CHAPTER 7

1751 Words
Cedric’s POV “Cedric, I have conducted a detailed analysis about all the people invited by Alpha Elliot. The Alphas that are colluding against our pack won’t even be present at the feast. Don’t you think we should ask Alpha Dimon to rethink his plan?” Justin’s words droned in my ears, irritating me. I had requested Alpha Dimon to replace him several times. But he was hell-bent on retaining him for some reason I couldn’t even ask. A long, deep sigh escaped my lips. I was stuck with him and his incessant chatter. “Cedric? Did you hear what I said? I think you should talk to Alpha Dimon, maybe suggest a better plan,” he spoke up again. He would probably keep hounding me until he got a satisfactory reply. “The other Alphas are sending their spies under disguise. They will convey the first-hand account of everything that happens at the feast.” “But…” Justin started again but was interrupted by Alpha Dimon, “Cedric is right. Today I will teach that prick, Elliot such a lesson that it will make the other Alpha’s souls shudder. Nobody will dare to go against us again.” “Alpha,” I spun around and greeted him; bowing my head slightly. There was something strange about his expression but I didn’t dare to ask. He placed his hand on my shoulder and spoke in a slightly chipped voice, “There have been some rumors lately….” My eyes widened and I held my breath. I had explicitly told everyone to hide the rumors from him. How did he find out? His fingers dug into my skin a bit painfully, “I know that it is not your fault but you must understand that it is unbearable to any Alpha to hear such words.” “I am so sorry, Alpha. I swear I didn’t do anything to flaunt my strengths,” I said in a helpless voice. I had tried so hard to stay low-key. “Yet, the news flies like a flitting hummingbird; from one end of the world to another. I am afraid it will taint my reputation.” My lips pressed in a thin line and I hung my head, “I apologize for my inability to contain the rumor. Alpha Dimon, I will accept any punishment you decide.” A soft chuckle escaped his lips and his grip loosened, “Why would I punish my Beta for being efficient?” He walked around me. Facing the other side, he continued, “Yet the rumors must be dealt with….” “What are your orders, Alpha?” “Today, I will go to the feast alone. You both will disguise yourselves and blend with the crowd.” “But Alpha, this is way too dangerous. What if there is a sudden attack? You should let us stay with you,” I couldn’t stop myself from countering him. His expression darkened and shadows of anger loomed over him. His voice was cold and harsh when he replied, “If you try to approach me without my orders, I won’t tolerate it. Now, go and do what you are told.” “Understood Alpha,” I replied, bowing from my waist. Alpha Dimon had already made up his mind. So, all I could was find other ways to enhance his security. A few minutes after Alpha Dimon left, I set off with a group of our men who were disguised as dancers. We stayed at a safe distance from Alpha Dimon’s car to ensure that he didn’t spot us. “Don’t you think Alpha Dimon will get angry if he finds out about this large group of people following him?” Justin’s annoying voice sounded as he slid down beside me. He had somehow managed to stick to me despite my elaborate efforts. “Isn’t this against his orders?” “No.” “How? He explicitly told us that he wanted to go to the feast alone. Yet, you are defying him openly. Don’t you think you are being shameless?” My jaws set together in anger. What in the f*****g world was wrong with this man? Why couldn’t he just let me be? He took out his phone and punched in Alpha Dimon’s number, “Given the loyal Gamma I am, I should inform Alpha Dimon about your secret plan.” I snatched the phone from his hand before he could tap the call icon, “How many times have I told you to leave the thinking to me? I am not defying Alpha’s orders. He doesn’t really want to go there alone. He just doesn’t want the others to find out about our presence.” Justin’s jaws hung open; his eyebrows furrowed and then his eyes widened as if the largest secret in the history of werewolves, “There have recently been rumors that YOU are at the core of The Bloodfest Pack. If you were to leave the pack, it would crumble. So, Alpha wants to use this opportunity to kill two birds with a stone. He wants to quell the rumors and teach Alpha Elliot a lesson at the same time.” His voice grew even more excited as he continued, “Alpha Elliot won’t be angry with you for taking them along as they are in disguise!” I blew out a puff of air and shook my head. “Now that you have figured it out, can you please shut up?” I averted my eyes from his annoying face and looked outside the bus; the landscape changed drastically from lush grassland to marshy swamps. We drove through the tapering road for a while before entering the forests of Amaru. The feast was being held right in the heart of the forest in The Holden Mansion. The faint sounds of cars, howls, music, and chatter could be heard as we approached the mansion. It seemed like the feast was already in full swing. Our bus swerved around the bend and was about to enter the mansion’s boundary when a guard stopped us. He asked us to park the bus in the backyard as it would spoil the aesthetics. By the time the guard left, I had lost sight of Alpha Dimon. “Justin, park the bus and lead everyone inside through the service entrance,” I jumped off the bus. I rushed to the parking lot to find that Alpha Dimon had already parked his car and entered the mansion. Handing my invite to the guard, I hurried inside; almost heaving a sigh of relief when I spotted him immediately. Alpha Dimon was leaning against the glass counter of the bar; his demeanor portrayed carelessness and nonchalance. Swirling the drink in his hand, he looked at me for a brief moment before turning away. I understood his signal at once. He was giving me a chance to analyze the threats. My eyes swept around the mansion; scanning for suspicious people and objects. Within a few minutes, I had already spotted all the spies. They were being very obvious; their gazes fixed on Alpha Dimon’s every move. My phone beeped with a notification from Alpha Dimon, “Why did you bring an entire battalion? Don’t you think I can handle this on my own?” I blanked out for a moment seeing this question. I didn’t want to offend Alpha Dimon in any way. I was still thinking about the reply when Justin snatched the phone from me. He had already sent the reply by the time I realized what was going on. ‘Not at all, Alpha. We are just here to enjoy some free food. We won’t disturb you at all.’ “How dare you, Justin?” I hissed under my breath and I snatched back my phone. ‘Very well then. I will go and stir some trouble,’ The phone beeped with Alpha’s reply. Thankfully, he didn’t seem too offended. My face flushed with anger and the bones of my knuckles crackled. I grabbed his shoulders; letting my claws elongate and dig into his flesh. His face turned pale and he looked like he would start screaming any moment. But, I didn’t want to let him go. The veins of my forehead popped but I forced myself to release him. It was more important to make sure that Alpha Dimon’s plan proceeded flawlessly. “I asked you for something,” Alpha Dimon’s domineering voice drew my attention to the entrance. My breath hitched and my heartbeat accelerated when my eyes fell on the girl he was addressing. She… she was my mate. My mind blanked out and my entire body froze. Why was Alpha Dimon talking to my mate? “H…How can someone be so shameless? I don’t even know you,” her voice seemed so disturbed and flustered that my heart ached to console her. I found myself walking toward her; as if drawn by an invisible bond. “I. always. take. What. I. want.” Alpha Dimon’s forceful words made my steps falter. A surge of blind fury engulfed me, my eyes narrowed and I glared at Alpha Dimon. I would have attacked him but was distracted by a cold grip on my arm. Justin dragged me to a corner and forced me to look at him, “What do you think you were going to do, Cedric? Even if you know that girl, you can’t attack your own Alpha openly.” His words were like a splatter of cold water on my burning rage. I couldn’t even attack Alpha Dimon. What was I supposed to do then? Stand by and watch as my Alpha assaulted my mate? Sharp knives tore my insides, sending a surge of unbearable pain through me. I forced myself to ignore everything and ran out of the mansion. Faster and faster; I pushed myself forward; stopping only when I had put enough distance between the mansion and myself. My knees buckled and I dropped to the ground. What kind of a person was I? My mate was being abused and I just ran away. The twisting sensation in my heart kept escalating; filling my chest with intense agony. It flowed through my body until every pore stabbed me like sharp needles. It kept mounting and building until it burst out of my throat as an earth-shattering scream. “Why Moon Goddess? Why? Why did you have to do this to me?”
