Chapter ThreeThe ship steamed into the Port of Dakar in the early afternoon. It was very hot, but there was a soft touch of the trade winds to keep the waves dancing and to sweep away the oppression and humidity of the heat. To Kelda the golden sunshine made her feel as if it seeped into her body, melting away the last of the cold and awakening a new vitality inside her. Now that the moment had come when they must leave the ship, she felt as if she could not bear to say ‘goodbye’.
