Another first was waking up to the sunrise. I was stiff, but feeling noticeably more rested than the previous day. I lay in the branches for a good while, yawning, and stretching the knots and kinks from my muscles. I climbed down and immediately relieved myself over the rocks. My next thought was of the small stream I’d happened across the day before. There was no point in climbing down to the beach. I could access the jungle from where I was. I pushed through the undergrowth, moving in the general direction of the stream. I would drink, wash, and then go looking for that fruit tree. Later I’d find something I could use as a spear and try my hand at spear fishing. Failing that, I could try roasted seagull. There were certainly plenty of those. And then Carlos.
