Chapter 8 I packed a little baggage as what the Viscount requested. He said that it’s alright to bring only what I need and most of them are my Mother’s things. Some of the dresses I have are already worn many times and so I left the things I no longer need. I want to keep Mother’s things with me even if it’s just a piece of paper. I tried to put it all in a large bag. The carriage arrived early in the morning. We are accompanied by the guards and we are greeted warmly. After the last piece of my things was loaded I glanced at the Cabin for the last time. I will come back to this place once everything settles. From now on, I shall live a new life without you Mother. Please do not worry about me too much and guide me in the future. Until now, the future is uncertain. However, change is constant. I must move on and face the new days forward. I smiled bitterly as the carriage started to move. I cannot forget the last words that my Mom told me “Live your life and smile.” The carriage was a bit fancier than I expected. Now that I have to think about it, I will face my father today. He wanted to fetch me personally but he was suddenly occupied with business matters but he promised to meet me later. I don’t expect him to greet me warmly. After all, we never shared any bonds with each other. “My lady has the eyes of Master Oscar.” The servant named Amy said to me, Judging from her looks she was in her fifties. She was sitting across from me and Maia in the carriage. “I do?” I said and she nodded. My father is a Viscount and he is known for being a great business and extended connections and known as Lord Oscar. “I served the Amaranth family for years now, my lady. Your eyes resemble Master’s.” She said and I looked at my faint reflection in the window. My eyes are bright green and I remember my mother having light brown eyes. If my father and I have the same eyes I wonder if he’ll look at me with care. “I see.” I said. “Is there something that’s bothering you, my lady?” Amy asked. She’s been with the Amaranth family for a long time. If there is someone that I can ask about my Father she is most likely the most trusted one. I looked at her and decided to ask her a few questions, “What is my father like?” I asked and she smiled. Is my father a good person to his servants? “The Master is a very reliable person. He was a little strict but he performs his duty as a viscount very well. He was loved by his people.” She said, “I met your mother.” She said and I looked her way. “You did?” I said and she nodded. “After the incident where the Master needed to choose between his lover and his family, the Master changed. He became the worst person he could be. I am not the best person to tell you this but Master did not choose between the two. He protected you and your Mother in the best possible way that he could while sacrificing his freedom and happiness.” She said and the carriage went silent for a while. I know that, but my Mother suffered a lot too. Countless nights she cried secretly in her room and I could hear her silent sob. Those are the cruel nights where she misses him. I think my parents both lived a cruel life. I don’t really hate my father but I think he could have done better. “I understand you. I am aware of what happened between my parents. As you can see, my Mother is an honest person.” I said and I tried to smile. “She told me everything that I need to know.” “I am glad to hear that my lady. I am sure that the Master will be glad to meet you.” She said and giggled. “He looks tense waiting for this day to arrive. He personally arranged things for you.” “R-Really?” I was surprised when she said that. Will he really be happy to see me? “Of course! You’re a splitting image of your mother. You are as beautiful as Lady Ophelia.” She said and I blushed. “You grew up so beautifully.” “Thank you.” I replied. “Now, do you want to listen to stories on how those two met? They are quite the reckless couple!” she laughed and I nodded.  She’s talking about my Mother and Father! The carriage ride was filled with memories of how my Mother and father met. I was listening and smiling to her stories. Mother was a foreigner to this land and her origin was still a mystery but when she met the Viscount in the capital he immediately fell in love. My mother likes to perform and dance on stage. Father was captivated by her beauty and they started seeing each other after performances. Father, who's a very responsible man, started to neglect his duties just to see her. They are happy not until Father’s family knows about the relationship. The Amaranth family has their name set on high society and their love was not a good idea. They tried to fight for it but it caused too much ruckus. After confirming that Mother is pregnant they decided to make a decision to protect me. Mother chose to live a peaceful life away from the nobles and father supported her decision. He continued to support and exchange letters with mother even after he got his political marriage. The Viscount got married to Duchess Raquel as a family decision. “Don’t worry too much about Lady Raquel. Please try not to meet her as much as you can. She’s not the person to be associated with, my lady.” Amy advised and I nodded. I wonder what kind of person my father is married to. “I understood.” I replied. “By any chance that Lady Raquel harms you my lady, please don’t hesitate to speak for yourself.” She said and I nodded. I expected this much. I can’t be that welcomed to that house. Disapproval is unavoidable. All I need to do is live peacefully and carefully avoid situations that will offend the household. Living a low-key life is not a bad idea as well. “Can I ask a question?” I said and Amy nodded. “Did the Viscount and Lady Raquel not have a child?” I asked and she nodded. “Unfortunately those two did not have a child. Master focused on expanding connections and managing businesses. He was well known for his hard work. I once asked him his reasons for killing himself from the workloads but he never answered why.” She said, “As for Lady Raquel she was indulged with socializations and went to parties. She was treated coldly by the Master and that’s the only thing she could do. She had multiple affairs but the two doesn’t care for each other anymore. After all, it's just a political marriage.” She added. “I didn’t know that.” I commented. I thought my father had an amazing marriage and life without us. It seems that I have assumed many things. I wonder what things I will get to know soon. “Please pay no mind to it. We are arriving soon at the Amaranth residence.” Amy announced and I looked outside the window. We are near.
