Chapter 1 – Life-Changing interview
“Where is that blouse? I need it?” I scream out, causing my roommate, Ally, to come running in.
“What is wrong, Freya? Why are you screaming?” she asks while sitting on my messy bed.
“I can’t find my blue blouse!” I stress out while stuffing my face back into my closet.
“It’s in the laundry, hanging up,” she sighs out; I quickly rush into the laundry to check, only to find it exactly where she said it was. I am an i***t; it is sitting with the freshly ironed clothes that I did last night. Argh.
“Oh, s**t yeah, you’re right, thanks,” I breathe out before rushing back into my room to get dressed. Once I’m dressed, I check the time and notice that I am running late.
I quickly grab everything before rushing out.
“Hey, good luck, beautiful,” Ally yells after me.
“Thanks,” I scream back before hopping in my car. I am really nervous; this is my first job interview in my dream field since graduating from university. I have been applying for 3 months straight and haven’t even been given a second look. I currently have two jobs to keep afloat, but it isn’t a long-term solution, let alone I don’t want my degree to go to waste.
This interview could be my last chance to get a job in this field, and it is with the best possible company I could ever wish to work for. The CEO Julietta young is famous in the business world, and my idol and I would love the opportunity to work within her company.
By the time I parked my car, I am shaking from head to toe. I have never been too good with my nerves. I quickly rush the two blocks to the city high rise; parking in the city sucks.
Once I enter the building, I force myself to slow down and look normal as everyone else before walking up to the reception and letting them know why I am here.
“Hello, how can I help you?”
“Um, I have an interview wit-” I start before I get cut off by the receptionist.
“With Miss young in 10 minutes?” she finishes for me but with one exception.
“I thought I was meeting with a Mr Davis?” I question before I can stop myself.
“Ah, yes. I believe that’s what you were told, but there has been a change of plans. If you don’t mind taking this visitor pass and heading up to the top floor and letting her assistant know your name.” she says while handing me the pass and then going back to her work.
OMG, I can’t believe that I will meet the CEO just for a simple interview; I am 500 per cent more nervous now. The elevator ride takes forever.
It’s just an interview, and I most likely won’t ever see her again if it goes badly. But if it goes well, then well yeah.
“Ding”
“Here we go,” I mumble to myself as I walk off the elevator. I put my head up and walk towards the assistance desk, the only thing in here except for Miss young’s office.
“Hello, you must be Freya Colt; Miss Young is expected you, please go on through into her office.” The assistant says before I can even open my mouth. I just nod like an i***t before walking to the door.
The assistant said I could just walk right in, but it didn’t feel right, so I knocked twice. Shortly after, I hear, “Come in.”
I slowly walk in, “Have a seat Miss Colt” Miss young says without even looking up from her desk. I obey and sit down without saying anything. I know I should speak up, but suddenly my throat is completely dry, and I have no voice. When I can finally work up enough courage to speak, she cuts me off.
“I-“
“Not a word unless I give you permission to speak.” She says without even looking up. Her voice is filled with so much anger and dominance that she scares me. I may not have been to many job interviews lately, but I don’t think this is how an interview is meant to go. I shift in my seat, uncomfortable with the current situation, but unfortunately, she holds all the power.
She was the big success story of my university; they had recordings of her talks. The way she talked about business inspired me to one day run my own company. I really didn’t take university seriously anymore after my accident until that day. She inspired me, and now, well yeah.
20 minutes pass without a word said and to say I am getting pissed is an understatement.
“Look, I under- “I start while standing up.
“Did I say you could speak?” she growls out while finally looking up, her blue eyes pierce mine.
“no-no, you d-“
“Shut up then and sit back down,” she orders, and before I can think, my butt hits the chair. What is wrong with me, she is treating me like s**t, and instead of standing up for myself, I just compiled with her orders.
When it reaches the 40-minute mark, I start to feel like an absolute i***t for letting her treat me this way, yet I stay.
I have had enough at the one-hour point, and my fear is long gone, only to be replaced with anger.
“I’m done with this s**t,” I growl while jumping up from the chair and heading towards the exit.
“Stop right now,” She growls out, but I just ignore her, continuing towards the exit, but just as I reach it, I hear a click; I just really hope it wasn’t the lock engaging. But of course, when I try to turn the handle, I find that it is locked. I just growl and bang my fist against the door. What the hell is going on?
I hear her get up before she starts talking and all I can do is keep trying the door because I am terrified of her. Although she hasn’t even done anything yet, something about her and the energy in the room has me panicking.
“I said stop! You are to stop carrying on right now and sit back down before I come over there myself.” She growls.
I stop attempting to get out of the office, but I don’t move. I keep facing the door before asking, “what do you want?” biting my lip at the vase possible responses.
“That’s easy. I want you to obey me and come sit back down.” She instructs, clearly aware that wasn’t what I was asking. “Now!” she growls; I jump about ten feet, terrified by the tone of her voice. I slowly turn around and head back to my chair, which she is now standing in front of.
I am starting to think I am here for something other than an interview; first, my interviewer turns out to be the CEO and then she doesn’t try to interview me and won’t let me out or even talk. f**k my life. Is it possible that she knows me? No, it can’t be. I quickly shake those thoughts out of my head before focusing on her.
I have to brush my whole body past Miss Young’s to sit down, but when I hesitate, she clears her throat, signalling me to sit, I comply. But as I do so, she pushes her body further into mine. I fall back into the chair; as a result, she smirks before placing her hand on the arms of the chair and leaning in to whisper into my ear.
“See, little girl, it wasn’t that hard to obey me, so keep on obeying, or you will find out what happens when I’m angry.” She growls before biting my ear. I whimper in response.
She backs off only to sit on the desk in front of me, not giving me any room away from her. I keep my mouth shut, waiting to see what she is going to say.
“I guess you wondering why you are here, if not for an interview.” She states. I bite my tongue to keep myself quiet.
“Good girl, you are technically here for a job interview, and you will leave here today with a job. I have a contract here all ready for you to sign; once you sign it, you will be mine, well, one of my employees.” She says before dropping a contract in my lap, that seems way too big. I slowly pick the contract up and start reading it. The contract begins pretty straightforward, but by the fifth page, it changes, and what I read shocks me to the core.
“NO WAY!” I growl out, slamming the contract onto the floor, but as I try to stand up, she forces me back down.
“Did I say you could talk?” she growls.
“I do not care; I will not agree to that,” I growl, full of disgust.
“Oh, trust me, you will. You have two options, agree and get anything you could ever want or walk out of here and get blacklisted from any and every company.” She smirks out.
What am I going to do? If I agree, my life ends, and if I don’t, it ends. I have no clear option. I can’t believe this is happening to me?
What does the contract say? What will she do?
