Sometimes I questioned my own action.
What the f**k have I done?
Did I make the right choice?
Was this real?
I kept telling myself to just use her. She meant nothing more to me. All for my plan with Rowan. But the more I told myself that, the more something felt not right about it.
And here I was, on the same spot, watching her. Only this time, I was not watching her.
“You’re here,” there she was. Turning around, seeing the most gorgeous woman I’d ever seen standing there. With her wearing a black off-shoulder blouse and blue jeans. Painting her small lips with red lipstick and those gorgeous aqua eyes. Always holding me as her prisoner without her even trying and knowing. This woman was part Succubus but damn, she looked like an angel. Her long sandy blonde hair cascaded down behind her, looking like a halo circling her. Her red lips formed a smile. “Micah,” she stated my name.
“Venus,” I whispered hers.
She exhaled a laugh. “You’re really here,” she said. Yeah, not even me believed myself. You see, I promised her a silly thing which maybe to her was not silly at all. I told her before I would come back for her when she reached sixteen. And I would be waiting for her here, under the tree where she found me for the first time. That was a long time ago and I thought Venus would forget recalling she was still a little girl back then. I was hoping she wouldn’t though and she did not.
Venus walked closer. “You didn’t change at all,” she said.
“Because I’m an Incubus and my appearance remains the same for millennia.”
“You’re lucky.” Ah, the lady hadn’t noticed that she was just the same as me. And she would soon be my bride. “I was hoping you would come for me yesterday.” Yesterday. I knew why.
“Yesterday was your birthday and you should spend your time with your family.” And it was not like I would be welcomed there anyway.
“I appreciate your good intention.” Good? There was nothing good about me. What I saw once I got my hands on her was only destruction. This world where she lived would be no more once we consumed each other. More like I was the one who would consume her. I wonder how it felt like when I f****d her. Oh, come on, Micah. f*****g her didn’t make any difference when I f****d the others. Only a different p***y. s**t, asshole. She’s still f*****g sixteen. Oh, wait. Why the hell do I have to obey the damn rules? That rule only applied to humans, not me. There were no rules for me. Or were there?
Venus came closer. Her floral perfume entered my nostrils immediately. Perfume. Had she started wearing it? To look more like a mature lady? She smelled so sweet. My sweet temptation. And kind of powdery. Oh, crap. I could feel myself continued being wrapped with her scent. Jesus Christ. Hold up. Why the f**k I have to mention that guy’s name? Well, that was common. Nobody said oh, hail Lucifer besides those guys down there. Not even me ever said that when I was cursing.
“I made this this morning,” she said. I glanced at the box she was carrying. I smelled something in there. Cinnamon and buttery. What is it? She sat down on the grass. I followed as she opened the box. Did Felicia or Nathaniel question her why she was carrying a box outside?
“Your family okay with you coming here?” I asked.
“I told them I want this alone because Nathan and Auntie Feli had their shares yesterday.” Oh, okay.
She opened the box, showing a dessert-looking like. What was those spider’s web looking like on top? Was that a dessert? “A dessert?”
“Yes. This is an apple pie.” An apple pie?
“It smells good.”
“I want you to try it. I just tried baking recently.” Yeah, I knew. Because I kept watching her. I saw her cut her finger and all I wanted to do was to go there and fix it. But I never moved an inch. I couldn’t expose myself.
She grabbed a knife and I felt like I just got stabbed by it as I immediately grabbed it. “I’ll do it,” I said. “You have to be careful with this thing.”
“I’m fine.”
“Not when you cut yourself.” f**k!
She smiled a bit. “You were watching me,” she stated like she had figured it out already.
“You can tell?”
“I felt someone was watching me. But whenever I looked around, nobody was there.” I wasn’t there. Because I dashed away from her sight immediately.
“How do you cut it?” I asked about the pie.
“You should make it a triangle for a single portion.”
“Got it.” I pushed in the knife from the corner and moved it to the other side. Making a triangle as she requested. Venus presented a small plate and I put down a single piece. She cut a small piece with a fork and presented it to me. “I can do it myself,” I insisted.
“I know. But I want to do this. I always do this with Nathan.” How I was hoping she wouldn’t say that name.
This was ridiculous.
Why did I hate it when she mentioned another’s man name? And Nathaniel was her f*****g brother. Half-brother but he was still her brother. Not that Venus knew about it. Why everyone around her was a bunch of p*****s and didn’t dare to tell her everything? Just let her know she was a part of Succubus so I could do my job like the flip of a coin.
Besides, I didn’t mean to be overconfident, Venus liked me. I could see it. I could feel it. And she just showed it. Maybe she hadn’t been aware of it but that didn’t matter. Her feelings never mattered. Only her existence mattered.
She moved the fork closer. In my dark mind, it felt like she was holding a trident with someone’s heart on the edge. Showing how capable she was to kill someone. To be my equal. f**k, she would make one fine queen of darkness down there.
For me, not for Lucifer.
That old man could look for a different soul just for himself. It was not like he would want Venus anyway. Lucifer despised humans. He could annihilate the entire civilization with a snap of his finger but he held back. Why? Because he loved toying with humans. He hated them and that’s why he was playing with them. Never mess around with the king of the underworld, because he would play you back. And none of us wanted it.
“Micah?” Her voice snapped my mind away as I blinked and opened my mouth. She pushed the fork inside as I closed my mouth and she pulled the fork out. Tasting the apple pie. Feeling the crunch and the sweet and slightly sour juicy apple. The spices from the cinnamon. Venus kept looking at me. Demanding an answer.
I knew what I would get if I said this tasted like s**t. It was not. On the contrary, “Delicious,” I said. Rewarding me with her wide smile and showing me her perfect white teeth. Damn, she looked so thrilled just by me complimenting her apple pie. But it was good and I liked it.
“I’m glad you like it. I don’t know what you like. Auntie Feli said apple pie is easy so I tried it,” she explained. Actually, I never had any favorite regarding foods. It was not like I would die by starvation. I would only die if I couldn’t satisfy my hunger for her.
“I guess I favor apples now,” I said.
“Do you have any favorite food?”
“No. Everything tastes the same to me. But your apple pie does a lot to me. I like it now.” I looked back at her. “Thank you.” She only smiled and looked down at the pie. Ah, she was shy. “Do you want one too?”
“No. You can have them all. I have to go back.” No! “Auntie Feli and Nathan will get suspicious if I don’t go back now.”
“Well, what reason you will give them without your apple pie?” There was just no way she would say she ate them all, right? “I have enough with one; you can have the rest.”
“Then, I want you to have half of them,” she decided and grabbed the knife, cutting half of the pie and putting them on the plates she had. Actually, I wanted to tell her that she didn’t have to worry about what Nathaniel and Felicia would look for her. I’d set up a barrier and that’s why I was always saved from their watchful eyes. “Can I see you again?” she asked with hope glistening in her eyes. She could if she looked outside of the window of her room. But meeting like this, I couldn’t promise that. All I could think of by having her here was I wanted to snatch her and bring her with me. What’s stopping you, Donovan?
So, I stated, “If you caught me here, that will be our second date.”
Bringing her aqua orbs to me, she smiled. “I will be watching my surrounding then,” she said. I tilted a smile and she grabbed the box with the remaining apple pie. We stood together. “Thank you for keeping your promise today, Micah. Bye.” I didn’t say anything and let her turn around. Looking at her back. This was so easy and hard at the same time. I could have just put her to sleep and bring her with me. Yet, I didn’t. Just do it, Micah. Just f*****g do it. Wipe out this dirty world. Kill everyone. Let the monster out.
But all I did, “Venus,” was that. She turned around again and I said the stupidest thing I could ever say to my bride, “Happy birthday.”
Her smile beamed once again. “Thank you, Micah.” Finally, walking away from me.
The longing was strong.
The hunger.
The crave.
“What the f**k is this?”
