Todd was crossing the last intersection on his way to school when a bulldozer appeared from out of nowhere. It was speeding at him from the opposite direction.
The roads in Edmonton were constantly under construction, so it was not surprising that a bulldozer would appear like this. Typically, though, their drivers did not drive around like maniacs.
Todd cursed. He wanted to stop and let the bulldozer go first, but it did not look like it would work out this way. That was because, instead of slowing down, the bulldozer appeared to be speeding up, and it was on a collision course with his car.
Todd was filled with a strong sense of dread. His heart began to beat frantically. He began to sweat profusely, and as the bulldozer rushed towards him, time seemed to slow down a bit.
Without thinking, he stepped down hard on the accelerator, turned the steering wheel slightly, and rushed past the side of the bulldozer. His side mirror pinged the shovel, but no significant damage was done. Unfortunately, the car behind Todd’s was not so lucky. It took the full force of the dozer, and the kinetic energy forced the Porsche into a big tree.
After having his car crushed, Todd turned the steering wheel and accelerated to get rid of the car behind him. Before he could make any progress, though, another light sports car rushed out of the side lane and the three cars were caught in a chain collision.
By now, Todd had realized that someone was trying to kill him. From his rearview mirror, he could see that there were three more cars approaching him. "Do these three idiots want to compete with me?" he grumbled.
Todd switched from automatic to manual, stepped on the accelerator, switched gears, and drove the car onto a trail by the side of the street. His speedy reaction was utterly beyond what any high school student should have been capable of, but Gianni had come prepared for anything. He treated Todd in the same way that he would an extraordinary soldier.
A light sports car that had been on the side of the street for a long time suddenly came to life and rammed into Todd as he attempted to merge with the road. His airbags were deployed, and they smashed him in the face. For a full minute, his vision was blocked, and when he was finally able to see past the airbags, he gasped. Four cars were rushing towards him.
“Only one thing to do,” Todd muttered. He swallowed the blood in his mouth, gritted his teeth, and drove the car onto the sidewalk. Luckily, there were very few people on the sidewalk, and they were able to get safely out of the way.
The cars were able to fall in line behind him. But at least I am safe from the bulldozer – he thought. Furthermore, for as long as he was on the sidewalk, no one could try to T-bone him.
As Todd sped along, many things were destroyed. This included a fire hydrant, and as it was torn from the ground, high-pressure water sprayed directly into the street.
By the time Todd appeared on the road again, Rush Hour was in full swing as people rushed to their places of employment. Thus, the killers were forced to give up their chase, and he was finally able to go to school. When he arrived, though, he was stopped by the school’s security guard.
Todd ignored the guard, parked what was left of his car on the side of the road, and took out his mobile phone to make a long-distance call to his parents. The evil Asian monk had attempted to have him assassinated, and he was worried that he would go after his parents next.
His father answered right away, and after exchanging pleasantries, Todd told him everything that had happened, adding: “I am worried about your safety. Are you taking every precaution that you can?”
Aaron was distressed by the worried tone in his son’s voice. He said, "Todd, come to Europe. We are safe here, and you could be too. Your mother and I don’t like it that you are putting your life on the line. D.S.G. has too much influence in Edmonton. If they make up their minds to target you, things like this will happen again and again until they kill you.”
Todd sighed and said, "Dad, don't worry. I can handle this. It is you and your mother that I am worried about. Are you sure that you are safe? Do you need any money?" With his carving scam, Todd could make as much money as he needed or wanted. And if he ever felt like he was in any real danger, he could purchase equipment, skill books, elixirs, or whatever else he might need to get out of it.
"There is nothing to worry about here,” Aaron replied. “We are using aliases, and with the help of an old friend, your mother and I were able to get European work visas. With my abilities, we can live anywhere, and the evil Asian monk’s power doesn’t extend to European governments anyway. Your mother and I are safe."
"That's good. Be careful and stay safe. Once I have dealt with the evil Asian monk, I will contact you. Then you can come home. Anyway, I need to get to class. Love you.”
“Love you too, son. Stay safe.”
As Todd terminated the call, he noticed that he and his beat-up car had become the center of attention. “So much for being inconspicuous,” he muttered. He saw Caleb sitting on the steps with a shark-like Cheshire’s grin on his face and he groaned.
"Yo!” Caleb shouted. “What happened to your ride? You had better pray that your insurance is up to date!”
Todd ignored Caleb’s mockery, but as he passed him, he lifted his fist as if he were going to punch him. When Caleb saw that, he flinched and scurried away, and everyone laughed.
Caleb’s face turned red, and once Todd was out of sight, he gathered up a few of his healers to follow Todd around and make fun of him. “It’s too bad about your car,” one of them said. “You could have sold it. Why did you crash it anyway? Don’t you know how to drive?!?!"
"Young master, Todd, is the prince of D.S.G. Unlimited,” another one of them said. “He likes to crash cars when he is bored."
Their words were nasty, but because Todd thought so little of Caleb and his healers, their words had no effect on him.
