“Fifi! It’s the first day of summer break, why did you wake up so early?” I heard Nana’s gentle motherly voice from the bottom of the stairs. She pulls her scarf over her shoulders after securing her bun in place. I walk to her and give her a morning kiss on her cheeks before I go back to the counter and to what I’m preparing.
“I’m used to waking up early, Nana. Besides, Don’t you need my help to prepare for your grandson’s arrival?”
“You mean, Sean?” she pulls out a stool in front of me and leans on the marble.
“Y-yeah… “
“And here I thought I’m the most excited to see his gorgeous face.” The old but still beautiful former Luna teased.
“Nana! I-It’s not that!” The metal mixing bowl reflected my beat red face. “I just want to help you. I know you’ll be preparing his favorite meals all by yourself and no one else is allowed to help you but me, so…”
“So you woke up early to go to the market yourself and get all the ingredients for his favorite apple pie?”
“I-I… I just don’t want you to tire yourself too much. But, how did you know?” Silly me, there’s no way she wouldn’t know of course.
“I checked the stocks last night. I know we didn’t have all this and I know you won’t bother asking any of the omegas to get them.”
I topped the pie with thin slices of apples and pretended I didn’t hear her last words. Even if I want to, none of the Omegas will do as I did. I'm just a human after all.
Nana smiled knowingly, but I saw a flicker of sadness or pity in her eyes before she took the mixture out of my hand and put it in the oven herself. “You still can’t call him by his first name? “
“He forbade me to do that…”
“Oh, silly. Why would you follow him? You can call him by his first name. Or better yet, call him Honey!”
“Nana!” I exclaimed as I felt my face burn he’s the future alpha… I can’t defy him. He’s the future alpha, my future alpha. I should pay him my respect.”
“You can be his Luna too and an Alpha lives for his Queen.” She winked at me while I gasp at the thought. I felt my whole face turn to a tomato.
Oh God, why does she keep on teasing me? Does she know how I feel? Am I too obvious?
“Nana!” I was aghast when I heard the voice that came at the chorus with mine.
Sean… Did he hear Nana’s teasing?
Contrary to my nervousness, Nana’s face brightens up. “Sean! Dear boy, come and give Nana a hug!” she called excitedly.
Sean’s laughter echoed inside the packhouse. It was like music to my ears that I won’t tire of hearing. If only he’d laugh more…
I throw him a side glance and saw him giving Nana a tight hug as he lifts her up to the air. When his eyes landed my way and our eyes meet, I automatically lower my head and quickly pick up all the mess in the counter.
I will have a heart attack if he goes on looking at me like that.
“Hmmm. Do I smell apple pies? Did you make this for me, Nana?” he walked to the table where I’ve set two lids of finished pies to cool down.
“Oh I wish but it’s not me. I woke up late, but Fifi here got it covered. You should try it. She makes it better than I do!”
“Really?” He throws a glance back at me and my heart made a summersault.
“Y-yes…”
Nana brought him a plate and a spoon and gave him a slice. But before Sean can take it, Gregory grabs it before him. He picks up the slice and ate it whole.
“Oh, God! I thought I smelled something heavenly!” His words were barely audible as he speaks with his mouth full. “God, Felicity! Marry me already! I won’t mind if you feed me this apple pie every single day!” he went on as he grabs another slice.
I couldn’t help but giggle at his antics while Nana looked at him amused as well. Both of them had grown tall and strong with just a year past. And yes, hotter and hunkier. But even as best friends, they are visibly different from each other. Gregory is the carefree type. He’s loud and flirty and loves to tease, whereas Sean is the serious type. He's observant and rarely smiles making him look more mysterious and girls love mysterious guys.
So do I.
“I’m not kidding Fifi! I can live with your apple pies!” he even put his arms around my shoulders and wink at me. I punch his chest jokingly but was still laughing. “Stop it, Gregory!”
“Yeah, stop it, dude. My beta can’t marry a human. She can’t even protect herself. What is she gonna do if rogues attack? Throw pies at them?”
“Sean!” Nana exclaimed.
What’s his problem? I thought. I felt Gregory’s strong arms tighten around my shoulders as he pulls me towards his chest.
“She doesn’t need to be strong. I can protect her.” He announced as if he really means it. I know he’s just messing around with Sean, but when I look his way, he had his jaws tensed and his lips in a thin line.
“Whatever. I’m going upstairs to rest, for now, Nana,”
“Aren’t you going to eat first?”
I caught him glimpse back to me and Gregory who was then told me his adventures from college. “I lost my appetite.” he turns his back at us leaving me thinking how much he really hates the idea of his best friend marrying a failure like me.

I let the water from the faucet flow along with my memories. I don’t think I ever had any memory of him not ending in me feeling I did something terribly wrong. Having him near me brings back a lot of the past I thought I’ve forgotten.
It’s been a week since I started working as Sean’s secretary. He’s still as serious and dedicated as ever. A workhorse as I’ve always known him to be one. He didn’t bother me after the incident in the elevator. We just worked. That’s it, plain and simple.
I wish!
I sighed in frustration because no it’s not as simple as that at all. How can working with the person you used to love for years be easy? Every time I see him, I feel like I’m going to have a heart attack. He’s always been tall, and fairly built but time sure has been good to him. His shoulders are broader, his muscles more solid, and perfectly sculpted. And he didn’t even have to remove his clothes for me to know.
That man is every woman’s dream guy. His forest green eyes alone make all the women in the office stop on their tracks and hold their breath for a mere split second that seems like an eternity. It gives you the feeling like you’re being sucked up in a black hole with a promise of unending pleasure. I know, I use to do so too; or I still do.
Even thinking about it makes me blush.
Strong angular jaw, sexy shaped lips, and a prominent nose that harmoniously come together to create a work of art. If gods are true, he’s no doubt one of them.
But if he was a god, he’d probably be the most ill-tempered one. Since the incident, numerous people I know got fired. Actually, almost the whole department who saw the elevator incident got replaced. Even poor Luis.
Why? Because they didn’t know Sean can hear them gossiping about us.
The idea of him not wanting people talking about me would’ve made my heart melt if only I didn’t know better. It was all for him. To protect his name because obviously, he didn’t want anyone from home to know that he’s being linked to me, the good for nothing embarrassment of the pack. No, it isn’t just me overthinking, he said so himself.
Thank goodness when it comes to working, he doesn’t really have any qualms about my job. I am a fast learner and being in this company for so long made me feel at ease even when my co-workers now try to not get in my way. It’s saddening, cause I kind of feel like I went back to my old self whom people try best to avoid, but it has its perks too. For one, I don’t have to wait in line at the cafeteria because they insist that I just wait for my meal to be delivered on my table.
Who am I fooling? It’s not fun being alone. Soon after, I decided to just eat in my own cubicle. I don’t want anyone else getting fired just because I can’t stop people from talking especially when they see me,
I sigh heavily when my phone rang. It’s Sean of course.
“Where are you? Come here now.”
“I’m in the ladies’ room. I’ll be there quickly.” I stared at my phone when he didn’t answer. He cut the call without as much as a reply.
“Ugh! If only I don’t love this company, I don’t think I can last another day with this psycho!” I fixed my hair and retouched my powder before I went out of the comfort room.
“Goodness! What are you doing here, Sir?” I manage to cover my mouth and suppress my scream. What the heck is he doing in front of the ladies’ room?
He simply raises one thick eyebrow at me, his face dead serious.
What is it now? Oh, f**k! Did he hear what I said? I unconsciously bit my lips knowing I’m in trouble if he did hear it.
“To my office, now.” He said then turned before I can say another word.
I sigh and follow him silently. My heads hang low thinking how I’d get punished this time.
Last time, he made me segregate a ton of files from each and every employees’ performance record and made me produce a report before five pm just because he caught me roll my eyes at him.
How can I not when he’s obviously been flirting with that manager Monica? Talk about not dating an employee. Hmmph!
I want to roll my eyes again, but stop myself before I cautiously look at his direction.
Phew! I wonder what he wants from me that he has to go all the way to the ladies’ room to fetch me.
We reached his office but before I was able to open the door for him, it burst open and came a shriek.
“Babe!”
Babe? Heck, don’t tell me it’s…
Before I can confirm who the owner of the familiar voice is, she had already thrown herself to him and crushed her lips to his and one torrid kiss.
