Chapter 7-Love and hate

/Mia’s POV/

Ember and I have a typical love-and-hate sibling relationship though my scale kinda tips more to the hate part of the equation since my brother isn’t very likeable, at least the other side of him that I’ve had to witness a couple of times that many people don’t, isn’t. I don’t hate my brother or maybe I do since he’s somewhat annoying but there’s one thing that’s for sure and that is, I don’t want him to get hurt.

For the first in in years, Ember used super speed, he became one with his wolf which was obvious since he was baring his alpha eyes. I was happy for him but at the same time scared for him, the scene unfolding right before me made me realise who Daisy was. The blind seer witch that awakened 4 years ago. Jake’s daughter and the same person who foresaw Amber dying. I hold none of this against Daisy of course but I’m quite aware she has somewhat of a complicated history with my brother which made the situation rather tricky.

“I’m not gonna blame you for not telling me you knew my brother, and that you’re meant to be his mate. It’s not your fault” I assured her as I planted my hand over Daisy’s back since she had refused to come out of the blanket she had over her head. “And if you don’t wanna accept my brother, it’s fine. It’s completely up to you, I’m not gonna judge” I promised before she finally peeks out of the blanket. While she couldn’t see, somehow she knew exactly where I was, I guess it’s her powers at work.

“I’m sorry I didn’t say anything. I just didn’t wanna talk about it” Daisy explained and I smiled.

“It’s no biggy” I shrugged with a reassuring smile on my lips. “I still can’t believe you’re my brother’s mate, it all just feels so weird and surreal-

“I’m not his mate. I don’t wanna be” I gulped hard at her response. I don’t wanna end up saying something that might reinforce that idea because I think Daisy and my brother will look really good together.

“It’s okay. I understand. I think we just missed your dad’s class, will you be okay?” I asked wanting to change the topic since she seemed rather uncomfortable talking about the mate thing.

“Oh that, I’m not sure but I’m sure dad wouldn’t mind” Daisy forced me a sad smile that made me wanna pat her head. She looked so fragile and innocent with that look on her face. Daisy doesn’t know it yet but she has this childlike innocence to her that would make anyone wanna protect her.

“What are you doing?” Daisy asked since I was suddenly patting her head. I drew my hand back and smiled since the action was rather instinctive.

“I…just wanted to assure you that everything’s gonna be alright” I replied while that wasn’t the exact reason why I was suddenly touching her head, I wasn’t lying either. I wanted to make sure she got that.

“Thanks Mia…honestly, I…I thought you’d be disappointed because I didn’t tell you about it. I knew but it was a bit difficult to talk about-

“Not at all. I know you and my brother have a bit of a history so I totally understand but I want you to know that you’re my friend Daisy and you being my brother’s mate wouldn’t change that” I had no idea Daisy could blush until that moment. Her cheeks instantly reddened to my words making her even more adorable. Daisy is some months older than me but she doesn’t look it or maybe those months were just insignificant.

“Why don’t you get some rest…I’m gonna go to my next class and maybe talk to a couple of my friends about what was taught in class today. I’ll try what I can to make it up for us…Daisy” I called sharply after she suddenly stilled. Her eyes dilated and lost focus for a minute but then she was back. “Daisy, are you okay?” I asked unsure of what to make of what she just did.

“Ember will soon pass out, he looks like he’s in pain” I froze in total shock, where is that coming from?.

“What? What are you talking about?” I demanded and she slightly furrowed her brows.

“I don’t normally get this type of random vision but I did and right now, Ember is in pain. You have to go check on him” I wish I don’t believe her, but her visions are too accurate to ignore. I immediately reached for my phone in my baby pink stylish backpack and dialled Lauren’s number. Coincidentally, Lauren and Ember share a dorm room which is why, he was the best person to confirm the news from.

“Hey-

“I guess you finally remember that I live Mia, well it’s good to hear from you” Lauren said right before I could move my lips.

“Can you check on Ember please, I think something’s up with him” I explained while looking at Daisy who was staring blankly into space. It appears she is now unsure of my location since she would often turn around when I talk.

“What do you mean something’s up…did you guys fight again?” Lauren queried.

“Will you just check him for me please?” I urged and I heard him heave heavily over the phone. What came after that were persistent and desperate calls of Ember’s name. My heart raced in my chest, my brother’s wolf might be dormant but he wasn’t weak, he was still one of the best warriors of the pack and a great sorcerer.

“He’s gonna take him to the clinic and I think-” Daisy paused and winced as if finding it hard to read what she was seeing. “He looks scared” I clenched down on my jaw unsure what to make of that. ‘Scared?’ That doesn’t sound like Ember. The last time Ember ever showed anyone that he was scared was when Amber died, even if he had developed PTSD from the event he refused to ever act scared in front of anyone ever again.

“I need to go to him. I’ll be right back Daisy, get some rest” I couldn’t wait. As much as I wanted to hear every single detail of Daisy’s vision which she had a hard time putting together, I couldn’t wait. I wanted to make sure he was okay. Learning Ember was in the clinic felt terribly wrong for some reason I couldn’t comprehend.

“Daisy sure is talented,” I thought aloud. Seer witches are pretty rare, only one out of a thousand witch babies born awakened as a seer. Not only are they uncommon, they are very valuable. Kings and Emperors of the past used to do anything to have them by their side to use them. Their otherworldly powers are pretty scary and people grow to be afraid of them but they could never harm them. Most of them often go into hiding and never return for fear of being hunted, used and abused. Their powers are often hereditary, if any witch is present as a seer witch, people could often trace it back into the family.

“How is he?” I met Lauren outside the clinic while he was on the phone with someone.

“He’s okay. It’s nothing serious. His wolf awakened so his body is getting used to the sudden changes that come with it” Laura explained after ending his call with whoever he was talking to and I heaved a heavy sigh of relief, “Is it really true that Ember’s found his mate?” Lauren asked with a curious glint in his eyes.

“Yeah-

“Is it really that girl?” Lauren further asked and I nodded.

“That’s a really crazy turn of events” Lauren smirked.

“It’s not funny Lauren-

“How much are you gonna bet on Ember getting rejected?” Lauren smirked.

“How could you even think of something like that?” I was mad. It might have been a joke but just thinking about it felt sad and scary. Rejection? The thought alone terrifies me.

“It’s a harmless bet-

“What are you two doing?” Ember appeared outside the clinic with his jacket in his arms and his sleeves rolled up.

“Are you supposed to be out yet? I thought you were in a lot of pain” Lauren was ignored since I was busy staring down at him, he seems rather focused on me as well. Did Daisy reject you by any chance? Is that why you’re in so much pain?” Lauren further questioned.

“f**k off Lauren, I wasn’t rejected” Ember angrily walked away and I sighed since he refused to say anything to me. After some minutes of staring at me, I thought for he was gonna say something or at least ask of Daisy but he didn’t say anything. He just walked past me.

“Mia, Mia” Charlotte called from afar before suddenly running over. She was one of the new friends I made in school. Charlotte has one talent, pissing people of. She speaks without filter, she was someone who was honest to a fault.

“I heard that blind girl you often hang out with is your brother’s mate, is that right?” She asked as her eyes followed Ember and Lauren’s retreating figure. I’m already used to my girl group admiring and crushing on my brother. Though he’s never dated any of them.

“What do you think Sylvia is gonna do once she finds out, do you think she’s gonna confront your brother or the girl. I heard she’s still very possessive of the alpha even though they are no more dating” Right, that b***h, I should warn Daisy about her soon, it’ll be best if she never runs into her.
