I stared at Harper after I heard the mindlink from my dad. She wouldn’t have someone in my pack killed. She wanted to make amends so we could be together and killing a pack member of ours would make that so much harder. “Harper, I have to go,” I announced.
“Why so soon?” Harper asked, placing her hand on my waist. Her touch made me want to stay but I couldn’t defy my dad again. I also needed to know who was killed and be with my pack to mourn.
“Someone… did you…” I took a deep breath. “Same time next Thursday?” I forced a small smile.
I didn’t want to come off as if I was accusing her or her pack of anything. She’d hear about it soon but I don’t want it to be from me. I’ll get all the answers I need when I speak to my parents.
“Okay.” She kissed my cheek.
