Chapter 3Once Jesse stepped into the shower, he didn’t want to leave it again. He scrubbed himself down, rinsed, scrubbed, rinsed again, scrubbed a third time, and realized the stench of smoke was trapped in his nose, and no amount of washing would make a difference. It was illogical, but the reminder made him feel ill. Illogical because Gideon was fine. Emma was fine. Emma had finally opened her eyes just before visiting hours ended, and he had explained everything to her. Well, almost everything.
