Chapter 2: Carol's POV

1720 Words
I look ridiculous. I hate wearing skirts, and now I have to wear a freaking pencil skirt. I’m going to kill Allen once I am done with this mission. The least he could do was find clothes of my freaking size. It is not that hard. I have curves, for f***s sake! I was trying to fix this ridiculous outfit when I heard a soft knock on the door. “Come in!” I yelled and finally closed the blazer that matched my mocha skirt. Even the color was awful, and the cut was all wrong. Where did he get these clothes? I have beautiful dark skin; I should wear bright colors to make it pop even more, not something as dull as this! There are some beige colors that would look beautiful, but Allen had to go for the most horrendous. If Allen was hoping the Beta would glance at me with these stupid clothes, he was in the wrong. If he did look at me, he would look and probably laugh. He had never been seen with a woman; that is why Allen thought he was the weakest link, but I had my doubts. Next time I am buying my stuff, Allen clearly can’t be trusted with this. His taste is all wrong. I had to make the Beta fall in love with me, but I had doubts. It seemed Jace was waiting for his mate, which was weird. Most werewolves don't; they have different girlfriends, and they are set aside when they find their mate. Aleksi came into my room, and when she saw me, she had to contain her laughter. She always sees me in comfortable clothes. I wear skirts and dresses, but they are better than this; they compliment my figure instead of making me look ridiculous. I rolled my eyes and fixed the skirt one last time. I have a huge butt, so this thing looks more like a miniskirt from behind. Ugh! I look ridiculous. “Don’t say a word, Aleksi; I swear to God, if you say something, I will smack you hard,” I threatened as I fixed my makeup one last time. She lifted her fingers to mimic as if she had closed her lips with a zipper. “Let’s get this over with. Are you driving me?” I asked, but she shook her head. “Solo mission; I came because you should leave now if you want to make it on time,” she reminded me. I looked at my watch and noticed it was already seven thirty, meaning I was already late. “s**t,” I mumbled as I grabbed my purse and car keys. I quickly dashed to my car. I could hear Aleksi telling me to eat something before I left, but there was no time. The traffic in the city was… I hated it, and if I didn’t get to my car now, I wouldn’t be there by eight. I started the engine and got out as quickly as I could. I need to land this job, or else I won’t be able to get near the Beta. ————————————————— “Your curriculum is outstanding, Carol,” I was being interviewed by a forty-year-old woman with short light brown hair and dark brown eyes. Werewolves tend to look younger, so I am guessing she is human. The small wrinkles beside her eyes gave it away. However, she looked great for her age. She seemed friendly, but throughout the interview, she was professional and made sure to compliment my supposed working experience. “Thank you, Miss Carlisle. I know you will value my expertise. As you can see, I have worked for other CEOs, and I’m sure I will be a great asset here,” I said politely with a smile on my face. They were all lies. I have never been a secretary, but of course, Allen had prepared the perfect cover for me to get the job. He was great at creating alibis. I could be the freaking president if he wanted to. He always found a way; he pays off whoever is necessary to make our stories believable. That’s why I love Allen, why I am safe with him, and why I listened to what he had to say. He is an old fox, and age gives you contacts. Allen is the best of the best, and because she trained me, I am the only one who can finish jobs that seem impossible. “I can see that. We will call you today, so don’t worry,” she said and winked, so I replied with a giggle. As I walked to the elevator, I smelled something delicious. It was as if someone had brought a recently baked lemon pie. If I wasn’t supposed to act all professional, I would have already started knocking on doors to see who decided to bring such a delicious dessert to an office. I couldn’t help it; I love sweets. I groaned; now I was hungry. Before returning home, I had better find a nice place and buy a delicious lemon pie. One thing that can get me in a bad mood is not getting the food I want the moment I want, especially if I’m ovulating. It is not the case, but the necessity is the same. “What is taking so long?” I mumbled to myself as I waited for the elevator. I was already in a bad mood, and the fact that the elevator seemed to be taking a freaking vacation didn’t help with my crankiness. “Mr. Hills, are you okay?” I heard a female voice speak from behind me. When I turned around I saw the most gorgeous guy I had ever seen. He was tall, like super tall, at least 6ft 9 or something like that, with the body of a freaking God, ripping muscles everywhere that could be seen through his suit, gorgeous olive skin that looked spotless, two mesmerizing green eyes, a square jaw that could cut bricks covered with a well-trimmed beard and long curly hair that was styled all the way back. Wait… did she say, Mr. Hills? If that was the case then this was the man I was supposed to kill, he was Jace Hills, my target. Jace was the one who managed all the businesses in town. Killian stays in the pack with his other Beta. Yes, he has two Betas. The pack is so big that they decided to have two of them, and before me was the King’s brother. I saw how his eyes widened when he saw me, and I think I saw him mouth something, but I couldn’t understand what it was. Why do I find him so intriguing? Is the smell of lemon pie getting stronger? Stop it, Carol. Focus. You only have six months starting today to end his life, and from his looks, it won’t be easy. The man is well-built. I have had to fight different warriors from different species, but never someone who was so buff. Now I understand why he is Beta and related to the Alpha King, meaning he is an Alpha himself. All about him shouts power. It is as if it came of him in waves. But that was impossible; it only seemed that way because he was huge. You can do this, you are a hunter, he is only a job. I heard something snarl inside me, which was weird, but I didn’t have time to dwell on the matter because the man approached me. He walked with such confidence that everyone turned their heads, and for a reason that nagged me. “Everything is fine, Andrea. Thank you,” he said to the woman who had asked him if he was okay, but his eyes never left mine. He stared at me with such intensity… “Did you come for the interview?” He asked with a low, sexy voice. It made me shiver with only his voice. Damn it. “Yes, sir. I was told I would be called today; I was only waiting for the elevator,” I explained in a professional voice. I was on the job and knew how to act accordingly, even if my body and mind wanted to betray me. Everything inside me told me to jump over him. “Call me Jace,” he said with a smile, which made him ten times more handsome. How am I supposed to focus on the job? “And you got it; no need for you to wait.” What? I got the job? Perhaps Allen’s outfit choice wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I stood there dumbfounded. My brain wasn’t processing things as fast as it would. Jace waited patiently for me to reply while I embarrassed myself. Wonderful. Great. Amazing. You are doing a great job, Carol. “Thank you, sir,” finally! I managed to find my voice. “Thank you for the opportunity.” His smile widened, and I felt my heart stop. I have never felt so attracted to a person before. It was as if something was calling me—a magnetic pull of sorts. “Jace, call me Jace,” he insisted. “Thank you, Jace,” I said, and again, my heart skipped a beat for some strange reason. Why was I so attracted to him? I knew werewolves were handsome; I had seen his photos in the file, but they didn’t do him justice. He looked a thousand times better in person. “It’s nice to meet you-“ he paused. “Carol,” “Carol, such a beautiful name for a pretty lady,” he said. The way my name rolled off his tongue… I’m in trouble, in deep, deep trouble. I can’t fall for the person I am supposed to kill, I shouldn’t feel this way, I shouldn’t let myself feel this way. He is just a job. I only need to make him fall for me, and then I can learn his weaknesses. “No, you won’t,” a voice snarled at me from inside. What the f**k?! Am I losing my mind?!
