She’s not so bad. Maybe he’ll come to like her. She’s not hateful. And she’s ethereally beautiful. There is that. His men already think he’s a lucky bastard to have her as a mate.
She lied, but she admitted it soon after. Is she or is she not lying about everything else? She’s too mysterious to be a complete liar, though. And those silver wolves are mythical and legendary. A descendant of the goddess, huh?
Alex tried to unravel every information he has gotten since the wolves’ appearance on his birthday. The timing couldn’t be coincidental, but why his thirtieth birthday, though? What significance does it hold? Mates are normally revealed at eighteenth. Is it because she’s different? A descendant of the goddess. He kept coming back to that.
Given the circumstances surrounding her, it doesn’t sound far-fetched, to be honest. Silver wolves. Her own silvery aura. Unknown knowledge only she possesses. This palace and the curse of being trapped here. Of course, he has no way to verify that last one. He sighed.
So far, she seemed real and her words reliable. As for their mishaps… he sighed again. He would admit his part on that. He was wrong for showing her his disbelief. He could have been more discreet about his doubts, without openly displaying it to her. At the moment, he still couldn’t bring himself to fully believer her. He should’ve been careful around her. She was clearly hurt by his words and actions. What should he do now? Should they just start over? He felt as if they’re just even. He was wrong and she also did something wrong. They should just forgive each other and start again.
In the afternoon, his men are busy preparing for their departure the next day. He took them to the library and asked them to take a few books home. He asked Carl to get Luna’s permission and she allowed them to do so. Still, she wouldn’t see him. She didn’t join them for meals and his men could tell they must have quarreled.
“You made the pretty girl angry? Come on, you can tell us. Some of us here have experience, we can give you some advice.” Nathan, the oldest in the group, teased him.
Alex simply rolled his eyes. He’s not one to tell others about his personal issues and problems. He tends to resolve them himself and if he ever needs help, he mainly goes to his father for advice. If it’s anything related to the pack, he would gladly discuss it with anyone who may have something to say, from the elders to every fighter.
The others chuckled at his reaction. They began to discuss their thoughts about Luna and most of them are positive. In a way, their opinion of her didn’t make him feel embarrassed or awkward. Overall, they all like her. He was relieved and glad. It’s good that their perception of her is similar to his.
Their discussion included the wolves. They’re all in awe of their existence and the unrealistic glow that they have.
“It’s called moonglow, isn’t it?” Carl wanted confirmation.
“Yeah, when you look closely, it’s really similar to moonglow.” Ian agreed, as the others nodded.
“They’re gifts from the goddess. We should’ve expected as much.”
“And they’re as old as royalties existed. If only they can shift and have human forms, they could tell us everything they know.”
“Except they can’t. They’re simply silver wolves.”
“I wonder if they’re skilled at fighting?” Carl raised another curious question.
“I bet they are.”
“They must be.” This seems to be the consensus about the matter.
“I wanted to see. Would they agree to spar with us?”
Someone grunted at this thought.
“Ask them when we get back to Snow Mountain.”
“Oh, I will. Just you wait.”
“They can be intimidating, but they’re surely approachable, no?”
Carl turned to Alex again, “Do you know all their names?”
His lip twitched, “No. I only know Akira and Killian.”
Maybe he should show some interest and ask her what the rest are called.
He grabbed a new plate and filled it with food. “I’ll go and see Luna.”
“Go ahead. You shouldn’t keep a lady angry.” Jeremy teased and the rest followed.
“You must coax her. No matter what it was about, the fault is yours. Even if it’s her fault, it’s still yours.” Victor added and most of the mated males voiced out their agreement. Alex could only roll his eyes at them and sigh in exasperation.
He left the dining hall a couple of minutes later, with Akira on his heel. They needed to talk. No matter what, he would stay at her door until she opens it to see him.
He cleared his throat as they neared her room. He knocked twice before calling, “Luna? I brought you food. You must be hungry. Open the door and let’s talk, please?”
The tone he used was gentle and pleading. He hoped she would respond. He waited and after a few minutes, he sighed again.
“Are you still angry? I’m really sorry. I was wrong. What I suggested was inappropriate. I understand now how you felt. I’m sorry I doubted you. It’s just . . . I was just being cautious. Can we please talk? Can you come out?” Alex recalled Victor’s words and realized he’s actually doing it.
“Luna?” He tried turning the knob and learned it was locked. That assured him that she’s inside the room. Did she hear him? Is she already asleep?
“Your food’s getting cold. You haven’t eaten anything the whole day. You should eat something. You’ll need energy for tomorrow.”
He’s beginning to wonder if he should sit down. Akira already did.
“I’ll just wait here for you. I’m really sorry.” Even he could hear the sincerity in those words, as he actually means them.
Luna was just sitting on her bed, listening to his words. She’s glad to have his apology, but she’s still feeling hurt. It was the first time she’d felt this way so she’s having difficulty keeping her emotions in check. She feels as if she would cry again the moment she sees him, so she decided to stay in her room all day.
Now, she also feels bothered. After a few minutes of silence, she wondered if he’s still outside waiting for her. He can’t be, right? He must have gone back to his men, right? She groaned as her stomach rumbled. She’s really hungry. She already ate the bread she kept in her room for breakfast. She’s thirsty, too. She licked her lips and swallowed hard. She waited another half hour. Maybe Alex and his men would have vacated the kitchen and the dining hall at this time. Maybe they’ve gone back to bed already. She hesitated for a moment before moving off the bed. Luna took a deep breath before slowly approaching the door.
