CHAPTER SIX“I have news for you, Jack.”
Fleur threw herself down on the soft straw. She was panting a little, her face in the light of a full moon eager and excited.
“What is it?” Jack Reynolds asked turning quickly towards her. “I wondered why you were late.”
“Just as I was coming out, Henri arrived back from the village. There is a chance, a very good chance, that he will be able to buy a boat in a few weeks’ time!”
“A motorboat?”
“Yes, it has a motor. It is a ketch, a large one, which the owner has been using for fishing but finds too expensive to run. Henri says he is talking of selling it and he will not hesitate once he knows he can take his price in gold.”
“I say, Fleur, how marvellous!” Jack sat forward, his hands clasped round his knees.
