Calliope stared into the ceiling and hugged her knees. Thinking back to what happened to her pack made her sobbed loudly. It hurt her heart, and Calliope felt betrayed when she saw the man who ordered the attack; it was none other than her mate.
Calliope wished for her mate to be her protector, to be her safe haven and comfort, but finding out that he's the notorious rogue leader, she felt weak and scared.
"Cali?" a woman's voice called. Calliope snapped out of her thoughts and looked at the cell in front of her. She instantly recognized the person calling her.
"Jillian?" she whispered. Jillian smiled sadly and put her hands on the cell bar.
"You've been caught too?" Jillian asked. Calliope nodded her head and crawled until she was sitting in front of the cell bar. Jillian was her friend from the neighboring pack, and seeing her here along with other women terrifies Calliope. Why was her mate doing this?
"Do you think…do you think they'll come and rescue us?" Calliope asked and gripped the cell bar tightly. Jillian bowed and shook her head.
"It's futile...that man...Thanatos was powerful," Jillian muttered. "I don't think we'll be able to get out of here," she added. Calliope felt her heart sunk. Hope faded.
"What will happen to us?" Calliope whispered; tears left her eyes. She quickly wiped it off and stared at Jillian.
"I don't know, but I heard they would give us to the vampires," Jillian replied. Fear was evident in her face.
"Vampires?" Calliope asked. If the vampires were involved, the council would surely know and investigate the missing women.
"Why are you alone in there? Are you the only one they caught?" Jillian asked, changing the topic. Calliope then realized Jillian was with women their age while she was all alone in her cell. She shook her head and looked around.
"No, there were six of us, but I don't know where they are," Calliope answered. The metal door suddenly creaked open. Jillian cowered in fear while Calliope back away. Three bulky men entered. The women began to cry as the men shake the cell bar.
Calliope sat on the corner to hide her small body, but the men noticed her. They immediately opened her cell and walked inside.
"Is this the woman the one boss wanted?" the man asked his companion. His companion nodded. He grabbed Calliope's arm and dragged her outside.
"W-Where are you g-going to take me!?" Calliope yelled while trying to free her arms from the hooligan's grip.
"Shut up and walk!" the man yelled.
"Cali!" Jillian shouted. Calliope looked at her with pleading eyes - begging Jillian to save her from the men trying to take her away. Calliope was trembling in fear. She wanted to go home and cuddle her favorite pillow, but it's hopeless right now.
They walked into a seemingly long hallway, leaving the prison ground. Calliope remained still while bowing her head and sniffled a sob.
"Stay here and don't try to run away if you don't want to get killed," the man said and pushed her to a vacant room. Calliope heard the door locked. She didn't even manage to glimpse the house's structure because she was afraid to the core.
Calliope immediately went to the window and opened it. She's going to escape no matter what. To her dismay, the window has grills built to avoid breaking out.
"Where do you think you are going?" Thanatos said in a deep husky voice behind her that sent shivers down her spine. Calliope's wolf was running amok inside of her knowing her mate was around.
"Answer me!" Thanatos said and pulled her by her waist. Calliope's breath hitched when her gaze landed on Thanatos' piercing amber eyes.
They stared at each other for minutes when Calliope remembered everything. She quickly pushed Thanatos away while her back hit the corner of the wall.
Thanatos glared at her, and Calliope couldn't help but gulp. He walked towards her slowly. Calliope didn't know what to do. Another part of her wanted to run away from him, but the other one wanted to stay and embraced him in her arms.
"What did you do to me? Why am I feeling this way?" Thanatos asked and placed his hands on the wall, caging Calliope in. He already knows the answer; it's because of the mate bond. He leaned his face closer until he was only inches away from Calliope's lips.
"Are you a f*****g mute!?" Thanatos said, which made Calliope flinched and closed her eyes.
"I'm s-sorry…please... don't h-hurt me," Calliope said while stuttering. Thanatos smirked.
"Seems like you aren't mute, little one," he said. "Now, look at me," he whispered. Calliope slowly opened her eyes and stared at her mate. She almost dropped her jaw, seeing how gorgeous the man was standing in front of her. He's even more handsome now that she got to clear look at him. This is the wanted criminal; Thanatos, her mate.
"What?" Thanatos asked. Calliope shook her head vigorously.
"I'm sorry…let me go, please," she said. She felt like her heart would pop out of her chest any minute from now.
"That's something I can't do," Thanatos said and backed away.
"Please…send my friends and me back to our pack," Calliope begged.
"No," Thanatos said without hesitation. "Besides your pack was already destroyed. There's no use coming back," Thanatos muttered. Calliope gasped and stared at him with disbelief and hurt.
"You m-monster! What did you do!? What did you do!?" Calliope yelled hysterically and began hitting Thanatos' chest. She couldn't believe what she had heard. Moonshine pack was no longer around. Her home for years, the sweet memories she had, vanished into thin air.
"Enough!" Thanatos yelled angrily and grabbed her hands. "I don't answer to you, little one," he added. He harshly let go of her and cupped her face.
"Whether you like it or not, you will f*****g stay by my side," Thanatos said. Calliope's knees weakened. She couldn't breathe, and words echoed in her ears. Why? Why did the Moon Goddess give her to the cold-hearted rogue?
Thanatos stared at her and left, slamming the door in the process. Calliope slumped on the ground as tears raced down her cheeks.
