Roberto kept his older brother busy for the next hour and a half while they waited for Alexa to finish up in the master bedroom with her team of stylists, courtesy of Dante.
Yet another surprise of the many the billionaire had planned for that evening.
Dante’s plan was to spoil Alexa rotten over the next however many hours.
After all, with everything she had been through and for the fact that she was carrying his future first child, she deserved that and more.
The two older Romano brothers happily drank and chatted amongst themselves, both now dressed in expensive designer suits and ready to head off when the time finally came.
Matteo was due to join them when they arrived at their destination, along with the lucky mystery woman he had chosen to accompany him to this evening’s event.
Dante had noticed Matteo’s absences growing more and more in the past couple of weeks and he made a note to keep a close eye on his baby brother.
Not that he believed it would amount to anything.
Perhaps it was purely out of habit.
Pouring himself another glass of his signature drink of scotch on the rocks, Dante listened to his brother chatting from the sofas behind him.
“You ready for this, bro?” the tallest brother taunted the Don with a smirk.
“I was born ready.” the Reaper mused confidently, still with his back to his brother.
“You just had to do it in such a ridiculously massive location, in front of so many people, didn’t you?” Roberto taunted, shaking his head.
“Classie Dante…”
Dante shrugged his broad shoulders innocently.
“What can I say…” he turned around to face his brother with a smug grin spread across his handsome face as he continued.
“When I want something, I don’t mess around.”
Crossing the room to where Roberto was seated on the sofa, Dante handed his brother his choice of drink, a glass of Macallan 40-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch Whiskey.
“Thanks man.” Roberto said smiling as he reached out and took the glass in his large hand.
Roberto seemed to have the more expensive taste of the two of them, with a single bottle of his preferred alcohol selling at just over $40,000!
But hey, a man like him could afford to be picky.
Roberto’s three-piece black Dolce & Gabbana suit donned a black silk dress shirt, a black vest and a black suit jacket over the top of it.
Finally, a stunning crimson red tie appeared to stand out against the rest of his darker clothing like a fine jewel.
His long dark hair had been slicked back and tied neatly behind his head and his beard and facial hair neatly trimmed for this special occasion.
The Reaper on the other hand, wore a stylish Armani three-piece black suit.
The black suit jacket and matching pants were well-complimented by the eggshell white silk dress shirt beneath his black vest and of course, a shiny gold tie to match Alexa’s dress.
After all, the Don wanted tonight to be all about her.
It was her night.
Dante’s short dark hair had been spiked up at the top and his facial hair neatened and trimmed nicely.
He looked every bit the handsome Mafia Don that he was as his emerald-green eyes sparkled with playful mischief.
As Dante sat down with his brother, the Don took a drink from his glass and savoured the warm liquor inside of his mouth for a moment before he finally swallowed it down his throat.
“You got everything for this evening?” Roberto questioned, lifting his brows upward as he eyed his brother.
Dante frowned, not understanding.
“What do you mean?”
“You know… everything?”
Roberto’s expression gestured towards something of great importance and Dante quickly clued onto what he had been referring to.
Alexa’s engagement ring.
“Oh… uh, yeah.”
Dante sat up, leaning forward and reaching into his jacket pocket to grasp at the small black velvet jewellery box he had hidden away inside of it.
Roberto too leaned forwards as he watched his older brother grasp at the Harry Winston embroided box with both hands and carefully open it to reveal the brilliantly dazzling diamond ring secured away inside.
The diamonds sparkled brightly with every tiny movement made by the Don as he held it in his hand, staring down at it with a smile.
The ring held a massive oval-shaped 12 carat diamond right in the centre of it, surrounded by several smaller ones which curved around the white gold band intricately.
No matter how many times he had tried to in the past, Dante couldn’t quite picture this ring on Alexa’s finger just yet.
Perhaps he needed to see her hand to visualise it. Or was he simply needing to see her instead? He couldn’t deny how much he was missing her right now.
Suddenly his nervousness began to stir, and he felt a little uneasy.
“Do you think she’ll like it?” Dante asked his younger brother, seeking nothing but complete honesty within his answer.
Roberto frowned.
“You kidding? Of course she will! Your only problem will be getting her out of there with that thing still on her finger!”
Roberto warned his bigger brother, gesturing with his drink towards the expensive ring that the Don now held in his hand.
“You might need to set up a second task force just for that!”
Dante lifted his left brow at his brother’s sarcastic comment.
“Task Force Ring, we’ll call it.”
Roberto grinned as he went on to taunt his brother in a playful manner.
“They can team up with Alexa’s bodyguards and make it a big team effort-”
“-Oh, shut up!”
Dante finally shot back, cutting in over Roberto as he did.
Rolling his eyes and closing the box, Dante then tucked it away into his jacket pocket once more.
But it only caused Roberto to chuckle deeply with his tiny victory.
Lifting his right hand and glancing at his golden Rolex, Dante noted the time displayed on it.
7:29pm.
They were scheduled to depart at around 8:00pm and he needed to check in on how the women were doing.
Noting the time, Dante was beginning to get concerned.
He hadn’t yet heard anything back from any one of the women since the team of stylists had first arrived, and now, the clock was ticking.
After all, they couldn’t be late to their own event!
That would just be rude.
“Maybe I should go and check in on-”
Dante started to suggest, rising up from his seat and placing his glass down onto the table in front of him.
But Roberto spoke quickly, holding out his hand as he did and cutting in over his brother’s suggestion.
“-What? Where the hell do you think that you’re going, bro? You’re my drinking buddy tonight, remember?” he insisted sternly.
“Now you sit your ass back down and send Nicola up there to check instead.”
Turning to face his brother with a conflicted expression on his face, the Don let out a sigh as he realised that Roberto’s suggestion wasn’t a bad idea after all.
He was meant to be enjoying the night just like everyone else.
With a nod, he sat himself back down and pulled out his phone to send his underboss a quick text message...
‘Nicola, can you check in on the girls. Let them know we’re heading out the door in the twenty minutes. No excuses!’
Once he finished, he hit the ‘send’ button and reached out for his drink before relaxing into his seat once more to enjoy it.
He was the boss… it was time he started acting like it.
As soon as Nicola had received the text, he headed towards the master bedroom from where he was in the sitting room of the penthouse.
He too was dressed in a rather stylish black tuxedo with a white dress shirt underneath and a black bowtie.
The suit worked hard to fight against his bulging muscles with each movement that he made as the well-built man made his way through the apartment in silence.
Finally reaching the bedroom, he stopped at the door where Max, Anthony and Dexter had been left outside while Carmen had been allowed inside.
“Where’s Carmen?” Nicola questioned immediately after noticing her absence.
The men each rolled their eyes as Dexter went on to explain.
“They let her inside. Something about girls only tonight, boss.” he whinged.
“I mean come on, sexist much?”
“Try not to take it to heart, Dexter.” Nicola reminded with a smirk forming at the corner of his mouth as he turned to face the door.
Smiling and shaking his head at the games both Alexa and Willow were playing with Alexa’s male bodyguards of all people, the underboss lifted his hand up and knocked loudly on the door three times.
‘Knock, knock, knock…’
Unfortunately, it was now time for their supposed game to come to an end.
A matter of seconds later and the door opened inwards, allowing Willow to pop her head out through the open crack.
She lifted her gaze upwards to meet the eyes of Nicola Russo and then smiled warmly at him.
“Yeeeesss?” she teased.
It was evident from the glazed-over look in her eyes that perhaps she had been drinking just a little too much champagne.
But he tried not to mention that. Nicola felt that it wasn’t his place to call her out on such things.
Instead, his eyes narrowed as he spoke.
“Boss needs you both down in the main lobby in twenty minutes. No exceptions.” he reported.
Willow frowned at his seriousness, opening the door a little more as she moved her entire body into the open crack of it.
“Nicola, Nicola, Nicola…”
Willow mused playfully, shaking her head from side to side.
“You can't rush perfection.”
Nicola’s smile grew wider now, although it was fake. Perhaps he needed to make himself a little more clear on the seriousness of the matter.
“Either you and Alexa are both down there in twenty minutes, or I’m carrying the two of you out myself.”
Nicola made his warning with both of his brows lifted high onto his forehead; signalling that he wasn’t joking, even in the slightest.
And Willow knew that this massive monster of a man could probably follow through with such a threat.
Maybe it was best not to push her luck in this exact moment.
“Ok, ok… we’re almost ready now anyway… calm down.”
Willow spoke in a huff, waving her hand dismissively as she opened the door all the way and called out to Alexa.
“Hey Lex, you ready to go girl?”
As Nicola lifted his gaze up from Willow towards where Alexa now stood across the room, he froze in a state of wonder at her.
She looked incredible!
“Yeah, I’m just grabbing my purse now.”
Alexa called out as she moved about the room.
The other ladies who had been her team of stylists for the evening each sat around a glass table, each with a glass of champagne in their hand as they happily conversed amongst themselves.
Their job for this evening was over.
Alexa was a stunning masterpiece…
And Nicola could not wait to see his Don’s eyes when he finally set sights on her!
