4 Anna The next evening, I sat at the assigned round table reserved for members of the wedding party and their guests. White linen covered the table with a centerpiece of pale roses and yellow tulips. Small glass globes filled with water and floating candles were interspersed between the butter dishes and sugar bowls. The room’s west wall was floor-to-ceiling windows, and we were able to enjoy the setting sun behind the mountains. The only other mountains I’d seen were the Alps during my time in Switzerland. The view here was so much different, so arid and rugged, yet equally impressive. The tables were being cleared of the salmon entrée, prior to the toasts by the best man and maid of honor. I was exhausted, my eyes hot and scratchy like sandpaper, having barely slept the night before.
