The Life I Chose

I was adopted!

Darlene, her father and her mother waited at the hospital for the results after they conducted several tests on her. “Miss Darlene Smith?” The doctor said as she came where the three of them where sitting

“Yes, doctor that’s me!” Darlene replied standing up together with her parents

“Please come with me!” the doctor said as he led them to his office

“Miss Smith am going to ask you a few which are quite personal, would you like your parents to be part of our conversation?” the doctor asked her and she nodded her head looking at both her parents

“Well let’s start” He said as he leaned forward looking at the reports on the table

“Can you tell me when last you had your monthly periods?” he asked her worried that she might be pregnant

“I don’t remember I just noticed that for four months I didn’t have them” Darlene replied

“When was the last time you slept with a man?” The doctor asked

“I have never slept with a man before” Darlene answered swallowing hard looking at the doctor

“Are you sure about that?” The doctor asked

“Yes, I am certain! But why do you ask?” She replied

“That’s because in this report it shows no other problems except that…” The doctor said

“What?  Whats wrong with me? “Darlene asked very worried

“That you are pregnant!” The doctor said to Darlene and the three of them their eyes widened.

“What? What do you mean am pregnant?” Darlene said looking at the doctor as tears filled her eyes

“Yes, you are pregnant! I know this has come as news but it’s always hard to accept it” The doctor explained and everyone was just quiet

“I can find someone you can talk to about this maybe you might be able to open up to about whatever happened” the doctor said and everyone just stood up,

James shook the hands of the doctor and walked out of the room after getting the therapists details.

Tracy just walked to the car without saying anything to Darlene when she got to the car she got in and looked out of the window

James joined them minutes later and he buckled up, they all quietly drove to their house without talking to each other.

After they got out of the car Tracy just looked down as she walked quickly to her room

“Mother! Mother!” Darlene called after her mother after they got at home

“What is it? Are you going to deny the pregnancy?  Pretend that you didn’t know?” Her mother shouted at her tears filling her eyes

“Mother I swear I don’t know what happened to me” Darlene looked at her mother pleadingly her voice shaking 

“Really? Are you going to tell me that you don’t remember? If you didn’t act like a Slut maybe you wouldn’t be carrying that bastard” Tracy said

“That’s unfair to say!” Darlene said as tears fell from her eyes

“Oh really? Didn’t you think that its quite unfair that you had to ruin all plans you had for your future?” Tracy shouted

“Mother please! I swear I didn’t do it. I only remember going out then next I woke up sore on my vaginal” Darlene cried

“Then you shouldn’t have gone out like I had told you! That’s why you are getting rid of that baby” Tracy replied as tears fell from her eyes

“What? All my life I have lived doing everything you want me to. I can’t even decide for my own life? Why do you treat me like this? Ever since I was young, I have been treated like some stranger” Darlene said

"am not going to kill an innocent child" she cried out to her mother

“Yes, you have no right to decide!” James replied from behind and Darlene turned around  to him

“What?” She said as tears fell from her eyes

“You have no right to decide for yourself. Want to know the truth?” James asked her furiously

“Honey not now! Please!” Tracy pleaded with him

“No! I have had enough, you know why you can’t live your life?  Why we are so furious?” Hames asked her going closer to her

“Because you my dear owe it to us!” James exclaimed, “What? I can’t believe this?” Darlene said as tears continue flowing form her eyes

“Yes. Everything that you do should be for us, because we sacrificed too much for you! That’s why you are nit going to keep that baby!” James said to her

“What you can’t decide for me. I can decide on my own and I refuse to abort this baby!” Darlene said to her father

“You have made me do everything that you want, even the course am studying since I was young you only thought that I can only be that” Darlene said

“Then Leave my house!” James shouted pointing to the door

“Honey please!” Tracy said wiping her tears

“Yes, let her leave my house! Pack all your belongings and get out! I have tolerated her behaviour for such a long time, but not anymore! I can’t take care of another child that’s not mine!” James said shouting at Darlene as she just stood there crying

“Another child that’s not yours?  What do you mean? Am not your daughter?” Darlene asked as tears continuously fell from her eyes

“Mother? She turned to her mother with tears in her eyes

“Is it true? Please tell me you are lying?” Darlene pleaded holding her mother’s hand

“Yes! You were adopted!” Tracy replied as well as tears fell from her eyes looking away from where Darlene stood

Darlene fell to the ground as all the things now started to make sense to her. how was it that she didn't think of it earlier?
