Agnes shrugged her shoulders and replied indifferently: "You can say no, as long as you don’t mind losing face."
"It this a threat?" Ryan narrowed his eyes and shot a cold glance at Agnes, "Agnes, for 20 years we’ve known each other. I thought you would have known me by now, even if you don't have feelings for me."
He was not someone who would take threats.
Agnes looked back at him with a faint smile: "Ryan, I thought you would have known me after these 20 years, even if you do have feelings for me."
Ryan knitted his eyebrows and fell into silence.
Agnes sighed: "It’s up to you. It all depends on what you want."
"You know what I want." Ryan looked at her meaningfully.
Agnes replied: "And you know what I want."
She knew Ryan would eventually compromise for her sake.
In her previous life, he was the one in charge, and she was forced to accept everything arranged for her. But the truth was he had compromised again and again.
After a long pause, Ryan abruptly stood up and said coldly: "I can let Malcom off as you want, but Agnes, you know what I want in return."
Agnes softened at these words. She sighed gently, the sharpness in her eyes replaced by guilt.
"I’ll never do anything to hurt you again. I promise."
In the previous life, she hurt him too deeply. In this life, she would do everything in her power to make it up to him, and to be there for him. Ryan was amazed by her sudden tenderness. He had longed and longed for it. Now that it was there, he found it hard to believe.
After a long pause, Ryan barely managed to calm his flipping heart and helped Agnes up: "It’s getting cold. We should get back inside."
Agnes looked up at him and pouted: "My head aches. I don't want to walk."
Ryan frowned, looked around and said to her: "Wait here."
"Where are you going?"
"To fetch a wheelchair." Ryan headed towards the inpatient building as he said this.
"Come back!" Agnes pulled a long face and shouted grumpily.
Ryan didn't stop. He looked back to soothe her: "I'll be back soon."
"Ryan! You nerd!” Agnes didn’t know whether to laugh or cry: "I meant you could carry me on your back."
She knew she shouldn't expect anything from him.
If this wolfish man had any romance in him, she wouldn’t have fallen for Malcom’s sugar-coated promises.
Seeing Agnes pucker up her pretty face, Ryan couldn’t believe his ears.
Did she just ask him to carry her on his back?
Huh, she must be trying to please him so that he would let Malcom off.
Ryan lifted the corner of his mouth in a sneer: "Are you sure? That would make your head hurt more."
"Carry me in your arms, then."
Agnes was almost struck dumb by this nerd.
Ryan eyed her suspiciously: "Are you sure?"
Agnes rolled her eyes, and turned her back on him. She didn't bother with a reply.
Ryan then stepped forward and carried her up in his arms.
Agnes leaned her head against his chest, carefully avoiding the wound. She put her ams around his neck and talked in a low voice.
"Walk slowly. I’ll be angry if you make my wound hurt!"
Her voice reached him as clear as a bell, pettish and yet somehow adorable.
Ryan's heart flipped. He tightened his arms around her and headed towards the inpatient building unhurriedly.
Agnes took out her phone and texted Miranda: "Mom, when are you coming?"
"I’m already on my way. Ten minutes at most."
Agnes shook her phone and said to Ryan: "I'll go to work in Gilbert Group as soon as I get better. But Ryan, you’re gonna have to teach me. I don't know anything about it.”
Hearing these words, Ryan lifted the corner of his mouth in a sneer.
Almost everybody knew that Miss Gilbert had failed in every class except music, gym and drawing classes.
He donated a library to Elite University, so that she could go there as an art student and get a college diploma.
"What are you sneering at?" Agnes hit Ryan grumpily.
Ryan immediately lowered his eyes, and said gravely: "I won't let anything happen to you, I promise."
"That's about it!" Agnes pouted.
Ryan shook his head, and the corners of his mouth lifted subconsciously. A warm and tender smile appeared on his face when he didn’t know it.
When they came out of the elevator, they saw Flora standing outside Agnes’ ward, craning her neck.
