Chapter 6: Ananya's point of view: “You’re kidding, right?” I asked raising my eyebrows. “What? It looks so cool” Maya said holding the saree in front of her and looking in the mirror. “I don’t want to wear a saree and definitely not that one” I said in distaste looking at that bright green saree. I’m more of a black or red dress kind of a girl. “uh-ha, aunty told us to make sure you buy a saree so suck it up and choose one” Arshi said glaring at me, keeping her hands on her waist. I stifled my smile, she couldn’t even scare a kitten if she tried. “But I don’t want to” I whined falling on the sofa dramatically in the trial room. “Anu, look at this” Maya said grabbing onto a silver saree white golden blouse. Huh. I reached out and grabbed the fabric, it feels nice and looks exquisite. I yanked it out of her hands, ignoring her ‘Oye’ and placed it in front of me and looked at the mirror. Hmm, I can make this work. “Okay girls, we need to find some good flats for this saree” I said turning towards them. “You just said-“ I cut Arshi in the middle. “Your highness has changed her decision, now chop-chop!!” I said throwing the saree at Maya, which fell on her face. Oops. I walked towards the billing area knowing they are following me grumbling under their breath. I hate shopping. Like really hate it. I love online shopping though, all I have to do is swipe my fingers and check the size of those dresses. Up until engineering final year, I never saw the price or size when I went shopping with mom. Maya and Arshi taught me how to shop. Now that I hate shopping, I act high and mighty just to get through this awful time and my friends need to bear with me. Their karma. “b***h, what did you say about flats?” Maya asked narrowing her eyebrows. “That I’m gonna buy them” I said squinting my eyes in confusion. When did she start forgetting English? “No you i***t, you won’t be wearing flats, you will be wearing heels” She explained to me with an eye-roll and I gave them a flat look. “You hate me, don’t you?” I asked pointing my finger at her. “What?” She asked looking at me confused. “You want me to fall on my face and damage this beautiful face and break a few bones complimentarily. Don’t you?” I accused her with a glare. “God, if I want to damage your face all I have to do is give you a slight push. You can hardly balance yourself anyway” She said rolling her eyes. What she said is true, I can hardly balance myself and the amount of times I have tripped for no reason is so many. You know I wobbled and lost my balance while standing. Yeah, that’s how great I am. I’m what you guys say malnutrition kid. Don’t blame my parents, they tried to feed me well but I’m very specific when it comes to food. Not because I look after my body, uh-ha! It’s because I’m lazy and eat 3 times meal just to survive. I eat unhealthy amount of spicy food and chips. Maggie and chaats are the only things that bring me satisfaction so you can tell how healthy I am. “Anu, heels go well with this saree. It’s just for one night. There will be dance and dj” Arshi tried to persuade me. “Exactly and I don’t want to fall on my butt and flash my grandparents and ugly aunties” I tried to reason with them. Both of them groaned. “Just go to Mc Donald’s, we’ll meet you there” Maya said taking my card out of my wallet and pushed me towards the exit. “That’s what I suggested when we started this whole charade” I said waving my hands around. Both shared a look and walked towards the counter completely ignoring me. Shrugging, I made my way towards Mc Donald’s. Yummy chicken nuggets, strips, popcorn and buggers are waiting for me. I grabbed all the above mentioned and sat on the bigger bench and started eating. Yum. I’m in heaven. Mc spicy chicken burger with tomato sauce = heaven. My phone started to ring disturbing my foodgasm, groaning I picked up the call. It’s Akshay. Why is this fool calling me now? After ignoring all my calls, he wants to talk now. I picked up. “Hello” He voiced. “What?” I asked munching on my burger. “How very nice Anu” He said sarcastically. Like I give a rat’s ass. “Yeah, yeah! What?” I kept my response short as to not wanting to choke on my burger. “Are you angry at me?” I could imagine his sheepish face. I gulped my food to give him a rightful answer. “Oh, why would I be mad at you? All you did was, went behind my back and told my parents about this proposal and blatantly ignored my call and oh! Oh! You came to my house with your that high-quality pish-posh friend who blatantly told to my face that I’m not worth his time” my voice raised at the end. I thought I was okay with that whole incident but I guess I’m not. “Anu, listen-“ “No, I don’t want to. I was happy and content in my life and all you did was bring that handsome, arrogant jerk into my life and stirred it up” I huffed munching on chicken popcorn. Poor chicken, my teeth is killing it all over again. “Handsome, huh?” I could see him smirk. “That’s the only thing you heard from all that?” I asked incredulously flapping my arms around. Few people looked at me as if I’ve lost my mind, that’s when I realised I was yelling too. “Look, I should I have talked to you before setting this up but I knew you would have laughed at my face and said no without even giving it a chance” He said calmly. “Oh yeah, I gave it a chance now. What happened?” I asked sarcastically. “I’ll talk to him. I understand what he wanted to convey but the way he did was wrong” He tried to take his friends side. “Talk to him about what? Look he’s not interested in me so dude, I don’t even want to see his face” I huffed remembering that hot, handsome jerk’s face. Oh, how I would ride hi- No Anu, no dirty thoughts about him. He doesn’t deserve them. “Just give him one more chance” He pleaded. “Chance? Why? So that he can say to my face how he wants me as a nanny for his daughter in his life” I said gritting my teeth. “That clueless i***t” I heard him mutter to himself. True that! “Okay fine, but tell him before he opened his stupid mouth did you like him? Did you like baby Diya?” He asked hopefully. My heart soured remembering that little munchkin. She was the cutest and the bubbliest baby I have ever seen. One that looks like in i********: viral posts, that kind of baby. If I ever have a baby like that, then I’ll open an account and fill it with that baby’s picture for sure. “Akshay, that baby is an angel hands-down. There’s no other way to look at her. Sure, he is good looking and nicely built but that’s not enough to spend a life time with someone” I said grumbling. It’s irritating to admit that I have a tiny crush on that guy. “I’ll call you at night, bye” He said in a hurry and hung up. I sat there with food in my mouth which was wide open. What just happened? I told to this i***t what was hard to admit and what did he do? He hung up. Great. A hand touched my jaw and pushed it back up. I turned to see Maya and Arshi standing to my right looking at me confused. “What happened?” They asked taking the seat before me. “I have no freaking idea” I said curling my lips downwards. They shrugged and started gushing over the heels that they have bought for me and some jewellery that would match my saree while I sat there confused. ------------ -------------- ------------ ------------- --------------- ------------- ----------------- ------------- -------------- ---------------- --------- It’s been a week since that disastrous meet, I act like I’m over it with my friends but sometimes when I’m alone I think about these fake scenarios where the meet went well and we were getting married. Looks wise he is my dream guy but I never got to know his personality. He was rude but I won’t judge him by just that conversation. I know this is the end, I would never see him again but my heart and mind always find a way to think about what could have happened if… Sighing, I packed my bag. All these thoughts are making me crazy, I seriously need to have a new crush. “Hey Anu” Maya peeped, opening the door slowly before coming in. “Yeah mom” I said keeping my earphones in my hand bag. They are a must, if there is no music then I’ll start vomiting the whole way. I have motion sickness. Yeah, it’s a real b***h. “Did you pack everything you need?” She asked sitting on my bed. “Yeah, just need to put my heels” I said eyeing them in distaste. These two have warned me that if I don’t wear these heels with the saree then they’ll burn all my shoes and slippers off. So, safe to say I’ll be wearing those monstrous heels and breaking my hip, oh! And shatter my ankles. “In the bag, it goes” She said looking at me tentatively. Rolling my eyes, I kept it in. “Anu?” She called. “Hmm” I answered searching for my charger. “Are you okay?” She asked looking at me concerned. “I’m fine” I said in a tone, which she understood that I’m not in a mood to talk about my feelings. “I’m going to Akshay’s parents’ 30th wedding anniversary which they are celebrating by getting them married again, it will be a blast and I’m going to enjoy these three days to the fullest. It was Thursday, tomorrow morning I’m leaving to Mumbai for the function. They have arranged this function in a resort. Akshay wants to celebrate his parents 30th wedding anniversary very grandly so he and his wife have planned to get his parents married again. So they have 3 days’ function planned. On Friday, Mehendi and sangeet function and on Saturday morning haldi function and evening cocktail party. On Sunday, the wedding with reception. They have gone full out with this function. Akshay wants to recreate his parents wedding to celebrate their love. Theirs was love marriage at that time itself. I really want to enjoy these days to my fullest and forget about certain someone and move on. It was a silly crush anyway. ----------- -------------- --------------- -------------- ---------------- --------------- --------------- --------------------- ------------- ------------------
