For she had borne an illegitimate baby by an American serviceman that she had given up for adoption. Even Mother Catherine wasn't without the stain of sin. She had admitted to the sin of pride over achieving her current rank. It was, she told him, the mark of a lifetime's devotion to God and the community. She confessed to Raffer
