18 The carriage rolled along for another mile before it stopped beside a sharp turn in the cliffs where the high walls curved toward Amnisis. I could see the glistening walls of that fine city as we disembarked, and a tinge of pride struck me. I looked up at Luca and noticed his gaze lay on his beloved city, as well, and there was a tender expression on his face. “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” He smiled and nodded. “There’s nothing more beautiful in the world.” I snorted and jabbed my elbow into his ribcage.
