Building you up

Chapter 6

Chapter 6Tia’s pov

I couldn’t believe Skylar brought me up food so that I ate something. No one other than my sister ever cared enough to do that. I doubt he does this for all his employee’s so is there something more between us? Maybe I was just so emotional I was reading into things to much.

When I called 911 and rushed my nephew to the hospital the last thing, I thought about was calling in to work. I am so glad I have an amazing boss that understands. I can’t afford to lose my job, but I refuse to leave my nephews side. He’s just a baby and he needs me. I am all he has left.

Looking at him with tubes hooked up to his little body makes me feel like I failed him. I have been working so much and leaving him at daycare. I didn’t even realize he was sick. I’m not cut out to be someone’s mother. I always thought I’d be the cool aunt.

Now that we are finally ahead of the bills it’s time, I cut my hours. I hope that Skylar will understand. I need to be here for Deacon more. The doctor came in and checked him over and told me his fever had finally gone down. He also said the medicine they are giving him is working.

I almost hugged the doctor I was so happy. He is one strong little man. The doctor told me he would still be in the hospital a little while longer just so that his lungs become strong again. I didn’t care just as long as I knew he was going to be okay. This beautiful baby boy was all the family I had left.

I called Skylar and told him the good news. He didn’t answer so I just left him a voice mail then went to get me a cup of coffee. When I got down the hall, I saw Skylar heading my way.

“Hey, I just left you a voice mail.”

“Oh, sorry I didn’t hear my phone ring. I brought you some coffee and a snack. Have you heard anything on how he’s doing?”

“Yes, the medicine is working, but he will be here a little while to build up his lungs.”

“Well that’s good news. Don’t worry about a thing I am giving you the next three weeks off paid leave.”

“Skylar I can’t accept that.”

“Nonsense in my company we take care of each other.”

I had to force myself not to cry. This man was simply amazing. I looked up at him and smiled. Once my nephew was okay, I was going to make a move on my very sweet, very sexy boss. I can tell there is something between us I only hope he feels it too.

“I could still do some work from home like order things and such. I need to work.”

“Are you sure?”

“I need to be able to still pay my bills.”

“Tia I would never do you like that. I would help you.”

“I don’t want a handout Skylar I am not afraid of a little hard work. I need to get back to Deacon, but can you email me everything that needs to be ordered. Thank you for everything you have done.”

I had to walk away fast before I broke down crying. He saw me as someone weak that he needed to take care of. Like some charity case. I wasn’t some weak woman and I didn’t need him to take care of me. I know he means well, but it hurt that he thought I couldn’t take care of things on my own. I know I am being silly but for some reason I wanted him to see me as strong.
