Emil's POV
"I won't lose to you!" I said while waiting for the fish to bite the bait. Mickey and I are fishing while Sara, his younger sister, is watching.
The princess excused herself and ran off to prince Vincent and her glowing friend. The West and East King and the queen are having tea. My father is grilling pork.
"Prince Vincent sure is very handsome." I said while looking to the West prince. "Lucky for the princess who'll be marrying him when they grow up." I smiled.
"How can you be so sure that the princess will marry him?" Mickey asked.
"Eh? The two of them look good, and their parents are doting on them two." I said.
Mickey shrugged. "Well… the princess is not bad, either. She'll grow very beautiful." He said. "Just like my sister." he said and grinned.
"Eh? Mickey you're ugly." I said. "So, Sarah's ugly, too!" I laughed.
And the two of us bickered. "Mickey!" my father called him.
"Yes!" he answered and ran towards my father.
"Sara…" I called. "Who's more handsome? Me or your brother?" I asked.
She pouted. "You two are both ugly." She said and frowned.
"Eh?" I said, then put down the rod. "You bad girl…" I said and went to her.
"Waaah!" she said and ran.
"Get back here!" I said and ran after her.
"Waaah!!! No!" she yelled. "No - ! Ah!" she cried when she tripped in her dress.
"Sara!!!" I screamed and tried to catch her but I failed. "No - !" I said, horrified when I saw her drown. "Sara - !!!"
"Sara - !!!" Mickey screamed.
He was about to jump when I stopped him. "No - !" I said. "You'll drown, too - !"
"I have to save my sister!" he yelled.
"Mickey!" my father said. "I'll save her, okay?" he said, then jumped to the river.
…
"Sara - !!!" Mickey said, full of worries.
Sara coughed. "Mickey…" she called.
Mickey hugged her. "It's alright - !" he said.
Flashback end
"After that, Mickey didn't talk nor look at me." I told Oril and gulped down the beer. "He shut me out." I said.
"But the girl told him it's not your fault, so why - ?" Oril asked.
I smiled sadly. "Coz that time, the only family left to him was his sister." I said. Oril didn't react. I laughed. "Come on. It's not like it's not a common story of how you lose a friend – " I said and laughed.
"You're crying." He said.
I pouted. "Is it right to point that out to me at this moment?" I asked and frowned then wiped my tears.
He laughed. "Good thing you didn't hold it against him." He said.
"I won't." I said and smiled. "Coz he's my best friend." I said.
…
"What…" we said when we saw all the knights were at the palace's gate.
"I told you. I need to talk to the princess!" a woman in a hooded cloak yelled.
"I told you – " Sydril said, imitating her tone, yet he's still poker-faced. "You can't. She's busy at the moment and – " he tried to explain.
"But I need to speak to her now!" she cut him off.
Sydril helplessly sighed.
"Hold it." I said.
They all looked at me. "Emil." Sydril said.
I nodded. "What's the matter?" I asked.
"Didn't you hear? She's requesting an audience with the princess… ugh!" Oril cried when I elbowed him in the stomach. "Right. I'm just drunk~" he said and rolled his eyes.
I sighed. "Can you go back for a later time, miss?" I asked. "Her Highness is not available at the moment – " I told her.
She sighed, then took off the hood of her cloak. Our eyes wide when we saw her green eyes and pointed ears.
"A fairy?" Oril asked, remembered Rio.
The woman shook her head. "Close, but we're of the same level." she said. "I'm an elf. And a friend of Vincent's." she said.
"The West prince?!" I said, shocked. I cleared my throat. "Let her pass." I said.
"But, Emil – " Sydril protested, but still poker-faced.
I sighed. "Leave this to me." I said. "Oril, you go." I told him.
"Eh?! But I thought you said to leave this to you – ugh!" he cried when I stepped on his feet.
"Bastard. I'm drunk. And you're not. Got that?" I said. Oril just rolled his eyes. "Good." I said and smiled. "You handle the elf." I told him.
He sighed, shoulder slumped. "Let's go." He said and took the elf inside the castle.
"Emil, you – " Sydril said, looking at me suspiciously.
I grimaced. "I had a bad time dealing with them when my father trained me!" I said.
He blew out air. "Let's go, guys." He told the other knights and dispersed them.
"Whew!" I exclaimed and wiped the sweat off my forehead. "Well, then. Time to patrol back." I said and continued to patrol the kingdom.
Yelena's POV
I heard a knock. "Princess Yelena?" it's Oril.
"Yes?" I answered.
"You have a visitor." He said.
"I'm not notified." I said and flipped a page of my book.
I heard him sigh. "It's uh… a friend of Prince Vincent – " he said.
I dropped my book.
"Princess Yelena?" Oril called.
I sighed. "Let them in." I said.
The door opened. I saw a woman in a cloak. "Greetings, Your Highness." I heard her say.
"It's rude to speak while covered in a cloak." I said.
She chuckled. "It is." She agreed and took off her cloak.
I gasped when I saw her green eyes and pointy ears.
She smiled. "I'm not a fairy, if that's what you think." she said. "I'm an elf."
"Elf…" I muttered. "Do you guard treasures or items?" I asked.
"That would be the goblins' job." she answered.
I sighed and picked up my book. "What business do you have with me?" I asked.
Her face turned serious. "It's Vincent." She answered. I looked at her. "I'd like to ask if you have found Vincent." She said.
I stared at her. "What's your relationship with him?" I asked.
She smiled. "I'm a friend, too, of his." she answered, then her face went serious. "It seems like you still haven't found him." she stated. "May I ask how do you plan to save him?" she asked.
"Slay the evil king – " I answered.
"How?" she asked. I didn't answer. Her eyes narrowed. "You don't have a plan - ?" she said.
"Even if you have the most perfect plan, it will still get ruined by the worst possible cause." I answered. "Am I right?" I asked. She didn't answer. "Anyways, I do have a plan." I said. "I don't like to discuss it with anyone." I told her. "If that's all you're asking, you may now leave – " I said.
"Princess." She called. "Are you going to marry him?" she asked.
"Yes." I answered.
"Do you love her?" she asked again.
"Yes – " I answered.
"Liar." She said. I stared at her. "Your heart…" she said. "Already belongs to someone else." She told me.
