CHAPTER ONE 1888Lord Victor Brooke arrived at Windsor Castle feeling like a schoolboy ordered to the Headmaster’s study. He was well aware that he was in disgrace. More significantly, more distinguished and older men than he had trembled before they faced Queen Victoria. It was just bad luck, he thought, that he should have run into trouble.
