Chapter 5 – Drive Home

I made my way to our table and sat down, placing my food in front of me. "What's up, guys?" I asked Addison and Aubrey. "Oh nothing, we were just discussing the sudden disappearance of Axel Kyler," Aubrey replied. I sighed and looked over to his table to see all his friends sitting there, but there was no sign of him. It had been three days since that incident, and all three days he was nowhere to be found. It was weird, really. My eyes met with Catherine and she smiled at me, and I smiled back at her, before turning around and shifting my attention back to Addison and Aubrey. "Don't you find it weird that he stopped coming to school since the day he saved you?" Addison asked. "Maybe he's busy," I replied, focusing on my food. For some reason I felt unsafe when he didn't come to school. I wanted to see him, to thank him face to face, to be his... Friend. I think. I don't know what exactly I wanted, I just missed his presence. Addison and Aubrey probably noticed the change in my mood and quickly diverted the topic to something else while I tuned them out, focusing on my food cause why not? Food is life. - - - - - "Ughh, no!" I groaned to myself, tapping the screen of my phone vehemently, trying to stop it from switching the f**k off. It was charged to a seventy percent and yet it just decided to randomly switch off, just when I needed to call an Uber to drive me home from school. Amazing. I shoved it inside the pocket of my shorts and breathed out through my nose in frustration, trying hard to calm myself down. Now I'll have to walk all the way back home. Perfect. I groaned once more and started with my journey. The distance wasn't quite a lot but it would still take me at least twenty minutes to get home on foot, and I wasn't really a huge fan of walking, to be honest. I had only turned round the corner when I heard a loud honk from behind me, making me startle as I stopped and turned my head to look at the car. A sleek black BMW with tinted windows pulled up beside me, and the window slid down to reveal no other than my Knight in shining car - Axel Kyler. He was wearing black aviators making him look even more breathtaking than he already was. "Hey, you need a ride?" He offered. That would be nice. "Oh no, I'll just walk, it's fine." I smiled at him, not wanting to take yet another favour. "It won't be a problem, I'm probably going the same place you're going," he replied. Huh what? That doesn't even make any sense. "My house is just like a ten minute walk from here, I'm sure I can make it," I replied. Now force me some more so I can say yes. I really don't wanna walk. "That makes it only a five minute drive, I'm sure my car can take it," he replied, not quitting. Okay, offer taken. I pretended to think for a moment before sighing and making my way around his car and sitting inside, in the passenger seat. "See? It's a nice car," he chuckled and I laughed. "Understatement of the century." I said and he laughed before he started driving. - - - - - "So why were you not coming to school since three days?" I asked looking at him just as we pulled into my street. "You noticed," he smirked and it made me blush. "Yeah... I wanted to thank you in person." I replied sheepishly, tucking a strand of my hair behind my ear. "You don't need to thank me for anything. Ever." He replied as he pulled into the driveway of my house. Way to dodging my question. "You're too nice," I smiled at him. "Got a weird reputation, though." "They're just rumors," he said looking into my eyes. "Sure they are," I chuckled, remembering his outburst on Andrew for a girl he didn't even know. "You believe them?" He asked, placing his hand on my knee as tingles erupted where our skins made contact. My eyes slightly widened, not because he made that move but because of the tingles and he quickly removed his hand. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that," he whispered and I shook my head. "No, it's okay. I was just a little startled," I replied and he nodded, visibly relaxing. "So, do you believe the rumors?" He asked. "Well, they say you got a temper. You did lose control on that Andrew guy," I replied, carefully choosing my words, and I noticed how he tensed up. "That guy harassed you, Scarlett." He hissed, and I slightly flinched at his tone. "Yeah, but it's not like you were very close to me or something. I was just a random girl," I replied. "I'm closer to you than I am with anyone else in this world." He muttered, more to himself but I heard him. "What?" I asked, not sure of what that was supposed to mean. "Nothing," he replied almost too quickly. I decided not to push him. "So anyway, thank you for the ride," I smiled and stepped out of the car. "No problem," he replied, smiling back. I went inside and closed the door but didn't move from there till I heard his BMW speeding away. I sighed and turned around, making my way to my bedroom. I lied down on the bed, thinking about what he had said to me. That guy really confused me and made me feel so perplexed about everything. He made me feel so different, without even trying. However my thoughts were cut short when my phone, I don't know how, rang which meant that it had switched on again on it's own. This thing creeps me out at times. I checked to see who was calling and a smile spread across my face seeing Arthur's name flash on the screen. This guy has the most perfect timing in this whole wide world. "Hello?" I said answering his call and placing the phone against my ear. "How's my girl?" He asked, making my smile widen further. "Tired, but happy because she's got an amazing boyfriend," I replied. "So how was school?" He asked. "Axel gave me a ride back in his BMW because this stupid phone decided to switch off right before I was about to call an Uber, and it switched on again on it's own right before you called me," I told him. "Wow, your phone's got amazing timing," he chuckled. "How is Axel? Why wasn't he coming to school for the past three days?" "I don't know, he wouldn't say. He didn't even come today, yet somehow he found me walking home and offered me a ride." "Okay, that's weird. Are you sure that guy is not some psychopath stalker who'll end up killing me because if he can't have you, no one can?" Arthur joked in a fake deep voice and I laughed. "I don't think so," I replied, chuckling. "Phew, I'm glad," he sighed dramatically, just when a thought crossed my mind. I never did tell Axel which house was mine. He knew it already. Crap. - - - - -
