Episode 33-Meeting my family.

My stomach was on fire when I slowly opened my eyes. Then Barb immediately rushed to me with what looked like soaked cereal, I had to quickly take it as I was starving. I didn’t know what it was but I rushed it down my throat, and then Barb gave me another glass of it, then another until I belched out in satisfaction. I heaved a heavy sigh and wished I could just go back to sleep until my eyes fell on four different people standing in front of me and looking at me with an awestruck expression.

I lost my voice as my eyes fell on dad, then Charlie, then Tanya, then my mom…then me. They were staring at me with their hands folded with a weird frown rested firmly on their face.

“Who are you?” My mom finally broke the awkward silence.

“Mom it’s me, Claire” I croaked suddenly feeling my emotions get the best of me.

“Just because you look like our daughter doesn’t mean you’ll be one…we’ve seen many strange things to think-

“Mom, it’s me…Claire…from the future. Did I warn you about the apocalypse remember? With the Nick…Hero…it’s me, can’t you remember?” I felt tears slowly moving up my eyes ready to spill.

“She died” It was me speaking now, the other Claire…the one from the past” I looked over at her and stared at her for a while before sighing, how lucky she was.

“I know, I did thought I died but Hero didn’t release me…He kept my soul and…” I heaved another heavy sigh not ready to tell them that I was an alien yet.

“It’s me…Charlie” I turned to my brother whose expression had softened and was staring at me with a quizzical look on his face.

“Tanya?” I called and she looked surprised I knew her name.

“I knew it’s insane that I suddenly showed up here, after Hero restored my soul I was living a happy life on their planet until I found out he lied to me-

“Hero would never do that” My brother immediately defended Hero, it’s sad how my family trusted Hero so much.

“That’s what I thought, but he married me…he lied to me. He was selfish and kept my soul hidden all this while until he needed me.

“I don’t believe you” Charlie stated firmly and I heaved a heavy sigh suddenly feeling frustrated.

“How can I make you believe me?” I asked staring at all of them with a pitiful look on my face.

“There was a night you caught me crying and you came to my room; I hugged you tight and told you something…what was it?” My mom asked and I smiled as I suddenly recalled that night.

“You were 12” My mom hinted and I smiled.

“I only caught you crying once a mom, you thought dad was cheating on you because you saw someone kissed him but dad came home and told you everything that it was his boss just throwing herself at dad and dad angrily quit the job the second day, because of that you helped him get a job at the same research institute you work at” I explained and my family exchanged shocked look because only they would know that.

“When did you tell me about the apocalypse?” Charlie asked and I gave a faint laugh.

“You made me so mad in the car when we were returning home when I moved to sit for my SATs, I predicted dad had helped applied for your MBA in the car and when you get home and dad talked about it, you were forced to ask how I knew” Charlie’s jaw dropped in awe as he stared at me but then he frowned.

“There’s a single secret I shared with Claire, what was that?” Charlie asked and I scoffed.

“You really want me to say it in front of everyone?” I asked with a shocked expression on my face but he shrugged like it wasn’t a big deal but trust me it was.

“Well, if you say so…you dated mom’s project Partner before. Was it Rosa or Rose I don’t know…I think she was six years older” My family immediately directed a look to Charlie.

“f**k! Not that…the paint accident-

“Oh, you were talking about when we accidentally scratch off the car paint of the new car mom got for his anniversary gate when we were having an argument, so we decided to use a drawing paint to fix it?” I asked and he nodded.

“You dated Rosa?” My mom asked with a degusted look on her face.

“Congratulations mom, you have got two Claires” My brother gave an awkward laugh before meeting Tanya’s face.

“You never told me anything about Rosa?” Judging from the jealous look on Tanya’s face, I could guess they were still together.

“Sorry babe, I totally forgot all about it” Charlie had a timid and guilt-stricken look on his face but Tanya looked like she wasn’t having it.

“But…why did you come back?” The younger me asked and my attention immediately moved to her.

“I wanted to ask the same thing and also, when you came back to warn us…you were in Claire’s body…how did you manage to have a body of your own? I’m so shocked right now” My mom questioned and I must admit neither of their questions was easy to answer to me.

“Why are you bombarding her with so many questions, I mean you saw how she fainted at the door…it’s obvious the poor child has gone through a lot. She’ll come around and tell us what happened. For now, she needs a proper rest” My dad said and I gave him a smile in appreciation.

“Come here” My dad urged and I quickly moved to give him a warm hug.

“I’m so glad you’re home” My dad muttered as she kissed my head.

“It’s so weird having two of Claire in the house” My brother still had his sense of humour I could tell. After I released my dad I looked up to my mom who quickly pulled me into her embrace.

“You know I hate group hugs” Charlie reminded me after I released mom and was now staring at him.

“I know, but this isn’t a group hug,” I told him and he cringed when I suddenly hugged him tight.

“This...is…so…weird,” He said slowly before I released him and hugged Tanya.

“I didn’t think I’ll find you here, how’s Tony?” I asked nicely after our brief friendly hug.

“He’s fine…Tony is great, he will be coming home for vacation. He works in Chicago…him and the rest of the boys-

“Hold on a second, Nick, Danny, and Brian!” I stated unbelievably.

“Yes, they created an engineering company together last two years and it’s really growing” Tanya revealed and I laughed elatedly.

“I’m so happy for them” I smiled and my face fell on Claire who had a cold look on her face, I wonder why she was looking at me like that, she was me and among all of my family members, I thought she’ll be the happiest to see me.

“Mommy” I heard a child-like voice behind Tanya who I’m certain I haven’t met before. I gave the small child a confused look wondering who the baby I guess wouldn’t be more than 3 or 2years old strode carefully to the rest of the family.

“Cam!” Tanya called a little surprise as he raised the small boy into her arms while I just stared in shock.

“Charlie we really need to get going so we can tuck Cameron to bed” I was too shocked by the revelation, I mean…I still can’t quite believe Tanya has a baby.

“You…have a baby?” The question dropped from my mouth before I could stop it.

“Yes, Charlie and I are engaged” Tanya smiled flashing me her expensive diamond ring and I looked over at the boy with shock still written on my face. I mean I wasn’t expecting them to have a baby too soon, my brother wasn’t the sort…so it came as an overbearing shock to me so I glanced over to my brother who gave me knowing look like he just affirmed it.

“This is Cameron, he’s 2 and a half years old” Tanya introduced waving the hand of her little kid, while I just stood completely confused.

“Who is that by the way?” Finally, they got curious about Barb.

“That’s Barb, she’s a machine Hero made for me to keep me safe and keep me company” I introduced and I saw everyone’s faces widened in obvious shock.

“You’re serious she’s a machine…She looks so-

“Human” My mom completed for Charlie as they started to examine Barb.

“She’s a high-tech robot that understands everything even to the emotions of human beings. She’s like artificial intelligence and can act on her own” I smiled as they all moved close to Barb and started checking her out, after that…we started discussing about what has happened over the years before mom urged Claire to take me to my brother’s old room since he had moved out of the house with Tanya to live with their 2year old and build their home before the wedding in three months.

“I don’t know why you come back when you could have just stayed there with Hero, I mean he likes you…why do you have to come like right now?” Claire sounded upset and I kept wondering why she would be mad at me when we were literally the same person.

“I…” Claire didn’t give me a chance to defend myself before storming out of the door angrily.
