Like a woman possessed, I pushed Malik away and followed the scent. My nose was tilted up in the air while I tried to pinpoint the wolf's location. I could hear Malik speak, but his voice only sounded like background noise. I wanted to find him. No, I needed to. I got up from the pit and I let the scent lead the way. A pair of hands grabbed me, but I escaped from its grip and continued walking. My eyes kept darting around in search of the wolf. At some point in time, it registered in my mind that Malik was no longer trailing behind me.
