Chapter 18: Mathew's POV

1849 Words
"Elizabeth, you can't keep avoiding me. Please just let me talk to you." I was pleading with her while standing outside her bedroom door. We've been at the Black Claw pack for 2 weeks now and Elizabeth has been avoiding me every chance she gets. The second I step into the same room, she bolts. It doesn't matter where she is. Obviously everyone has noticed, and they've asked me what's wrong. I told them I said terrible things to her and that I didn't mean any of them and needed to apologise to her. "How about you try talking to her another time, Mathew?", Jonathan said as he patted my shoulder. I let out a deep sigh. "I just want a minute, Jonathan; just one minute. I need to tell her how sorry I am." He and I went downstairs to the kitchen and he poured us some drinks. "Hey Mike", Jonathan greeted Mike as he came in the kitchen. Mike narrowed his eyes at me and I growled at him. "Okay, the two of you need to stop this. As far as I know, Elizabeth isn't dating either one of you, is she?", Jonathan asked. "We're just friends", Mike said in a low growl. "You could have fooled me", I said while rolling my eyes. Mike jumped out of his seat and almost attacked me before Jonathan stopped him. "You don't get to say anything, you scumbag!", Mike was shouting at me. "Stay away from her, Mike! She is mine!", I said as I roared at him. They both looked at me with shocked faces. I was also shocked to hear myself say that. I couldn't understand where the hell that came from. "Stop it!", we heard someone yelling at us. It was Elizabeth. She was standing at the top of the stairs. "Please just stop this. Stop fighting and stop being mean to each other. Mathew, Mike is my friend. You don't get to have an opinion on that!", she said while rushing down the stairs. I ran to her and grabbed her arm. "Please just give me a chance to apologise to you. I didn't mean any of those things I said. I was just...", I trailed off. "You were just telling me what you really think of me" She had tears in her eyes. She tore her hand out of mine and went to go stand next to Mike. "Mike, I'm done getting ready. Let's go warm up" About a week ago, Elizabeth asked Mike to start training her. She's picked up on the moves really quickly and will probably be good enough to train with the warriors of this pack pretty soon. She won't let me watch her train, but I've managed to watch without them knowing. When she and I met she told me that she's really clumsy. I probably only saw her being clumsy a day or two after we met, but ever since then she's been one of the most athletically gifted people I've come to know. She's faster than most people and she's even shown some good fighting skills when we were playfighting. "Elizabeth, I didn't mean any of those things", I took a step closer to her. "Please just give me five minutes. Just five minutes then I'll leave you alone. I promise!" Mike stepped infront of her and growled at me. "Mike, wait!" She took a deep breath and stepped infront of Mike. "Just five minutes, Mathew and not a second more!" I let out a sigh of relief. "Mike, let's give them some privacy", Jonathan said while trying to drag Mike away. "I'll be fine, Mike. I promise. I'll see you on the field in five minutes." Mike finally walked away. "Can we sit down?", I asked her with a pleading voice. She reluctantly sat down in one of the chairs. "I'm sorry. Elizabeth, I'm so sorry. I should never have said any of those things. You are the kindest, sweetest and most innocent soul I have ever met. I didn't mean any of those things, Elizabeth" I tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear and pulled her chair closer to mine. Tears were threatening to stream down her face. "Then why did you say them?" Her voice was shaky. I let out a deep breath. "I think I-", I was interrupted by my phone ringing. I pulled it out of my pocket and saw Megan's name on the caller ID. I had almost forgotten about Megan. She was probably calling because by now she had realised I wasn't going to come crawling back to her like I usually do, and wanted to remind me just how much she doesn't need me. I decided this was my chance to end things once and for all; and if I did it infront of Elizabeth, maybe she might be more inclined to forgive me. "Uhm, just give me a few seconds", I said as I stood up. "I just need to quickly grab this call." "Hey Meg." "Hey Matty" She sounded like she was pouting. "What do you want, Meg?" "Since you're being such a jerk to me, I've decided to send my friends to get my things from your apartment today. Unless, there's something you want to say to me...She trailed off. "Megan, you already sent your friends to get your things the last time you broke things off with me. I don't want you to EVER call me again. You and I are done. Just send the engagement ring by post. I mean it Meg. Don't contact me EVER again." I hung up the phone before she could say anything. "I'm sorry about that. I..." Elizabeth was gone. "Dammit!", I muttered to myself. Orion growled in my head. He has wanted me to apologise to Elizabeth for the past two weeks and I also wanted to apologise, but she wouldn't give me the time of day. And when she finally did agree to talk to me, I blew it! "I'm so stupid!", I said as I held my head in my hands. "If you're talking about Elizabeth then yes, you're an i***t", I heard Jonathan say as he stepped inside the kitchen. "Is she outside?", I asked him. "I should go to her." Jonathan held me back. "You can go to her after the pack meeting. Come on, we're about to start" A luna ceremony was held for Audrey a few days ago and she and Jonathan allowed Elizabeth and I to stay in the pack for a while. I wanted to leave and take Elizabeth with me, but she refused to go. I think she wants to try and figure out what she is. I can't leave without her. Even if she's still angry with me, I'm not going anywhere without her. Jonathan and I headed to the meeting hall. When we got there, he sat in the front row and I sat next to him. He and I have actually grown pretty close in the last few weeks. He has tried to get Elizabeth to talk to me and whenever Mike and I break into a fight, he's the one who tries to stop us; most likely because other than his dad, he's the only one who's strong enough to stop us, even if it's just for a few seconds. I told Jonathan and everyone else that the witches were trying to revive Raphael and it turns out that they already knew this. Apparently when the witches attacked the werewolf kingdom 15 years ago, they drained the werewolf royals' magical energy hoping that it would immediately revive Raphael. When that didn't work, the witches started attacking all the magical kingdoms and creatures in the magical world. When Elizabeth and Mike got to the meeting hall, Mike narrowed his eyes at me. Elizabeth avoided looking at me. I was about to stand up and go to her, but Jonathan grabbed my hand. "Mathew, the meeting is about to start. You can talk to her afterwards" I reluctantly sat back down and sat next to him. Audrey sat on his other side. "Are you still not going to tell me what this is about?", I asked Jonathan. He shook his head. "I don't want you accidentally telling someone, Mathew. This is pretty serious so I don't want to risk causing a panick." I rolled my eyes and Jonathan stood up to go on the stage. "Good afternoon everyone", Jonathan said as he took the stage. "Thank you all for being here." "As you all know, the coven of the blue eyed witches has been trying to revive the warlock, Raphael, for the past 15 years. They killed the Werewolf King and Queen and have killed hundreds of magical creatures trying to revive him." The room was dead silent. "Your luna has had a vision that she needs to tell you all about. It is a vision that affects every single one of us. I will now let her address you." "Hi everyone", Audrey said with somewhat of a shaky voice. Jonathan was standing next to her, holding her hand. "For those of you who may not know, I've only recently learned how to use my gift. Esther has been teaching me what it truly means to be a seer and I wouldn't have had any of the visions I've had thus far without her." She smiled and looked at Esther. "I had a vision yesterday. In this vision, I saw Raphael awaken." Everyone gasped. "This is not a vision of the future. It is a vision of the present. Raphael, the warlock has been awakened." The room was filled with panicked murmurs. "How is he awake? The witches have been trying to revive him for 15 years. Why now?", someone in the crowd asked. "I don't know. That wasn't shown to me", Audrey said. Everyone started talking louder. Some people were even standing up. "Everyone, please settle down", Jonathan said using an alpha command. Audrey then continued talking. "Raphael will become a God", she said. Some people were now screaming and grabbing onto their kids. Audrey had to continue talking in a raised voice. "Raphael will become a God and once he does, he will consume the Moon Godess and bring unthinkable suffering to the Sun Godess. He will kill us all, UNLESS we stop him." "We've been tormented by the witches for 15 years, luna. It's only recently that we've had some success. We can't stop them and we sure as hell can't stop Raphael. We need to hide. Alpha Jonathan, please we need to hide", a man yelled. Jonathan and Audrey were looking at each other and at the crowd with concerned faces. It looked like they were actually thinking about hiding. Orion was getting increasingly agitated. I could hear him roaring in my head. When he roared again, a loud roar left my mouth. The room was silent. He pushed me to the back of my mind and was now in control of my body. He stood up and approached the stage.
