Chapter 9:
Ananya's point of view:
“Black or silver?” I asked Varuni and Veena, holding both the dress in front of them. I look fabulous in both of them and because of that I’m in a dilemma.
“Choose anyone, you look good in both” Vaani shrugged, giving her nonchalant answer.
I glared at her. As if I didn’t know that.
“I know I look gorgeous in both. That’s why I don’t know which to choose. You i***t!” I snapped at her. She sat straight and looked at the dresses carefully.
“Go with the silver, it feels appropriate for the cocktail party” Varuni said pointing towards the silver cocktail dress. It is strapless and flows easily down my body till it reaches the floor while hugging my body like gloves.
“Yeah, a lot of people will be wearing black anyway” Vaani said agreeing with the other one.
“Cool, what about your dresses?” I asked them.
“Yellow” Varuni quipped.
“Blue” Vaani answered.
“Okay, now get out. I need to get ready” I said pointing towards the door.
“Rude” Vaani threw me a dirty look. I stuck my tongue out at her.
When both left, I started getting ready. After my lunch with Aayush, he was sweet enough to drop me back to the venue. He was polite the whole time, no romantic moments maybe because I was so confused and in a trance the whole way.
He told me that he would be coming to this party and for some reason I want to dress the best. I have not made a decision yet. It’s very big one and I have time so I’ll put that on a hold and enjoy the ceremony.
You know that exciting feeling you get when you know you will be meeting your crush and spend time with him, that’s what I’m feeling right now. I’m hella excited and psyched that he would be here tonight and would be seeing me in this dress.
When I told you my parents were conservative, I was not kidding. This dress is strapless and my dad hates it. I bought it a year ago cause I fell in love with it at first sight and fought with my dad a lot when he saw this dress. I cried and yelled and finally he agreed with a grimace and I took my win.
I wore the dress and did minimal makeup. Everyone say that I have perfect skin for makeup, that my skin is tight with no pores. I think that’s a compliment, I don’t know. It’s just that if I wear tons of makeup, I look like a ghost so minimal it is.
I did my hair and makeup and by the time I was done, I could hear my cousins on the mike. The party was starting already. Today I’m sure everyone will be drunk af. I was about to leave when my phone started ringing. I saw my two best-friends video calling me.
Shit! I haven’t called them since I came here.
“Hello” I said cheerfully accepting the call, praying that they should not be angry but I knew all my prayers went in vain when I saw their angry face.
“Hello my ass, why the hell didn’t you call us?” Maya charged and Arshi nodded with an angry face. She’s so cute, she looks like an angry bird.
“Sorry guys, there’s so much happening here. I didn’t even get time to poop” I explained my misery.
They crunched their face in disgust.
“We don’t need details about THAT” Arshi said.
“So, how are you both?” I tried to change the subject. Keyword- tried.
“Uh-uh-uh missy, don’t try to change the subject. Tell us about your time there” Maya ordered and I had to oblige.
“Look, the function is about to start. I’ll call you guys tomorrow after the wedding is over and tell you everything” I pleaded with them, I can already hear the dj playing songs.
“Fine, don’t need to talk about it on call. You will back soon anyway. Let’s talk here itself” Arshi said calmly and I nodded.
“That’s a great idea but listen I need to go now. I’ll be back soon. Bye” I hung up as soon as I heard their byes.
I walked out of my room and literally there was no one inside. Everyone must be in the party hall. I walked slowly towards the place as I’m wearing high heels. I have plenty of practice wearing them but you have no idea when you might slip and break your hip.
I entered the hall and it was fabulous. The whole party hall, which was very huge by the way was decorated in a modern taste. There was a bar counter and a dance floor and obviously everyone was looking so god damn gorgeous. I say my parents and walked towards them greeting people I met on the way. My parents saw me and their reaction was exactly as I expected and so completely different from each other.
My mom looked excited while my dad was trying hard to smile but would turn into a grimace.
The dude’s got to chill.
“Hey mom, hey dad” I said twirling, showing them my dress.
“The dress looks amazing, but you should have worn a pony, it would suit this dress more” My mom said touching my hairs and I rolled my eyes.
While my dad hates dresses that shows more skin, my mom hates when I put my hair down. She always wants me to tie my hairs like she does. She has this weird thing going on with hairs, she hates them and freaks out if she finds hairs around the house.
We are humans too mom, we do face hair-fall.
“I look good” I said with a straight face.
“Haa, when did I say anything otherwise” She chided patting my shoulder.
“What about you dad? Any comments?” I asked raising my eyebrows.
“No comments” He said with an impassive look and walked towards other uncles.
Phew! That went better than I expected.
I turned to look for Akshay, I wanted to talk to him about the dance number we had planned but my eyes met Mr. Hot-And-Sexy aka Mr. Aayush Malhotra.
And my whole world stopped.
He looked so damn handsome wearing that black suit which hugged his body perfectly. Gosh, the things I want to do to his body-
Shhh!! No dirty thoughts Anu.
Chiding at myself, I came back to my senses when his eyes met mine.
The look on his face when he checked my out from bottom to top made my smile turn into a smirk.
This party is gonna be so much FUN.

I stood beside Veena who was sipping her wine. Tonight’s plan is very simple, all we are going to do is drink and dance. The main purpose of this cocktail party was to chill and enjoy the vibe. I could see Akshay and Aayush at the bar talking to dad and Akshay’s dad. I don’t know what conversation they are having or how interesting that is because he hasn’t looked at me even once since he first saw me tonight.
Grumbling, I turned towards my cousins who were talking about some influencer and her dressing sense, completely non-interested.
“So boring yaar” I said, sulking as soon as Akshay came and stood beside me.
“Then let’s start the party”, he said, raising his wine glass and turned towards the DJ and signalled him to start playing hype songs.
We all looked at each other and grinned before rushing towards the dance floor as our favourite Bollywood song started playing.
All of us were dancing our hearts out when Akshay gave me a smirk and before I could comprehend what was happening, he pushed me backwards. I looked at him with wide eyes expecting the fall, but two hands held my waist balancing me.
Fuck! My whole body shook at the thought of breaking my ankle.
His touch felt different, alienated but exciting. I don’t usually like it when people I don’t know very closely touch me, but I think this person is an exception. I stood straight and turned around to see Aayush looking at me wide-eyed, in concern. Poor guy looks like he was mortified.
That’s kind of sweet.
I gave him a sweet smile which he returned warily with his eyes on my legs to make sure I was standing properly.
I moved towards Akshay, who gave me a pleading look.
“Look Ananya, it was an honest mistake. Someone pushed me yaar”, he said, looking around.
“Yeah, yeah I believe you” I said, giving him a fake smile and pushed my heels on his loafers.
His face turned grimace as he tried to quiet down his wince.
Good. He deserves it.
Twirling my hair around, I went towards the bar where my dad and uncles were standing. They were cracking some dad jokes, those only they find it funny. Rolling my eyes at them, I ordered a long island ice tea.
I sat there sipping lightly, scanning my relatives on the dance floor. Not one can dance better. Silently chuckling at my cousins bizarre dance moves, I sat there when someone came and sat beside me.
I turned to my right to see Aayush sitting there and looking at me. I raised my eyebrows at him.
“Are you okay?” He asked looking concerned.
I chuckled. Who would have guessed, he would turn out to be this cute and sweet guy? Or is he acting?
“I’m fine, it’s just breaking my ankle is one of my biggest pet peeve” I said smiling sheepishly.
He looked at me amused.
“What?” I asked a bit embarrassed.
“Nothing” He said with a knowing smile.
I awkwardly started sipping my drink, not knowing what to say next.
This is a first. I usually can’t stop talking and that’s one of my special talent. I can come up with any topic and start conversing with people I don’t even know, but for some reason I couldn’t find a topic for the life of me.
“Do you dance?” He asked hesitantly.
“Didn’t you see me before? I am a champ” I said winking at him. He gave me a loop sided smile.
“Wait, are you asking me to dance with you?” I asked getting confused.
He looked taken aback.
“Umm, umm” he stammered.
I smirked.
“No, no I just wanted to- “ he looked so conscious that I felt bad for me.
“Chill, I was kidding” I said chuckling.
I promise I heard him sigh.
“I mean I don’t mind” I turned towards him in shock to see him looking at me with an uncertain smile.
