I watched from the window that is stood how one elderly man with glasses dressed in a heavy winter coat strode by with a young boy that I was pretty certain wouldn’t be more than 25, his bleached blonde hair was in a wavy undercut that befitted his face making it a little prominent.
“You said something fell to this place…there’s nothing here” The old man's grumpy voice sounded annoyed and he intended to turn back before the boy started to look around.
“I saw this last night grandpa, I swear” The boy insisted but his grandfather was already walking away as the boy continued to look around and when he walked closer he narrowed his eyes at the invisible ship as he could see through whatever was resting there, I knew he was going to find out soon as he started to bring his hands closer to the ship that seems to be half-buried in the snow that had fallen overnight. His hands met a solid and he grinned.
“Grandpa” He called loudly beaming as he moved quickly to stop the old man from leaving.
“I told you something crashed here from space last night, didn’t I? Come see it?” The young man pulled his shabbily walking grandfather towards the ship and asked him to touch the invisible solid body, they couldn’t see it but they knew something was there” The old man looked apologetically towards his grandson probably remorseful for not believing him the first place.
“We should go inform Thompson about this,” The grandfather said after a while of staring at the invisible ship.
“Yes grandfather,” The boy said before turning away from the ship with his grandfather and heading the other way with him. I sighed a heavy sigh of relief hoping to God Barb was well charged all ready to fly the ship out of the area so as not to drive attention to ourselves, I had a feeling if the government get their hands on the ship, they would be able to trace it back to the source and I felt it was a really terrible idea to lead the human government to Zullion, maybe I wasn’t on good terms with Hero but I wasn’t going to jeopardize the lives of millions just to get back at him. I sighed and turned back to Barb but squawked in shock and surprise to see her standing in front of me.
“What were you looking at?” She questioned innocently as I raised my hand to my chest to calm my frantic heartbeat.
“You scared me” I confessed but she was giving me a blank look.
“You look very much human” Barb observed and I was forced to roll my eyes moving to wear the duffel bag is and sitting next to it.
“We have to get this ship to a secluded and close area before the human finds it, could you do that?” I questioned Barb and she turned to the ship giving it a brief look.
“The damage done to the ship isn’t much and it could get us as far as 15miles before shutting down due to lack of fuel and proper engine maintenance” Barb informed and I sighed looking out the window again.
“Do you have any idea where we are Barb, I need to get to Missouri, that’s where my family is” I don’t know why the thought was so funny to me, they all thought I was dead and I was pretty certain that now they were living a happy life or I hope so. I didn’t want to think about any negative things so I started to hope for the best, but I still questioned myself…what exactly do I hope to find on earth? A home? I wasn’t certain because I knew I didn’t belong to earth anymore but I was going to look at the bright side.
“Claire, do you have any options?” Barb questioned snapping me back to reality.
“Yeah, I want to go back to Missouri Jefferson, I want to go back to my family,” I told Barb but she gave me an uncertain look before she started to express her concern and disapproval.
“In my opinion, it’s best we hide the ship and continue our journey to your home by foot or using any earth carriages available as their satellite and control system is found to easily find us if we decide to take the ship to your home” Barb has a point, the best thing to do is not draw the government attention to us.
“How far is Missouri Jefferson from here Barb?” I reiterated my question.
“Right now, we are in New York, Blue mountain in Essex Hamilton” I suddenly have flashes of my previous life as a student Yorker.
“This place isn’t that far from the city, we could catch a local bus or something, Barb…grab all we’ll need and power up this ship…we need to get it to a place where it’ll be safe from the curious humans” I can’t believe I just talked like that but what can I do, I was no longer a human, oh god this is getting harder than I thought.
“The Ghafil have a base here on earth, I could communicate to their base and returned the ship to them-
“Hero will be able to track me that way” I instantly shun the idea.
“But he will find you with your family either way” Barb made known and I sighed.
“I don’t care but the thing is, I don’t want him to find me sooner than I calculated form, I want to see my family Barb” After that was said, Barb immediately turn to the pilot chair ready to power up the engines while I slowly got lost in my thoughts as I welcome the flashes and images of my family, my brother, Charlie…my mother and my dad. I hope they were all doing well…the memories of us together had me sobbing silently, I miss them…I miss them so much and I didn’t realise it…I started to wish and hope that they miss me too.
“Are you alright Claire?” Barb asked turning back briefly from the swivel pilot chair she was sitting on.
“I’m fine” I sobbed and sniffed unable to hold back the emotions that were threatening to consume me.
“Is this about your family Claire?” I wondered how she could guess that.
“I think so, I don’t know how it’s gonna be to be going back home to them, I’m an alien now Barb…I kept feeling they are going to hate me for it” I lamented sorrowfully while sniffling as I tried to hold back my tears.
“If they are really your family, I don’t think it’s matters what form or colour you’re in, the truth is you’ll always be their daughter and that is the fact” Barb motivated eyes fixed on the wide front window screen that was showing the sky while I smile feeling a lot better after what she said.
“I have found a suitable place nearby to place the ship, I will be going down now so I want you to hold tight to something” Barb instructed and I immediately grab the dangling seatbelt by the corner before the ship turned down and headed for the ground, I almost lost my hold on the belt as my view looked like things were upside down but soon, things were over and Barb was effortlessly placing the ship under a mountain shade.
“Barb, the place is perfect…I mean it's high up in the mountains but how on earth are we supposed to get down from here?” I questioned her after she successfully gets off the pilot seat.
“You don’t have to worry, you have the ability to levitate and defy gravity on earth” Barb’s news had me blinking several times because of course, I didn’t believe it.
“Did you just say I can fly?” I asked again to be certain because I wasn’t certain at all.
“Yes, only on earth…the gravity on earth is way denser than Zullion’s which serve as a great advantage to you but the thing is…you have to try so you don’t end up falling” Barb was still giving me instructions, and when the ship control projected a video which looked like it was Hero in it.
“Claire, why are you doing this? It’s dangerous for out there and you know it” Hero looked disoriented and tired from the look on his face but I wasn’t going to just forgive him this time.
“How do you cut the damn thing off-“ I was still asking Barb as Hero’s eyes fixed on mine through the projection.
“Claire, the earth is in a state of panic and are highly alert for any alien sightings…if they find you…you’re going to be-“ Thankfully Barb cut it off giving me a sense of relief.
