Chapter 13The library door was hanging open like a drooling mouth. Jesse stopped short, and Gideon almost ran into him. For a moment, it looked like the room had simply disappeared. Like it had all been swallowed into a black vortex, leaving nothing but an abyss to stare back at Jesse. Unblinking. Considering everything he went through that night, it didn’t even seem like an unlikely explanation. In that second, it seemed entirely possible for a room, for almost twenty people, for the other half of Jesse’s life, to simply disappear from the Earth.
