(Danielle)
I hate surprises. I hate them with the burning passion of an inferno that I had almost created in the lab room.
Surprises meant staying at grandmother's house and never again hearing from your mother.
Surprises meant dad walking into your house, with a new wife and a replacement daughter.
After the fire in the lab, and earning another detention, I was finally back in my dorm room.
Back of my hand still looked red, but when you were a wolf, healing only took so much time. I didn't need the nurse. It would just go away on its own soon enough.
I closed my eyes with a sigh as I sat down on the bed.
This was an all time low, even for my life. It was as if the moon goddess had only one agenda: Make Danie suffer as much as she could.
This was literally a breaking point.
I pulled my blanket up and suffered in the darkness.

Another day. Another catastrophic day.
My hair was talking back at me as I tried to combat it down. As if I already hadn't enough problems.
I sighed as I looked at the calendar in my desk.
Friday. That was a relief.
I loved weekends, though I would mostly stay inside my dorm, I still loved Saturdays and Sundays. That meant one more day without any shocking disasters. Sundays also meant Daisy.
"Hopefully today wouldn't suck as bad as yesterday?" Rexi said with a snort. I sighed.
Morning classes passed by without any bad news.
Throughout my day, I could see Aaron's perfect face taunting me in one way or the other, though he didn't stop to look at me or curse me, as was his custom. One, I went invisible or two, Aaron became blind.
"Ms. Landon, are you in this class?"
"Yes, sir. I am not invisible, am I?"
Mr. Lu shook his head with a frown. He was a fox-shifter.
When the class was over, I cheered inside. The next class was art, the only period I actually loved in school, there was another person already there. I didn't even know why he was in the art class.
"Danielle. Aaron said what you did yesterday," the i***t said. I shook my head with a frown. Liam Bennett was Aaron's best friend, and would probably become Aaron's beta in the future.
"Shut up."
"You shut up."
We didn't exactly know each other, but he hated me, because... The enemy of your friend is your enemy or some s**t like that. It was a bit twisted, but...
Tall, blonde, cute in an obvious way, but I could never understand why all the good-looking guy were rotten snobbish jerks.
"Is your hand alright?" Millie said as she took her seat next to me.
"It is alright. It is okay. Not a big deal," I said with a frown.
"This was during your detention right? You should be careful or you'd one day burn yourself to ashes."
"Yeah, yeah, sure," I said and was really saved by Ms. Thompson.
This was my favorite class. It was arts and fashion.
"So, the project... start doing it, and I expect an end result of the project next month," Ms. Thompson said and she started doing her own work.
I opened my sketch book and started drawing.
"Wow, that's gorgeous," Millie said as she noticed my new dress design.
Making things for a person was something I loved doing. The first dress I ever made was for my doll and my mom said that I am a natural.
"Thanks Mil," I said.
When the class was over, I hopped towards the cafeteria with Millie unsuccessfully trying to follow me. That's why she should stop wearing those ridiculously high heeled boots. I piled my tray with food and walked to our table and Millie was still lagging behind.
"Hey there buffoons," I said to the two boys sitting in our usual table as I placed my food tray.
"Hello Danie." Jesse said.
"Boy," I said petting at his head.
"I am not your dog," he whined.
"Last time I checked, you are still wagging your tail, little pup." I shrugged as I sat next to Sean. Jesse just grunted, obviously knowing he couldn't win the banter.
Millie sat down next to her brother and gave a quick smile to Sean.
They started to talk--and I was the topic of their conversations. Mostly. what I did in the lab yesterday.
"Goddess, she never learns," Sean said to me and I threw a fry at his nose. He grunted.
"That hurts."
"Ay, don't be a drama queen, Sean," I said with a shrug.
"No goddess, that thing is stronger than a brick," Sean said with a glare. We both laughed, but our laughter soon died when we noticed Millie and Jesse were no longer there in their seat.
His face turned pale as I finally noticed Mad Martha, our lunch lady, standing there with a condemning frown. Oh s**t, death was closer than I imagined. Martha was a human, but every shifter at school feared her. Even the teachers.
"Get set..." Sean left before even saying 'Go.'
I gulped as Martha put her hand on her large rounded hips and glared up at me, looking exactly like an angry bull.
"Hi Marty," I said and she smiled a little. We were on good terms, up until now, I guess.
"Will you come wash the dishes in the evening?" she asked in her rough scratchy voice.
"Yes." I nodded and she waved me off and strutted away.
I stared at her back and slumped on my chair with a sigh.
"Hey babes," Millie sat near me and Jesse joined her a second later.
"I hate you, you three traitors," I said and they laughed and shrugged.
After school, I had my detention with Mrs. Lockhart. She breathed and ate Algebra and ate children like me as side dish.
I sat there, my eyes drooping.
"Ms. Landon, I think you need to stop studying at night." Her voice was ridiculing.
That old bat was sarcastic, really sarcastic. I readjusted my position and wiped my eyes. She frowned and pointed the book.
"Math is my mortal enemy. I want to kill whoever discovered algebra. That bloody bastard should have simply slept, eaten and died like I am going to," I muttered under my breath.
"Ridiculous." I heard another voice and turned to see Aaron just behind me.
So the Alpha b***h is back!!!
"Wow, I celebrated a moment too soon," I said under my breath. "You are still talking."
"Ms. Landon, do you have any important news you want to share with me?" The old bat was really in a role today.
"No, ma'am, but McCarter has something to tell," I said. Aaron grunted and cursed.
Mrs. Lockhart shook her head despondently and placed her fingers on her mouth. "Ssh. Study. I hope you have a trick up your sleeve or you are really going to fail my class."
I knew she hated me.
When the bell rang, I was the first one to leave the class.
I pushed my books inside my locker when I noticed a paper sticking from inside. I picked out and opened it to see that it was a caricature of me, hanging upside down.
"This is sick. Really sick. What the f**k is this? Is this Aaron?"
"It must be," I said. "He is the one who hates me more than anyone, but woud he... stoop so low?" I asked, worrying my lip.
I glared at it before throwing it away with a grunt.
I walked towards Mattie's Secret, grabbing my laptop. I had a paper in English I had to finish and Mattie's Secret was my go to place when I needed energy and inspiration.
They had heavenly coffee and milkshakes to die for. I would rather stay alive though, to drink those shakes, of course.
How I loved Mathew and Marsh for opening that café in my school campus! They were mates, and they were both amazing people.
I sat on my usual table-- yes, I have an usual table, because I don't just come here for coffee and free Wi-Fi-- on the corner and opened my laptop and started typing away.
"Hey Danie, your usual." Logan announced as he placed a steaming cup of cappuccino and a piece of blueberry delight in front of me.
Tall with caramel brown hair that smelled like my favorite cappuccino, he was another reason I was always here.
"Thanks Logan," I said, making sure my voice wasn't a whisper.
He was a fine specimen. Tall, handsome. And he was kind, too.
"Danie, you done with that?" He asked after ten minutes.
"I hate this." I said as I tapped the keyboard with enough force to break it.
"Poor girl," he said, ruffling my hair.
Wtf?
"I am eighteen and a half, Logan. Only three years younger than you."
Semer School of Shifters ended at nineteen. Most of the wolves never chose to go beyond this world. They have everything here. But I wanted more. I needed more.
"Or so you keep telling me." He smirked and then with a wink, left me staring at his back.
When the door bell dinged, I looked up from my laptop to see Mr. Perfect strolling in with his equally perfect girlfriend.
So fake and so perfect for each other.
She threw a disgusted look at me before walking past me.
Samantha Morrison was once my friend. But everything had to change and she changed into a cunning fox.
I think she was one of the reasons why Aaron hated me so much. I knew she could really cook a story and she had her own edited version of the incident that happened, which made Daisy what she was now.
I saw Samantha sat on the table as far away from me as possible, as if she would catch Rabies if she sat nearby. And I would get 'Snob'bies if she sat near me, bah.
"Your grandmother asked me to give this to you." It was Aaron. He slapped the cover in front of me and stood there as if waiting for me to say, what? Thanks?
"Why are you still here?" I looked at him. "Do I need to pay you for being my grandmother's mailman?" I batted my eyes and he glared at me before he walked away.
I opened the note. Grandmother hadn't still grasped the meaning of text messages and emails.
The note read: 'Come home this Saturday. You have a surprise!' and signed, Marlene Landon.
So impersonal.
I slapped the note on the table and Logan came running.
"You okay?"
"I hate surprises," I said helplessly.
I really, really hated surprises.
I mean, my mom said it was a surprise before she walked out.
She never came back.
Surprises continued... exactly three months later, my dad came with a beautiful woman and introduced her to me as my new stepmom.
But the woman insisted I should call her Fiona, "Stepmom sounds too old!" She had a girl my age by her side. "This is Anna Sophia, your step sister."
Anna Sophia didn't even say hi to me. She walked away and slammed the door shut.
You get my drift...
After I finished my essay, I realized it was time for me to go and help Martha. I washed and dried dishes and helped her put them in place.
Then I walked towards 'The Cookie Corner.' That place had world's finest cookies.
"Hey Betsie," I greeted my boss as I walked behind the counter relieving Sarah. Sarah waved to me as she left.
I worked two part time jobs, not because I needed money--my grandmother was really generous when it came to money. They were all stingy only when it came to love and affection-- I just didn't want to be alone, all the time, locked in my dorm room.
When I finished my work at 7, I was more than tired.
"Hey Betsie, I am not coming tomorrow. I am going home," I said to her as I walked out.
I stared at the sky littered with stars and the moon was barely there. The wind was harsh and angry. I quickly veered behind the tree and Rexi lolled her tongue out.
"Goddess, yes."
I shifted and wind ruffled my dark brown fur.
I ran and ran... until everything was blissfully quiet in me.
