Addison’s POV
“Who was that following you home?” my mom chirped from the front yard as she peeked her head over a bush.
“Jesus Christ mom!” I exclaimed as I put my hand over my heart. “You scared me half to death!”
“Oh,” she chuckled. “I am so, so sorry about that honey,” she laughed. “Now back to my question please.”
“Just a boy I met,” I said as I walked over to her.
“And where did you meet him?” she questioned.
“What’s with the questions mom? Are you going to report back to dad?” I asked slowly.
“Nonsense!” she smiled. “I just want to know about my daughter’s life.”
“And dad?” I questioned, folding my arms over my chest.
“Your dad is overprotective and has no need to know about everything and that includes this,” my mom smiled. “I’m sorry,” she suddenly said.
“Sorry for what?” I asked and looked at her.
She had her hands in her lap and looked down just like I normally did when I was nervous. It was a habit I had gotten from her when I was very young.
“It can’t be easy for you to live here when your family are who they are,” she said slowly. “And for that I am sorry.”
“Mom…” I sighed and took her hand. “I love my family. Sure, we fight, and I disagree with Damien and dad a lot, but I love them dearly and I wouldn’t change that for anything in the world.”
“I’m glad honey,” she smiled. “Just know that if anything happens or if you ever need someone to talk to, I am right here.”
“Thank you, mom,” I smiled and got up. “I got homework, but I will come down for dinner,” I said before I turned around.
I just got to my room when my phone vibrated. Thinking it was Gabby who called like always I picked up without looking at the ID.
“You know, I love you and all, but I barely made it home before you called,” I snickered through the phone.
“Love me? I guess I overdid it a little with my charm,” Mika’s voice said on the other side.
“s**t I am so, so sorry about that!” I exclaimed as I mentally face palmed myself. “I thought you were Gabby,” I said.
I was so happy that he wasn’t here to see the red shade my face had gotten.
“Don’t worry about it,” he chuckled. “And you don’t need to blush.”
“I-I am not blushing! I just didn’t expect you to call,” I admitted. “At least not so soon.”
“Did I interrupt you in anything?”
“No not at all,” I sighed as I sat down on my bed. “Just got to my room.”
“Good,” he said before everything went silent. “I just wanted to ask you if I should pick you up on Monday?” he asked in a shy voice.
“I would like that,” I smiled.
The idea of seeing him again after the weekend made me happy. It was a feeling I hadn’t had in a while and even though I had just met him, something made me feel like I had known him for quite some time.
“Good, I will pick you up around 8,” he said. “See you.”
“See you,” I said with a smile and hung up.
I only got to put my phone down before it vibrated again.
“Hello?” I asked.
“Why the hell was the line occupied?” Gabby’s voice spoke through the phone. “You know I always call now,” she said clearly sounding unhappy.
“Yeah sorry,” I chuckled at her dramatic way to say hello. “It was Mika.”
“What did he want?” she asked.
Even though I couldn’t see her, I could feel her smirk through the phone.
“He wanted to ask if he should pick me up Monday morning,” I said with joy.
“Good for you girl!” she said. “What are you going to do now?”
“The homework we got in math,” I sighed. “It’s not making itself.”
“Ugh, but how I wish it did,” she said. “You’re right though. I should get to it before my dad comes home too. Are we still going out tomorrow?” she asked.
“Of course! I promised you, besides Uncle Dario is completely okay with it,” I assured her.
“Yeah, well it is not your uncle I am worried about,” Gabby chuckled. “It is your dad.”
“I will convince him, don’t worry,” I said before looking at the time. “I’ve got to go. I will talk to you tomorrow.”
“See you girl,” she said and hung up.
She was right. The one to be worried about was my dad. There was no way he would allow me to go, but what would the harm be in asking anyway. We just had a talk about him not treating me as a kid, so the possibility of him saying yes was actually bigger than it normally was and that was a chance I would not let pass by.
I went to bed quickly after I had finished the homework. My dad would be at the club with Uncle Dario right now, which meant that I had to wait until tomorrow to talk to him. I kept begging in my head for him to say yes, pleading as if some unknown power would hear me and grant my wish. It was stupid and I knew that considering that there was no way that it helped, but I had done that since I was a kid, and back then, it did work so maybe, just maybe it would this time too.
I rolled on my side, closed my eyes and began to drift off just as I got a message that sent a vibration through the entire bed.
‘Sleep tight and sweet dreams,’ the text said.
‘You too Mika,’ I texted back.
I couldn’t explain it, but there was a feeling inside of me whenever he was around. A feeling that told me that he was special. That he wasn’t like the rest, and so far, my feeling was right. He most definitely wasn’t like most of the idiots I knew. Then again, I was a quick judge of character and because of that alone, I needed to be extra careful so I wouldn’t get burnt. It was yet another trait I had gotten from my mom. I always saw the good in people and went along with that until the minute they proved me wrong.
What I thought was my alarm, woke me up at the crack of dawn. To my surprise, it turned out to be Gabby who was calling me like a crazy person.
“Hey girl!” she basically screamed through the phone.
“Gabby?” I spoke in a sleepy voice trying to force my eyes to open. “Do you have any idea what time it is right now?” I asked with a frown.
“Yeah, it is almost time for my Yoga class,” she snickered.
“That is not what I meant, and you know it,” I said as I rolled my eyes at her.
“I know,” she chuckled. “Have you talked to your dad yet?”
“No, he was at the club yesterday to make sure that everything went according to plan so I will talk to him later today,” I said. “Now let me sleep goddammit,” I chuckled before I hung up.
Sometimes she was a bit much and today was one of those times. Not that I blamed her. I was just as excited as she was. This was the first time we would get to go out together in a safe environment without anyone telling me no. Well, if my dad agreed to it, that was.
I tried closing my eyes and falling back asleep, but after a few minutes of tossing and turning, I knew that that wasn’t an option.
“Ugh, heaven’s sake Gabby” I groaned as I flipped my legs over the bedside and walked to the bathroom.
I turned on the cold water and took a quick shower to wake up properly before I got dressed and headed for the kitchen.
Surprisingly Damien was awake and sat on one of the chairs in the kitchen with a cup of coffee.
“Good morning,” I said as I walked to the fridge.
“Not anymore,” he said and got up.
