Book 1: Chapter 6 - Knowing Her Identity

1639 Words
Zephyrus’ POV I sneaked into my enemy’s room, not intending to kill her but to end the confusion driving me crazy. Who was she? Where was she all this while? Why didn’t the pack members know her well if she was the chosen Luna of the pack? These were questions that flitted through my mind since my encounter with her last night on the battlefield. All I caught on was her name, Lena Warrick, but it didn’t ring a bell. I didn’t know of anyone by that surname in Lucania! So was she from the Whiteridge Pack? I was certain that she was from our enemy pack. Why else would she escape to the enemy territory? Maybe she was returning home! Mad with fury, I wanted to punish her, but first I had to be certain. However, the moment I entered her room, her sweet scent seeped into my system. I was suddenly aware of the escalating warmth bubbling within me, seeking a vent to erupt. They gave rise to many urges, so fiery, I had no control over them anymore. The need to mark her, take her, mate her, and fill her with my seed when she went into heat was all I could think of. These were so unfamiliar feelings, they had me totally confused. Why couldn’t I fight these urges? Why couldn’t I punish her for escaping me? ‘She’s so beautiful!’ Zeus swooned at the sight of her curled up in her bed. I had to agree to that. Her hair, left sprawled over the pillow, cast a halo around her perfect heart-shaped face. Her long curled lashes cast shadows on her soft cheeks, drawing me closer for a touch. ‘Can I touch her?’ Zeus pleaded, ready to come out. “No.” I gazed at the young woman in front of me, reminding myself she was the enemy. She was the cause of my miseries and my wretched life. I was a blessed alpha wolf-shifter having more powers than any ordinary Alpha. My father, Alpha Dimitrios, was a descendant of the Alphas of the Royal Kingdom of Aromania in Northern Greece. It has been almost forty years since my father migrated to Lucania for his beloved mate, my mother, Odessa. She was the daughter of Alpha Tyndall, the leader of the Luceres Pack under attack. My father, the most powerful shifter Alpha, helped him and later took over from him. Under his rule, the Luceres Pack reached new heights until that fateful night when we were attacked. I escaped with Hera and the younger ones from the pack. We took shelter in my family palace in Aromania, which was under the rule of my uncle, Alpha Georgios, the oldest among my three uncles. With my father being the youngest, I was the fourth heir in the long line to gain access to the throne. For years, I trained with my cousins to fight and rule my kingdom. At eighteen, I attacked Alpha Atticus, who had no clue about my existence earlier. Then he joined hands with Alpha Argyrus, the destructive ruler of Argyle in neighboring Albania. They attacked Aromania and for years we battled to save our kingdom. I lost half my family in the war. Even Alpha Atticus injured himself. We won the battle and annexed Argyle to our empire. I was free now to snatch what was rightfully mine: my home, Lucania, and my pack. ‘She’s stirring, Zeph!’ Zeus’ words brought me out of my reverie. “Yes. We should leave.” I knew Zeus didn’t want that. He strongly believed she was our mate, but I ignored my impulses. I would never accept the enemy, a Whiteridge wolf, as my mate! ‘No. I’m not going anywhere. I love watching her, man!’ protested Zeus. “I can’t accept her as my mate, Zeus. She’s the f*****g enemy! Don’t you get it?” I stood up to leave, but Zeus wasn’t taking no for an answer. Sometimes I had the uncanny feeling that Zeus was getting more and more feral with each passing day. He was getting wild and out of hand! I had to suppress his aura if I were to be a good alpha to my pack. ‘Will you reject our mate? I won’t let you, Zeph! She’s mine. I want to mark her and claim her soon,’ cried Zeus, growling at me with fury. “Quiet now or you’ll wake her up.” At that moment, Lena stirred and turned to face us. I couldn’t stop staring at her translucent porcelain skin. No wonder her wolf was milky white, just like her skin. A pale lock of hair fell backward to expose the sensitive spot beneath her ear. I squinted my eyes to check out the dark mark imprinted just below her right ear. Was it a tattoo? Did Ajax mark her already? The thought made me go wild with rage! How could he touch my mate? Although I had already ripped Ajax apart, the thought made me want to give him a slow death all over again. I leaned in to inspect the mark. It didn’t resemble a wolf bite at all. It seemed like a crescent moon. There was a faint glow emanating from the center of the mark. I instantly realized I had seen this mark somewhere long ago. ‘Do you think she’s a magical wolf?’ asked Zeus, staring at the mark. “I’ve seen it somewhere, but I can’t pinpoint it now!” I mumbled as I stared at the glowing mark. The closer I leaned towards it, the more it glowed, as if beckoning me towards her. I had to get away. I couldn’t just watch her without ravishing her! ‘I wouldn’t know if it was before your first shift!’ shrugged Zeus. His words got me thinking. He might be right! Zeus never forgot a thing, be it a scent, sound, or sight. His senses were more heightened than mine. So it had to be before my first shift, which was at thirteen. I walked out of Lena’s room, locking the door after me. My mind was in a state of confusion as I thought about everyone I met before I turned thirteen! I froze on my way to the pack house, where a meeting with the Council of Alphas was scheduled to start in an hour. Despite my busy schedule, all I could think of was Lena Warrick, my destined mate! I remembered where I had seen that mark. It was imprinted on Syble’s forehead! How could I ever forget the traitorous Beta’s wife? Her husband, Michael Tremblay, was the Beta under my father’s reign. He had escaped when Alpha Achilles attacked us. If he had stayed by my father’s side, we wouldn’t have lost. My father would have been alive. Michael was a traitor to the Luceres Pack! My body trembled with fury, realizing what it meant. Lena Warrick was the traitor’s daughter! Why was she called Warrick and not Tremblay? Was it to hide her true identity? She was fake! She was a traitor, too! Blood boiled in my veins as I entered the pack house. The members of the council had already arrived, and I strode into the room. For the next four hours, we were busy discussing issues, threats, and commercial business ventures, amongst other things. It was almost evening when they left. I stretched on my chair when Stavros joined me. “The injured warriors under Alpha Atticus have recovered, Alpha. They are happy to reunite with their families. Will you visit them once? They want to thank you and join us.” “Not tonight, Stav. I’ll surely pay them a visit tomorrow.” Tonight, I had a very important matter to wrap up. I wanted to punish the traitor for her father’s betrayal! “You look disturbed. Is anything the matter?” asked Stavros. I knew I couldn’t escape his sharp glance. We grew up together, trained together, and he stuck to me through thick and thin. Therefore, Hera, Stavros, Leandros, and his twin Alexandrios were like family to me. Alexandrios was a doctor, preferring to treat his patients in the background while we led the pack. “I just came to know Lena Warrick’s true identity. She’s the daughter of dad’s Beta, Michael Tremblay.” Stavros fumed with fury, his jaws dropping to the ground with surprise. “How can you be so sure? Why would she be called Warrick then?” “I am sure. She has the same mark as Syble.” Stavros gaped at me in confusion. “Why is she here, then? Do you think she has an underlying motive?” “Maybe.” “So what will you do with her?” asked Stavros warily. I turned away from him, unable to show the confusion in my eyes. “Of course, I’ll punish her for her father’s betrayal. He destroyed Lucania. He destroyed all of us.” “Leandros,” I yelled for my Gamma. Within minutes, he came rushing into the room. “Yes, Alpha.” “Do you know Lena Warrick’s true identity?” I barked at him, but he slowly shook his head. “She’s Michael Tremblay’s daughter. Tie her up. Ask her about her parents’ whereabouts. I want to know her motive for returning to the Luceres Pack. Torture her if she doesn’t open her mouth,” I gritted out, my body trembling with rage. “Yes, Alpha!” He left without further ado. Stavros too left with him, but I was more agitated than ever before. The need to run drove me wild. I could feel Zeus’ anger burning inside me. He wasn’t happy with my decision to torture his mate. ‘You’re making a mistake, Zeph!’ he muttered angrily.
