Twist, loop, twirl, dip.
I laughed as Nathaniel got paired with Left Feet Lola, she stepped on his feet twice and I tried to avoid a laugh but focused on Rufus who was anxious for his turn with me.
Twist, and spin, next.
Taking Rufus's hand, I smiled and felt a small blush, "You're a bit too old now for these dances Rue, don't you think?" I asked while he stared at me with a laugh and a slow dance.
The mans seventy, but has a heavy admiration and a perversion for dancing with young 'pretty' girls.
I glanced to the thrones, noting all Seven Kings, seated in their chairs, beside them, the smaller thrones, they sat between each King, and in them sat the Queens.
There were only two empty spots, my stomach turned at the thought of being either of those King's wives.
I feel all the sorrow and remorse for the two woman unlucky enough to be with them.
"You wore the new dress." Rufus stayed as he eyed the dark green gown.
I gave a small nod, "Your wife is an amazing seamstress." I said c*****g an eyebrow. He gave a scoff and looked to me shaking his head.
Men.
I was spun and wounded up in the arms of Nathaniel, he smiled and looked down at me twirling me twice, "You're like a breath of fresh air." He said with a light joking tone.
Rolling my eyes, I tried to hold back my smile, "You as well." I said with a smirk.
He did two small twirls before he spun me outward. I watched him let go of my hand and bow his head.
My hand landed into a gloved hand, I didn't have to look to them to know it was a King, the gloves gave it away (that and Nathaniel's bowing).
I went to curtesy but his hand landed on my waist holding me up to stop form curtsying.
Looking up at the king, I felt my breath hitch, Cronus. He stared down with his dark hair brushed back, although he isn't over thirty, he's already got a few grey strays of hair.
I gave him a confident and steady look as we began dancing, my heart beating rapidly and my worry growing heavily.
Saying no to a King is impossible and highly forbidden, it's a bit of an insult, but if you asked me, I would say it just makes for spoiled rulers.
He twirled me twice, then brought me back to his chest, keeping us a few inches apart before he dipped me slowly and brought me back up.
We spun around before he looked to my lips, "Did you enjoy it?" He asked quietly, it felt a bit weird hearing him speak out loud, and to me. Usually the only time I ever heard a king speak was when they were ordering a death sentence or announcing something. Always short and simple words, never full phrases.
Never a question, especially not toward me.
I gave a small nod, "The dance is beyond my gratitude." I responded while he gave a small almost smile, then he furrowed his eyebrows, "I meant the lemon." He said c*****g an eyebrow.
Breaking into a smile, I felt my face blush, "I haven't tried it yet." I said bashfully and wishing his dance would end so I could go back to Nathaniel.
King Cronus spun me once, "Why's that? Waiting for something special?" He asked catching me off guard.
He keeps talking to me, I mean I've heard that the Kings often dance with the female guests to sort of create a bond with their people, but I guess I never imagined it'd be me.
I shook my head, "I'm not sure your Majesty, I suppose I'll make a pie of it." I said suggestively while he held a soft smile and nodded.
King Cronus danced with me for the rest of the song in silence and I was placed back into Nathaniel's arms.
The King went back to his throne, giving his wife Zara a kiss on her hand.
My chest grew fluttering like butterflies before I focused on Nathaniel, "Did I look good out there? Not too nervous?" I asked him while he smiled, "You looked more graceful and elegant than the Queen Zara herself." He said smiling and pulling me to his chest as we danced a bit more.
I felt my smile grow and I laughed with him as he continued to tell me about his horrible dances and how his foot would be bruised and swollen from the amount of terrible dancers tonight.
Nathaniel always knew how to make me smile, always knew how to make me feel like the most precious, most special woman to ever walk the earth.
His love was as if I was walking among clouds, so light and mesmerizing.
"Can I admit something? And you have to promise not to ever tell a soul." I said quietly as we walked through the castle garden hand in hand.
He gave a small smile, "Absolutely." He said walking me through the roses, "I've always been afraid of the Kings. I think it's wrong for so many men to have such power." I admitted while feeling terrified that I'd said it.
Nathaniel gave me a weary look before looking around, "Thats treason to talk like that Jane, you know that." He reminded me.
I gave a nod, "But I do, I remember the books, they spoke about a government, a system ran by the people, I think-" he let go of my hand and stood back shaking his head with wide eyes.
Dammit, "Nathan, I just-" he shook his head "No Jane! Stop! Are you trying to get us killed?" He asked furiously.
It's just words!
I scowled, "I'm not saying I'll kill the Kings, I just-" He smacked a hand over my mouth and scowled at me, "Jane, this is not a game! Talking like this, it's enough to have you hung, to have your head on the wall!" He said shaking his head.
Okay, "I'm sorry, I won't talk about it anymore." I said feeling a bit sad at the fact I couldn't even talk to him about my feelings.
He gave me a long stare and then shook his head, "I'll meet you inside. I've had enough of the cold air." He said going back into the castle and leaving me in the garden with my thoughts.
How aggravating.
