Chapter Six July Two 12:30 A.M. “Stop pacing, man,” said Baron. “You’re making me nervous.” They were in a storage building on the edge of town. “Hotels all full up,” the Asian girl had said by way of explanation, just before she dropped them off here and promised to return momentarily with her “numba one gull”. With the Asian jabbering directions to the driver, a cab had delivered them to this warehouse through a maze of dimly lit streets with broken pavement. The hotel district downtown had been a glittering facade of fountains and gardens that had been carefully maintained to reassure the tourists, a staged paradise, clean and safe.
