ELI’S POV
I messed up real bad and there is no way that I am going to fix my mess. I am going to marry the person I don’t like because of a simple mistake of one night.
I was to marry Aubrey but I left her on our wedding day. We had been dating for the longest time but, I ended up not marrying her. Right now, her best friend Victoria wants me to marry her instead.
She is good in bed, I can’t complain though. That is the only thing that I got after eloping with her. Of course her filthy rich dad ensured that I had a job and we had a new house in this new City, far away from home.
Victoria is a spoiled rich kid and she gets what she wants including me.
Aubrey was the love of my life. She was pretty, she had a nice heart and she accommodated Victoria yet she was a bad friend. Victoria seduced me a couple of times despite knowing that I was dating her best friend.
I had tried to warn Aubrey to stay away from her but Victoria used her many lies to luring her to believe that I wanted to separate the two of them.
From there, Aubrey trusted her more than me and that is how she went wrong. I kind of blame her for how things turned out but I messed up also.
I messed up big time and that is why I have Victoria controlling me as if I am a baby.
Sometimes, I wish that I married Aubrey. Anyway, all is not lost. When I finally end my things with Victoria, I will go back to her. She loves me so much to the extent that she will allow me back.
I know she can never replace me with someone else. I am the love of her life. She will find me and the two of us will make things work between us.
“Stop looking at me like that, you must marry me today,” I had forgotten all about Vicky till she insisted on what she wanted.
“I don’t want to,” I tried to be honest once again.
“You must, you will make my dad happy. He will even buy you a car. You said that you wished for a BMW, right?” She asked me this and the thought of owning a car got me confused.
“Are you sure he is going to buy me that?” I asked her.
“Yes, all you have to do is to put a ring on my finger and sign the marriage papers. From there, you will get anything that you want,” Victoria come and looped her hands around my neck. She kissed me after telling me this.
I had to agree. I am so sorry Aubrey but this is the car that I have always wanted. Once I have the car, I can break up with her and we will be back to be the way we used to be. I will come back to you.
I felt guilty for leaving Aubrey but at some point, we have to think. No one can drive love, but I can actually drive a car.
“What do you say?” Victoria smiled.
“Okay, let us go then,” I told her and she was so happy.
“I knew that you love me,” She was all over the top as we prepared to leave.
Victoria drove us in her car. I had worn the black suit that I was to wear on my wedding and this is what excited her the most.
She wore a silky peach dress that she was to wear on Aubrey’s wedding day now that she was going to be the best maid.
“You have made me proud today,” She confessed as she drove on.
“Really?”
“Yes,”
“Victoria, stop the car. Let me grab some coffee for the two of us. I am starving,” I requested her when we drove past the Java shop which was on West End Mall, net to the famous five star hotel, Acacia Premier Hotel.
AUBREY’S POV
Java was just a few blocks away from my hotel room. There is something about their coffee that I cannot comprehend. I crave for them all the damn time and that explains why I decided to head there.
I listened to music as I walked along the pavement. I loved living in the city and being in Kisumu is definitely my cup of tea.
I related to every lyrics in the song, “Without me,” Halsey, the artist really spoke for people like me.
Found you when your heart was broke
I filled your cup until it overflowed
Took it so far to keep you close (keep you close)
I was afraid to leave you on your own
I said I'd catch you if you fall
And if they laugh, then f**k 'em all (all)
And then I got you off your knees
Put you right back on your feet
Just so you could take advantage of me
Tell me how's it feel sittin' up there
Feeling so high but too far away to hold me
You know I'm the one who put you up there
Name in the sky
Does it ever get lonely?
Thinking you could live without me
Thinking you could live without me
Baby, I'm the one who put you up there
I don't know why (yeah, I don't know why)
Thinking you could live without me
Live without me
Baby, I'm the one who put you up there
I don't know why (I don't know why, yeah yeah)
A lot of people were not at the place. After a few minutes of waiting in the line, I was served with my favorite.
My mind was far away. I was listening to another song by Halsey, “Graveyard,” and I was so deeply rooted to it thus I didn’t concentrate on what was going on around me.
It was until I bumped into someone spilling all my coffee on him that I got to my senses.
“I am so sorry,” I mumbled as I quickly removed my earphones and looked up to the man whose white shirt was stained in coffee.
“It is okay,” The guy looked at me and my heart skipped a mighty beat.
“Eli?” My whole body was numb. I wanted to meet with him, but not too soon. I have not even planned each and every step correctly.
“Aubrey, what are you doing here?” He asked me again and I finished spilling the coffee on him. He deserved that and a lot of more bad thinks, after what he did to me.
“It is a surprise, huh! Did you think that you would run away from me?” I asked him in a harsh tone.
