Chapter 14: Whispers

1181 Words
I went inside the campus and was greeted by tons of students who were either on the field or walking around probably trying to get to their classes. It was a little early and my class would start soon but I still have time to walk around and find my seat. i am taking differently classes today than my schedule yesterday. It’s kind of a different schedule when you’re in college and I still need time to get used to that. I was looking at my schedule when I heard someone calling out my name. I turned around to see Max behind me. He was smiling as he approached me while doing what looked like a half jog. I smiled as well. I didn’t expect to be bumping again with him on the second day; after all this is a huge university. I guess it’s really still a small world after all. “Hi,” He said when he was inches away from me. He looked fresh and neat seem as yesterday when I first met him. “Hey,” I responded with a smile as well. I don’t want him to think that I am rude or something. “Glad to see you again,” He said. “Early class?” “Urgh, as if you have to say it,” I laughed a little. “If it makes you comfortable then I feel the same way. I mean, why would they schedule early classes, right? I don’t get it.” He laughed off. I know he was trying to loghten the mood around and he was successful at that. “It did made me feel a little better, thank you for that,” I chimed in with his joke. Actually, it’s nice to have someone around whom I can be silly with. I mean, most of the students here are really not that friendly. I’m just thankful for Max’s presence. “You’re silly, just like me,” He said. “Well, that’s me,” I said and laughed. “Anyway, how was your victory party last night?” “It was actually fine,” He said. “But you know, just like the usual victory parties; you should have joined us. Then it would have been more fun,” “Nah, I’m not really into parties,” I shook my head slightly. “I’m not used to it,” “Yeah, that’s what I figured already,” He said. A moment of silence passed by and I thought of that as a cue to excuse myself and get to my class. “I-I have to go, don’t want to be late of the first meeting,” I said as I motioned to the business building. “Yeah, sure,” He nodded. “Want me to help you find your classroom?” “Uhm, actually, there’s no need for that,” I politely declined. “I saw this room number yesterday and I think I got it from here.” “Oh, alright,” He nodded. “Have fun!” “Thanks,” I said. “And you too,”, I smiled. I’m not really expecting too much from my classes here when it comes to having fun. I just wanted to study and do ny best in getting to what I came here for. I waved at him and headed to our college building so I can get to class before my professor comes in. I saw the room number which I saw yesterday and looked if there were students already and there were. I went in and looked for a vacant seat. I was scanning the entire room when I saw a familiar face, Dale. Wait, he’s in the same class with me again? Oh, what are the odds! I saw a vacant chair beside him but I don’t think it’s good to sit at the back during classes. It makes me feel like I wouldn’t learn a thing from back there since I sometimes teachers tend to have soft voices He raised a brow at me. I didn’t know what that meant but I shrugged it off. “Good morning class,” I heard a middle-aged woman speak behind me which made me move and walked towards the closest vacant chair. It was just in the third row. I sat down and prepared for an hour and a half of lectures. The professor told everyone to settle down which we all did. I heard someone cleared his throat and seated beside me. I glanced sideways so I can see who it was. I furrowed my brows when I saw Dale beside me. He was smiling like an i***t. “What are you doing?” I whispered since the the class rules were being discussed out front. “Well, you’re a hard girl to sit beside with,” He muttered with his eyes looking out front. “What?” I said. I didn’t get it. He wanted to sit next to me, really? I know we hang out well last night and that made us friends already, I guess. Well, I’ve got no problem with him sitting beside me though. “Ssshh,” He stopped me. His eyes were still focused on the discussion in front of us. I shook my head slightly. I didn’t take him as the serious type when it comes to hi academics. I just let it go and listened to the discussion as well. I sighed. I think this will be one of those boring classes that I would have to survive until the semester ends. I yawned in the middle of the middle of the discussion. It was really boring to talk about tax and economies. “Why are you sleepy? Slept late last night?”” I heard Dale spoke beside me. Oh, if only he knew! I was overwhelmed with what happened yesterday that it kept me awake thinking about how my first day went through. “Just... not used to my new room,” I lied. My apartment was really great and comfortable to live in. Actually, I got used to it already since I came in there a few days back trying to familiar and see what I would be needing while I stay there. “Oh, really,” He said. Our voices were too soft; more of like whispers. “Yeah,” I said while my eyes were still glued to the board even though I have a feeling that it would fall anytime soon. “Why were you with Max again earlier?” He asked out of nowhere. How did he know that? “Max?” I said. “How did you know? Are you like a spy now? Do you have eyes everywhere?” “Oh, never mind I asked,” He said and then closed his notes. The discussion was over and we were dismissed s little earlier than scheduled. I raised a brow when he glanced at me. “What is your problem?” I asked while laughing. He suddenly turned grumpy.
