Chapter 6: Rules

Khloe's P.O.V. *********************** "Me?" I asked. "Not Ava?" "That's right dear." Jan replied with a huge grin. I scoffed as I tried to find the words. What the hell? Why me? Why this at all? "Why me? Or any of us, for that matter? You'd have to teach me everything from scratch. Why not just pass the reigns down to someone within this.. company.. that you trust? It doesn't make much sense to me to be doing this. And why the fu.ck would you even kidnap me in the first place?" I asked. Jan smiled brightly at me, but didn't say anything. I raised a brow at him. "I certainly hope you didn't think I wasn't going to have questions," I said. Jan laughed. "This is why it must be you!" he said as he jumped to his feet. Jan came around his desk, and grabbed my shoulders. "You have no fear," he said. "Moglbym wzbudzic w niej strach." Someone muttered behind me. (I could strike fear in her.) I don't know what he said, but I do know that strach means fear in Polish. The smile fell from Jan's face. He looked past me at whoever had spoken. I turned my head to glare at the men behind me. "Jebane kutasy." I muttered, but loud enough for everyone to hear. (Fu.cking pricks.) I turned back to Jan as he started to laugh. "You know our language already," he said happily. "Well," I said. "I only know a few things that my mom said growing up. Mostly cuss words." Jan inspected me for a moment. "I see," he said thoughtfully. What's with that look? "Anyhow, I chose you because you're the first person in a very long time to impress me within the first few minutes of meeting. You also remind me much of my little brother. I have also found out some.. information about Ava, and her.. addiction." Jan said as he raised his brows at me. "Don't give me that look. I didn't put the needle in her arm," I said. "Yes, well, I do not mind having to teach you everything from scratch. It's most important to me that this stays in the family. I want my blood to keep the legacy going. I will not pass over the reigns, as you say, to just anyone, Khloe." Jan stated sternly. "Okay, and the kidnapping?" I asked. Jan looked passed me to glare at the men behind me. "That wasn't my intention, I assure you dear. My boys sometimes think that they are just doing what's best for me. They mean well, and they wouldn't have harmed you." Jan told me. "How could you be so sure?" I asked. Jan's eyes hardened as he stared at the boys. "Because I would have killed them." He stated dangerously. "Well, they weren't exactly nice. Can you at least beat them for me?" I asked. Jan looked up at me with a shocked expression. One that slowly turned amused. "You are funny." He said, laughing. "I'm not joking." I said, laughing with him. "Ah.. I will not. Not this time. If they do it again, you let your favorite uncle know," Jan said. "Does family really mean that much to you?" I asked him. Jan nodded. "Of course," he said. "Family is everything." I must have made a confused expression without thinking. "Why?" Jan asked. "You seem to be taken aback by that." "You want an honest answer?" I asked. Jan nodded. "Not one person in my family has ever cared before. They're all selfish a.ssholes with no morals. None of them ever treated me like family. Yet, all of them were apparently related to you. That makes me apprehensive," I told him. "Ahh, I see." Jan replied with sad eyes. "Things changed a lot when your Jaja died. He was the glue that held a lot of the family together. When he died.. Well, not even I talk too much of the family. That is also why I wanted one of his grandchildren. Also, why you are perfect." I guess the only question left is.. Do I believe him or not? "So, what exactly is going to happen from here?" I asked. I'm not sure I really have the choice in this. If I said no, I doubt I would just be dropped back off at home. Even if I was.. Would that mean they would go after Celia next? Would they go out to find Ava? I can't let any of that happen. As much as I would love Ava to be anywhere else than where she is.. I think that she will get herself killed here within a month. I can't let them get to Celia and Emmet. Those two are in college. They have plans now. I can't let these goons fu.ck their lives up. That means I'm going to have to say yes to this. If I want to protect my siblings.. I guess this is what I have to do. I opened the file, and started to read as Jan started to talk. "Well, we will give you time to wrap things up here. About a week, no more than 10 days. I have business to get back to. Then we will go to Poland, to my home. I have a very large house there. Half of it has been renovated into its own seperate house. That is where you will stay with four of my men." Jan explained. So, I have to become a Poland citizen then as well. That's also in this contract. Which means I'll have to keep in mind the time difference when working on my deadlines. "Andrzej will be in charge of everything. All of your lessons, meals, and other day-to-day things. He is my most trusted guard, and knows what he's doing." Jan said. Okay cool. There is also a section of the contract that says I will be taking business classes. I guess that makes sense. "Bazyli will be in charge of your lessons. Both business and language. He isn't here right now, he's in Poland." Jan told me. "Szymon and Kacper will be the last two. They are my strongest and smartest guards. You'll be protected with them." "Oh," I laughed. "Yeah, totally protected with the men who kidnapped me," I said sarcastically. "I know you were off to a rough start, but you will be spending a lot of time with the four of them. It will do you good to get along," Jan said. "As long as they listen to what I say, we should be fine," I said. Then I looked up at Jan. "I am in charge, right?" I asked. Jan smirked. "Of course you are," he replied. "Well, then, I hope your men are good at knowing their place," I stated. Jan chuckled. "You.. You are going to be trouble." He said, wagging a finger at me. "I love it." I smiled back at him. "Well, I will give you the night to think abut it. If you have more questions, we can discuss that during break-" "No thanks." I said, interrupting him. "No?" Jan asked. "I don't need more time," I said. "I'll do it. But I have some conditions of my own." I sat down in the chair that's been next to me this whole time. I tossed the file onto the desk. Jan raised a brow at me. "Alright, let's here it." He said. "One, I want to be able to do my work still. I'll work around your schedule, but I need access to my laptop and the internet," I said. "What is your job?" Jan asked. "I'm an author. I write books. I have a contract with a company in New York. I have deadlines that I need to get done." I told him. "I see you've made something for yourself. Well done kotku!" he said proudly. I blushed. He sounded so proud. Did he just call me little cat? "Of course we will allow that. Andrzej can help you move things around if need be. What else?" Jan asked. "I want Celia and Emmet's college completely paid for," I said. "I make a lot of money, but they still have to work part-time jobs for everyday things. I want their schooling paid for. I'll handle the rest. They can quit their jobs, and just focus on school." I said. "Celia and Emmet.. The youngest of you," Jan said. "Yes," I stated. "And I don't want them to know about this at all. They don't need to worry," I said. Jan leaned back in his seat. "Deal." He said. "I also want help selling my mom's house. I want to sell it all after my siblings go through it. Then I want to get Celia and Emmet an apartment close to their school. That's not going to be easy for me to manage alone with everything else," I said. "That should be easy enough," Jan said. "Sounds like we have a deal." "One more thing," I said. Jan raised a brow at me. "I want you to help me find Ava before I leave. I want you to kidnap her. I want you to do whatever it is you have to do, to force her to get clean. I want her sent to a rehab or something that she can't leave. And I want the man who she's currently dating to never be able to find her again." I stated. Jan smirked. "Done." He said. Jan held his hand out to me. I stared at it for a brief moment before taking it firmly in my own. Then we shook on it. I feel like I just signed my soul to the devil.
