THE GUARDIAN WEAPON had been thoroughly soaked in river water for days. If it no longer worked, Ethan didn’t know what he would do, but he finally had a chance to escape and he was going to take it. He grabbed the weapon from the pile of his belongings. His foot was so painful he couldn’t put even the slightest weight on it, so he hopped to a corner of his chamber. He would use the weapon to cut a hole wide enough for him to get out. He hadn’t forgotten the small fact that he couldn’t swim, but he would just have to try his best to get to the river bank somehow.
