I half-walked and half-ran since I had no money with me.
It took a while but I finally got home.
Home was a small villa passed down from my mother’s side of the family and the only valuable thing I owned. I ignored the surprised looks on the face of the housekeeper and skipped to my room where I took my bath and changed into more comfortable clothes making a mental note to return Chad’s robe to him.
It didn’t take too long for me to fall asleep exhausted from last night’s charade and this morning. I didn’t know how long I slept but long enough for the housekeeper to keep banging on my door until I was awake.
“Rose, this better be good,” I yawned as I let her in.
“Cass, you’ve got to ace yourself, your aunt and your cousin just pulled up and they didn’t look like they’re here for peace,”.
“Like they ever come here for peace,” I hissed.
My aunt Mabel and her daughter Mia were torn to my flesh when my parents died. They were more comfortable and richer than I am but every day, they make my life a living hell.
Aunt Mabel married into a poor family after getting pregnant with my cousin out of wedlock. But then her husband died mysteriously and she had no option but to move in with us. When my dad was still alive, he made sure they were well taken care of and sent my cousin to the best schools.
Eventually, he bought them a house and gave a share from our company to them and of course in those years, Aunt Mabel was an angel and always wore her gratitude on her sleeves until my parents got involved in a car accident.
My dad died immediately and my mom was in a coma for two weeks before she died. After that, Aunt Mabel changed entirely.
I changed into loungewear and started towards the stairs when Aunt Mabel’s voice floated to me…
“Where is that b***h, Rose? Didn’t you tell her we came looking for her last night and she was nowhere to be found?”.
“A wonderful afternoon to you, Aunt Mabel,” I came into her line of vision. “And to you too, dear cousin,” I smirked.
“Where have you been, Cassidy? We were here last night until the early hours of this morning and you were nowhere to be found. Are you fooling around with men behind Liam’s back?”.
“Yes,” I replied without remorse.
