Episode 17: Broken Bridges The following day, Zain met with his family for dinner. The familiar sounds of his mother’s voice filled the air, but his thoughts remained preoccupied with the conversation he’d had with Imran. He had never been one to hide things, especially from his family, but today, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing. “Zain, you’re awfully quiet tonight,” his mother remarked as she passed him a plate of biryani, her eyes narrowing in concern. Zain forced a smile. “Just thinking.” His father, sitting across the table, didn’t seem to notice the shift in the atmosphere. “Thinking about what? The future?” Zain nodded slowly, but it wasn’t just the future he was thinking about. It was everything. All the mistakes, all the paths he had failed to follow, and all the people who had believed in him when he couldn’t believe in himself. After dinner, he walked outside to clear his head. The cool evening breeze ruffled his hair, and for a moment, he stood there, staring up at the starless sky. There was something comforting about the night, something that reminded him that no matter how dark things got, the sun would rise again. But there was no escaping the fact that things had changed. His dreams were no longer just dreams; they were now expectations—expectations that he was terrified of failing. He picked up his phone and dialed Imran’s number.
