Chapter 11: Day One

Chapter 11 I woke up earlier than I was supposed to since I was excited. Maia came in but I was already awake. Amber and Rose came in with a tray of breakfast as well. They helped me bathe and change my clothes. I can’t help it but smile. I’m going to study! In this society, only the privileged children will receive higher education. Usually the children born with a silver spoon will be taught by the scholars and professional teachers throughout their education. As for the children who were born poor will only receive education from volunteers and it was limited to learning how to read and write a little. Sometimes children will not learn anything at all. Luckily my Mother received a high education and was able to teach me well. The reason why the commoners don’t get equal access to education is because it gives them power. Knowledge will give them the power to speak up for themselves and sadly not all nobles like that. They want the poor to remain poor. Taking their rights for education is like preventing them from rising. That’s why I will use this to educate myself. I will learn more about currency and business so I can establish one for myself. Things that come fast have a high tendency to disappear. I know what it feels to have less, that's why I will make sure not to experience that again. I don’t know what the future holds for me but I can make preparations. If I don’t do anything now I will regret it for sure. “Sir Mon is waiting outside, my lady.” Amber said and I nodded. After dressing up and eating I was guided to the library. I was amazed with how big this place is! It’s like double, no, triple of my room size. I can’t believe that there are so many books in this place. I want to read them all! I’m so happy. I’m sure my mother would feel the same if she’s here with me. I sat down and Sir Mon gave me a paper that contained my schedule. “For the time being, your schedule will have more breaks since the Master does not want you to feel pressured. The schedule will change over time as you adjust here, my lady.” He said and I nodded. I’m glad that I will have more free time. I wonder what I can do during my breaks. Right now my entire next schedule before lunch is meeting my first teacher. I’m excited to meet her! Her name is “Avalon Sinclair.” I read. “That’s right. Countess Avalon Sinclair is known all over the kingdom because she graduated at the top university with the highest marks possible. She was also tasked to teach the royal families for their education. I am sure that she will teach you well, my lady.” He said and I was shocked! Can I be taught by someone that good? I can’t believe this! She is also the one who teaches the Imperial family? How did my father convince her to teach me?! “I... I will do my best.” I gulped. What if she’s strict and reports to my father that I am not good? Will my studies be removed? I can’t fail no matter what! “The Master also mentioned that I would introduce you to your knight. He will be with you all the time to keep you safe.” Sir Mon said. A knight? Do I really need to have a knight beside me? Usually, only those who are born in higher status can acquire a knight. How could this happen? I didn’t know that my father has so much connection in the palace. “I see. When will I meet him?” I asked and he looked at the door. Is he already here? “I will call for him. He came from the Imperial Family of knights so he is a reliable person. Please don’t leave without him by your side.” Sir Mon said and I was surprised by what he said. “He came from the Empire? Why would I be guarded by someone as high as that?” I asked and Sir Mon put his hand on his chin as he was trying to think of an answer too. “I am not sure how I will answer that, my lady. You can ask him later but I heard it was an order from someone in the Empire.” He said and I can’t seem to understand the reason behind it. Someone from the Empire? Knights from the Empire are known for their strength and honor. Who will send someone like that to guard me? I haven’t met anyone from the Empire nor the Imperial family right? Why would I have someone like that to protect me? I don’t know what is happening. I will ask the knight myself to find answers. “I will call him in.” Sir Mon said and I nodded. The door flung open and a man wearing a familiar uniform came in. You can tell by his figure and uniform that he is a knight. His hair is light brown just like his eyes. When our eyes met he bowed and put his hand on his chest. “I greet the lady of Amaranth. I am Philip Carter, the knight assigned for your safety my lady.” He said and I nodded. “It’s nice to meet you, Sir Philip.” I said and he smiled. Oh wait, he looks cute. “I will excuse myself, my lady. I am afraid I have many things that I should attend. If you need anything please call Amber and Rose, my lady.” Sir Mon said and I nodded. “Thank you, Sir Mon.” I replied. Sir Mon left and I continued to wait in the library for my teacher to come. I can’t help it but look at Sir Philip. For some reason, he looks suspicious. I think his uniform is a little familiar. I wonder if I have seen it before. Now that I think of it, it looks like the one Asher wore when he was drenched wet in the cabin! The thought of him passing to my mind made me blush. I wonder if he’s doing well. If I have not mistaken, Sir Philip is wearing the same uniform that Sir Asher is wearing! I wonder if they are acquaintances! He must have known him. I will ask him! “Sir Philip.” I called. “Yes, my lady.” He replied. “May I ask if you know someone named Asher?” I said and his face became pale and quickly looked down. What was that? He looks tense. He looks like someone who is being threatened. I simply asked a question. Why is he acting this way? Does he know Asher?
