Chapter 80

The first light of dawn filtered through the trees, casting a soft, golden glow over the meadow. Teddy and Isla lay entwined on the blanket, their bodies still warm from the heat of their passion. Isla slowly stirred, her eyes fluttering open to find herself nestled in Teddy's arms. The events of the previous night played back in her mind, and she felt a surge of emotion. It had been a night of intimacy and connection unlike any she had experienced before. Teddy shifted beside her, his eyes opening to meet hers. A slow, sleepy smile spread across his face. “Good morning,” he whispered, his voice rough with sleep. “Good morning,” Isla replied, her heart swelling with affection. She reached up and brushed a lock of hair from his forehead. The touch was tender, filled with the unspoken promises of the night before. Teddy held her gaze, his eyes serious. “Isla, about last night...” Isla felt a flutter of nervousness. “Yes?” He took a deep breath. “Does this mean we’re a couple? Because that’s what I want. I want to be with you, Isla.” Isla felt her heart race. She had hoped for this, but the past still haunted her. “I think so, Teddy. But there’s something I need from you first.” “Anything,” Teddy said, his voice earnest. “Just tell me.” Isla sat up slightly, still wrapped in the blanket. “I need you to promise me that you can be faithful. That you won’t hurt me like you did last time. I can’t go through that again.” Teddy’s expression turned serious. He sat up as well, taking both of her hands in his. “Isla, I know I messed up before. I was stupid, and I hurt you. I hate myself for that. But I swear to you, I will never cheat on you again. No one compares to you. You’re the only one I want.” Tears welled up in Isla’s eyes. She searched his face, looking for any sign of insincerity, but all she saw was the deep, genuine love he had for her. “Do you really mean that?” “I do,” Teddy said, his voice steady and sincere. “I love you, Isla. And I’m going to spend the rest of my life proving it to you.” Isla felt a tear slip down her cheek. She reached up and cupped his face, her thumb brushing over his stubble. “I love you too, Teddy. And I want this to work. I want us to work.” Teddy leaned in and kissed her, a kiss filled with all the promises of their future together. When they finally pulled apart, Isla felt a sense of peace and hope. She believed him. She believed in them. They lay back down on the blanket, wrapped in each other’s arms, watching as the sun continued to rise. The world around them seemed to glow with the promise of a new beginning. After a while, they decided to head back to the cabin. They gathered their things and walked back hand in hand, the events of the previous night and the morning’s conversation settling into a comfortable reality. Isla felt lighter, as if a great weight had been lifted from her shoulders. When they reached the cabin, they set about their morning routines, the familiarity of the tasks grounding them both. Teddy made breakfast, and Isla couldn’t help but smile at the domesticity of it all. They sat down at the table, eating in comfortable silence, stealing glances and smiles at each other. “I was thinking,” Teddy said between bites of his toast, “maybe we could go into town today. Get some supplies and maybe... celebrate.” Isla laughed. “Celebrate?” “Yeah,” Teddy said with a grin. “Celebrate us. Our new beginning.” Isla’s heart swelled. “I’d like that. But no more run-ins with Eleanor, okay?” Teddy’s expression turned serious. “Absolutely. I don’t want anything to ruin this.” After breakfast, they got ready and drove into town. The market square was bustling with activity, much like it had been the previous day. But today felt different. Isla felt different. She felt more confident, more secure in her relationship with Teddy. They wandered through the stalls, picking up fresh produce and other supplies for the cabin. Teddy insisted on buying a bouquet of wildflowers for Isla, and she blushed as he handed them to her, a wide grin on his face. “For the most beautiful girl in the world,” he said, his eyes twinkling. Isla laughed, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. “Thank you, Teddy. They’re beautiful.” As they continued their shopping, they ran into Jenny, who greeted them with a broad smile. “Hey, you two! It’s good to see you together.” Isla smiled back, feeling a sense of camaraderie. “Hi, Jenny. It’s good to see you too.” Jenny’s eyes sparkled with mischief. “So, are you two a thing now?” Isla glanced at Teddy, who was grinning from ear to ear. “Yeah,” she said, feeling a thrill as she said the words. “We are.” “That’s fantastic!” Jenny said, giving them both a hug. “You deserve all the happiness in the world.” After catching up with Jenny, they finished their shopping and headed to a small café for lunch. They sat outside, enjoying the sunshine and each other’s company. Teddy reached across the table and took Isla’s hand, his thumb gently stroking her knuckles. “I meant what I said this morning,” he said softly. “I’m going to prove to you every day that you made the right choice.” Isla squeezed his hand, her heart filled with love. “I know you will, Teddy. And I’m going to do the same. We’re in this together.” They spent the rest of the afternoon exploring the town, visiting shops and enjoying the sights. It felt like a date, and Isla couldn’t remember the last time she had felt so happy and carefree. As the sun began to set, they headed back to the cabin, the air filled with the scent of wildflowers and pine. Isla felt a deep sense of contentment as they drove, Teddy’s hand resting comfortably on her thigh. When they arrived home, they put away their supplies and settled in for the evening. They cooked dinner together, laughing and talking as they worked. The cabin felt warm and inviting, filled with the promise of their new beginning. After dinner, they sat by the fire, the flames casting a warm glow over the room. Teddy pulled Isla close, his arms wrapped around her as they watched the fire crackle and dance. “I love you, Isla,” Teddy whispered, his lips brushing her ear. “I love you too, Teddy,” Isla replied, her heart swelling with emotion. “So much.” They kissed, a kiss filled with all the love and promises they had made to each other. As the fire burned low, they held each other close, their hearts beating in perfect harmony. Isla knew that the road ahead wouldn’t always be easy. There would be challenges and obstacles to overcome. But with Teddy by her side, she felt ready to face whatever came their way. Their love was strong and true, a guiding light in the darkness, and with that, she knew they could conquer anything. As they drifted off to sleep, wrapped in each other’s arms, Isla felt a deep sense of peace and fulfillment. She had found her home, her heart, and her future in Teddy, and she knew that no matter what happened, they would face it together.
