Morning came with clear skies and sun but no sign of Johnny. This time, Daddy and Cullen couldn’t keep the worry out of their voices and George had no words to comfort them. Daddy retrieved the boar he killed earlier from where he had stuffed it into the refrigerator and set off to butcher it. George was too squeamish to help him so he opted to join Cullen in the garden. Much work needed to be done since the rain day before. The heat and humidity before the storm returned with a vengeance. The sun beat down on the drenched soil, making the air feel like a steam bath.
