Chapter 12Emma’s excitement about John’s progress lasted only long enough for her to reach the second stair, on her way down to tell Michelle that it was working. Then, the fear that burned through her almost made her fall, and her hand shot out to grip the railing as she fought against the nausea rising in the back of her throat. She recognized that fear.
